Three plots of land are available for purchase, in Hjaalmarch, Falkreath and The Pale; it is possible to build all three if you wish.

Ability to hire staff: Turn a follower into a steward to manage your estate.

Boo that I can't have a house in the two holds I wanted: The Rift and The Reach. Oh well, I'm just happy and excited to get to build a house!

And hooray about using followers as stewards. I wonder if that means they will have new dialogue.

I'm gonna extract the three Orc followers from Largashbur - they seem to have a problem staying alive thanks to giant attacks that seem to occur even after completing The Cursed Tribe. I'll either make them Blades or my Stewards - Blades more likely, as if my estates are gonna be under attack I think I might want to hire invincible followers like Mjoll the Lioness and Derkeethus as my stewards. No normal NPCs will be dying on my watch that aren't required to die in a quest.

^ Ugor hasn't lived in any of my playthroughs. Even if I make a mad dash to Largashbur, the giant has already gotten her, every time.

Orcs make pretty good companions in my opinion all around, every one ive ever had were really fun to travel with.

^ I've used Ghorbash the Iron Hand and Borgakh the Steel Heart quite a bit, and I love them both. It would be difficult to pick a favorite follower, but they're right up there with Belrand, Eola, Serana, and Jenassa, for me.

I keep going back to Belrand; I just can't help myself. His cave/crypt/dungeon dialogue is fantastic. Maybe not as funny as Serana saying, "I wonder if the Draugr are as gullible as they were when I was a girl", but still good.

I knew Mjoll was a tank, but Derkeethus? Really? I might have to try him out. I was thinking someone said he only used a pickaxe, so I never gave him a chance.

The followers I've tried never seem to talk much. Or they just have those few standard lines. It was rare for J'zargo to open his mouth.

I recently had Annekke Crag-Jumper with me. She is a good archer. Has the same voice as Lydia, but rarely says something.

^ I took Annekke Crag-Jumper out once, and didn't like her attitude when we were trespassing. That particular character was very much into larceny and murder, so apparently she didn't approve.

Belrand isn't a chatty Kathy like Mjoll or Serana, but he does add some cool statements about bandits, and leaving a few coins for the dead in crypts, etc. It's not a huge amount of dialogue, but just enough for you to notice and listen to what he's saying. Most of his dialogue seems to be in Nordic ruins. On top of that, he's a spellsword, so he's really versatile.

You'd think J'Zargo would be very much into trash-talking. Its strange that he doesn't speak much. I haven't really used him, but once or twice, and briefly. My experience with him was him more or less hiding in a corner, cowering. I was not impressed. I didn't realize until later that I should have kept him around for a while, to allow him to level, but ditched him instead.

I'm actually a bit worried about giants attacking my homes - they are outrageously overpowered and can kill most NPCs in a single blow. I don't wanna arrive at my house and find everyone in my house has been squashed by a giant's club. I'll be keeping a very close eye on all of my homes to make sure they don't become the next Largashbur.

Well then, I hope Aela will use the dragonscale gear I gave to her whenever she goes into combat. It's a bit worrisome that I never see her wearing it when she's not following me.

I'm assuming that Giants won't actually enter your house, where I imagine your steward/wife/followers will be.

I doubt they'd even fit through the door.  They'll probably  just be like the vampires.  You get to your home one night and poof, there they are, by your porch, waiting for you.

I don't know if any of the NPCs might travel outside during certain times of day or not - I do know carriage drivers at least will be located outside, so it's just something to keep in mind. I imagine giants will be interested in your livestock more than anything though, if the trailer is any indication.

Speaking of tanked-up followers, has anyone else added on UFO (Ultimate Followers Overhaul)?  I am a total fan.  I had know about it for quite some time, but had been straddling the fence about adding it on. 

Not only can you see the stats of anyone you add-on as a follower, you can have them train-up to you're level.  You can set them as essential or killable, and you can hire on as many followers as you want.  You can adjust several other items of followership as well.  Overall it's just a fantastic overall improvement to the follower system. 

I've been using it for about 2 weeks now, and have had zero issues.  If you hire on multiple followers like Mjoll, Lydia and Farkas, I definitely recommend setting the difficulty level to Master, to give you some semblance of balance (if you worry about such things), because a level 57 Dova with 3 or 4 levelled followers is, needless to say, quite the juggernaut.  UFO also works with modded-on followers as well. 

Everything about each follower is accessible through the dialogue menu...oh, and you can issue mass commands to all followers in combat (accessible through the Magic menu which can be hotkeyed like shouts).

I just discovered a new area in Dawnguard. Redwater Den or some such. It's awesome .It's a Skooma front.  You walk in and the Guard says: aah, "a new customer", and invites you to go down..

Can someone share their reasons for playing an Imperial or an Orc? I'd like to use an Orc or an Imperial one day but I never find a reason to use either of the two races.

Imperial? I'm with you on that one. I can't find a reason to play one.

But an Orc. That one's simple, both from a gameplay perspective and a roleplay perspective. Orcs are, hands down, the best warriors in the game due to their racial bonusses and their special ability. Roleplaywise, they get all the special dialogue at the 5 or 6 Orc settlements.

I have a couple of Imperials, and a couple of Orcs, but the Imperials are...meh. I mean, looks-wise, they could almost pass as a Nord or Breton, but they have no racial resistances, which makes them kinda worthless to me. So what, you make money easier? Once you reach level 20 or so, you have more cash than you could possibly spend, without that ability.

Orcs, on the other hand...they shouldn't need an explanation, for they are simply awesome. If you're planning a warrior of any kind, they are hands-down the toughest of the bunch. And they are super fun to play.

My highest-level character is a Breton, followed closely by one of my Orcs. Neither of my Imperials got past level 20, iirc.
