I did talk to that other boy, in Dawnstar, Alesan. He seemed sweet. He would probably have been a better choice than Blaise.

Sofie however is very sweet, I've often get thank you's from her and she spends the most time around others, she often remarks on wanting to be a bard, and often you can hear her humming around the house. Funny enough I have yet to see her once use the dagger I gave her.
Both are however well mannerd and have yet to ask me for a present.

Who am I kidding? More than one! Bad husband, bad kid. My Khajiit needs a drink.
I make bad choices, so you don't have to. I should trademark that.

Both of the two girls are respectful. Lucia however seems to be a bit of a loner and often pratices with her dagger in the kids room on the training dummy (pretty good at it I might add) but she is friendly and will play with Sofie and me when we ask her. She also seems to like baking. Overall nice but I would not want to put her with a difficult kid, just a funny feeling in terms of my observations.

Very good. The Dovahkiin will train her to be a fine warrior, and perhaps she and her pops will raid dungeons together someday - and the bard I hire for my home can double as a music teacher for Sofie.
Unfortunately, I'm a bit put off by the number of glitches I'm hearing about, so I'm gonna postpone another playthrough for a while until more details come out on both the DLC and the bugs it has.

Proud Parent: Adopt a child
Landowner: Buy a plot of land
Architect: Build three wings on a house
Land Baron: Buy three plots of land
Master Architect: Build three houses
I don't have the vampire or werewolf achievements from Dawnguard yet, either.

That's hard to say because each race can be flexible and it depends a lot on your taste. Nord is the default and in some respects, a Nord feels like the "real" dovahkiin to me- the main story makes more sense, the civil war has more relevance. But for some people that very "default" feeling is a turn-off and they want something out of the ordinary. Unfortunately there is not a lot of difference in how people react to you based on your race, so I'd pick what appeals to you most on aesthetic and lore, or on gameplay.Maxius Artucus wrote...
Hey, just getting into this game but I've no idea which race to play. Spent a couple days reading up on the web about each one but still indecisive.
Which race are your "main" characters (if you have one) and why?
Gameplay wise, the races break down sort of like this:
Nords- warrior esp 2H, hunter/ranger
Orcs- warrior esp sword and shield
Redguard- same
Imperial- warrior, battlemage
Dunmer- spellsword, spell thief
Argonian- same
Bosmer- thief, hunter/ranger
Khajiit- thief, assassin, warrior
Altmer- pure mage
Breton- same
But you can really do anything with any race. My main character is a Nord battlemage. I also played a Nord thief. Some people like to play an orc shaman or a Breton tribal-type battlemage. The only thing I'd say for sure is that playing a pure spellcaster as anything but an Altmer is difficult. It's difficult enough even as an Altmer. Not impossible, but for a new player probably not ideal.

Glitches? What glitches? They only affect 2/3 houses!greengoron89 wrote...

I didn't have any problems until I started building wings off the main hall. If you want to avoid those house bugs, you could just build the entry and main hall, and wait until you have Heljarchen Hall to build the whole thing. Even without the wings the house is quite sizeable and serviceable with those two pieces.
One thing that's cool is that each house has the standard outside fare (animal pen, garden, stable, etc.), and a unique item: Lakeview Manor has an aviary, Winstad Manor has a fish hatchery, and Heljarchen Hall has a mill.
The fish hatchery is nice, especially if you're into Alchemy, in that you could stock it with whatever fish you want (you actually have to "Give Gift" to get it started, similar to how you plant a garden. I had the hatchery for quite a while before even looking at it, to figure that out. I was trying to avoid the three Horkers that had taken up residence by it.
The aviary and mill? Well, let's just say that I keep wanting to set the aviary aflame each time I see it. Heh.

I'm the Nostalgia player I remember it so you don't have to.
Its strange how I end up all the way up at Dawnstar right after starting a new game. One of the very first dungeons I do on my newest playthrough is clear a huge Dwemer ruin that I think is tied to some quest haha. It was great fun though a new character taking on Dwemer machines and Falmer! Loved every minute in there.

One of my characters is an Imperial warrior, who I roleplay as having a strong Akavari ancestry, which in turn makes the Blades, dragons, and the Empire more personal for the character.
My other character is a Redguard thief, who occupies a more "outsider" role in Skyrim, as well as being more "grey" in regards to morality.
While the various racial traits certainly help during the beginning of the game, the crafting in Skyrim can compensate for many of the racial traits and abilities as you progress, so I personally wouldn't worry too much about the racial, gameplay differences.

I bet that was fun, and Dwemer ruins are always a good place to get soul gems and smithing supplies. I'm not sure I would go into one right after starting a new game, so bravo for having the guts! Some are worse than others, but still.
I generally prefer fighting Dwemer machinery to Falmer. I think it's because where there's Falmer, there's usually Chaurus. Click-click-click-click-click. Those things scare the bejesus out of me, especially now, with the Chaurus Hunters from the Dawnguard DLC. If I see their pods, I usually make a point of tossing a fireball their way.
It's still kind of trippy seeing Female Falmer.

Even though I have a character of every race right now.
As for what races give the best start to the main archtypes:
Thief: Khajiit hands down, with Bosmer not far behind.
Warrior: Nord, Orc, and Redguard
Mage: Breton and Altmer
Dunmer and Imperials can mix and match pretty well.

I did have a Nord for a little bit but eh.
Now I'm playing a Khajiit thief / archer / duel wielder.... Getting very much into the roleplaying. Roleplayed how he developed magic and everything.

I haven't tried an Altmer 2-handed Warrior yet...I just wish I liked playing them more. Maybe I'll make a male version, to see if that makes a difference. They're just so ugly, waa.

So...back to Hearthfire. Do any of you guys know if you can put ALL of the shrines in the basement, or is there a limit to how many you can put on the shrine altar?
OMG, I built the trophy room last night. It's seriously worth considering as a wing option. If you use a Dragon Skull on one of the large trophy bases, it's wicked awesome. I put that on the one that's right inside the doors, so it's the first thing you see.
I also did a bear, a frost troll (the one that looks like it's attacking, not the one chewing on the bone), a spriggan, and a slaughterfish. I'm still debating what to do on the remaining bases. Maybe a draugr and a skeleton? And....something else? I think I have 2 of the smaller ones, and one of the large ones left.
My adopted kids should be suitably terrified walking into that room.

I wouldn't think in terms of which race is supposed to do what. You can excel at everything in Skyrim no matter which race you pick. I personally enjoy this more than the usual fantasy RPG stereotypes like the dwarven warrior, the elven ranger and the human paladin.
