I need game suggestions to hold me over. Im almost done The Shivering Isles and I want a decent, older game to hold me over. Also, not an rpg. The choices......(drumroll)

-Borderlands
-Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
-Darksiders
-Bayonetta
-Ninja Gaiden 2

Any other suggestions welcome :)

I'd say Ninja Gaiden 2 is the best game on your list. I enjoyed the hell out of it despite it occassionally being a bit cheap with your deaths. I liked the challenge and became a fiend slicing master by the end.

Ooohh look at the clouds in that pic! More mountains!

Speaking of Leveling up that leads me to a few other questions.

1. How do you level up in the game? I noticed while playing through that i would see something on screen mention for example your spellcraft has went up or something like that there. Is it done automaticly?

The following activities increase your skills, and when your major skills have increased a certain amount, then your character level increases the next time you sleep.

getting hit while wearing heavy armor -> Heavy Armor

getting hit while wearing light armor -> Light Armor

blocking attacks with shield or otherwise -> Block

Casting spells -> Improves the magic skill associated with that spell

Picking locks -> Security

Successfully sneaking -> Sneak

Making potions or poisons -> Alchemy

Selling items to merchants -> Mercantile

Using the persuasion minigame -> Speechcraft

Attacking enemies with swords, daggers, etc. -> Blade

Attacking enemies with maces or axes -> Blunt

Atttacking enemies with bow -> Archery

Attacking enemies with fist -> Hand to Hand

Also there are trainers and masters of each skill who you can pay to teach you these skills.

Do you have to sleep in the game? Or is the Pc required to sleep?

Only when you are ready to level up. Also there are a couple of quests that get triggered when you sleep after doing something specific.

Personally, I like to use some mods that require the PC to eat, sleep and drink or suffer penalties, kind of like New Vegas hardcore mode. But this is only from mods, not the vanilla version of the game.

Naughty- now you and others said not to worry to much for now about the main quest which has to do with the amulet the Emperor gave to me just before he was killed and to take my time and explore around and walk everywhere and do some exploring of the lands. Now if I go into a gave or some other place and clean the place out. If it's part of a quest for which I've yet to obtain from someone will the quest be broken?

Quest givers are essential (they just go unconscious), so it's not possible to kill them until their quest is over, for the most part.

It's possible to clear out a particular dungeon involved in a quest, but that doesn't break the quest. (Also keep in mind there are something like 200 different dungeons in Oblivion.)

Also will any merchant buy my crap for which I've picked up so far? Need to unload a bunch of stuff to make room for more stuff to make more gold. I think I"ve only got a 150 max. Is there any way to increase what you're allowed to carry?

increasing your Blade, Blunt or Hand to Hand skills gives you a chance to increase your Strength when you level up next time.

you can buy a feather spell from someone at the mage's guild. later when you are a bit higher level, you will be able to enchant clothing or jewelry with a permanent feather effect (or even fortify strength effect).

There are lots of merchants, but each one has a limited amount of gold to buy things. I felt that the mod "Enhanced Economy" improved the experience dealing with merchants. (it makes the prices slightly different in different towns, based on local resources, etc.)

Sympathy4saren- Ok I understand now that the scrolls are one time casts. Are they used the same way for which regular spells are used? Another words selecting the scroll and and using the "C" button to cast it?

Now the Idea of a house sounds cool especially since you can store things in the house as well. That will sure come in handy. I like the robe as well.

As for class I'm running a Female; Benton Battlemage with mage as my birth sign. Don't ask me why but it sounded good at the time. Thought about running a custom one but since it's my first time I figure I'd go with the battlemage sounded neat. Of course was thinking I could of done up a Palidin as well.<LOL> But since I'm not to sure of the skills and leveling up procedures yet I figure wait on the custom character.

Speaking of Leveling up that leads me to a few other questions.

Sorry for all the questions folks but will have to admit that so far the game is pretty cool. Would love to get into more but worried about doing something that I shouldn't do right now. So any answers would help me out.

I was trying to remember what triggered after doing somethigs specific and then sleeping, and I couldn't remember. Then......it all came back to me.:P

Like others said, you can raise skills without levelling as a form of laddering your skills before levelling. Instead of getting better exclusively when you level, you can be better statistically in areas as you are at a certain level before moving on up. When its time to level, you will see a semi-circle with an arrow on your gameplay UI and receive a notification you should rest and reflect on what you have learned. You can also get an idea how close you are to levelling by looking at one of your submenus and seeing how close you are. Not exactly, but it gives you a general idea how close you are.

Just a hint, too....I can't remember if somebody said this....but you need to locate places to eventually fast travel there or see them on your main map. On the gameplay UI, on your compass on your right, you will see symbols fairly often. If they haven't been 'found' yet, it will appear shadowy and not colored in. It will tell you though that here is a dungeon or town or inn in that direction nearby. When you find it, itll change in appearance on your compass so you can tell it is discovered and not new. You'll figure it out, if you havent already....just want to give you a heads up about that so you can locate places early on.

There is an awful lot to locate....a few hundred I believe. Hopefully the Battlemage will give you an overall feel for what you can do in Oblivion. You can use whatever weapon you want....plus you have strong magicka. Buy spells in the Imperial City marketplace, from Mage's at a local Mage's Guild charter.

Also....a suggestion. Check out shops in the Imperial City marketplace. I'm not gonna give it all away....but one of the shops have a very powerful staff you can get even very early on. It costs a lot, but if you go looting and selling and save, it isn't impossible to get

The first one looks really menacing... the third one... is what I imagine Barenziah's Khajiit "companion" looked like.

Eh, what human race is good with stealth and archery?

Kajhiit are good for stealth and archery, because there inherent see-in-the-dark powers allow them to spot people hidden in dark places, allowing better stealth kills with a bow.

I know, but I always start RPG to play as me with face that is similar to mine( except DA2 since it would strange to have 2 of me do to Warden).

They do look great, but still really hard to decide.

@KenKenpachi I'm pretty sure Bethaseda tried to put Oblivion on only 1 DVD.
Cause it would cost a lot more to print game in more DVD's.

I'm pretty sure they did, in an open world game 2 disks would totally ruin it, so it's a blessing when they keep it too one disk.

Yes, they had to. At the time Oblivion was released the Xbox 360 could not read dual layer disks.

It was so bad that they had to delete a lot of content. Emil Pagliarulo was pissed because he created unique Arenas for every city (including the city of Sutch), with quests, NPCs and lots of voiced dialogue.

In the end, they had to delete the city of Sutch (turned it into a dungeon), and all the Arenas except Imperial City.

That's a shame. Oblivion could have been an even much better game :(  I mean they were about to bring back the "Arena" concept that was dropped for ES 1: Arena. And wasn't the 360 the leading platform for Oblivion?

Wow.

That's a really sad story.

I sure hope that Bosmer keep their "Common fantasy elf" look.

Also, I found my romance :D Can you make your spouse wear anything you want? Even a maid outfit?
