If you use stews for stamina, it is almost overpowered because 1 stamina per second= infinite power attacks for 10 or 12 minutes. Same principle with Elsweyr Fondue for mages.xiiFezz wrote...
I was just thinking why New Vegas had hardcore but Skyrim doesn't. I mean in Skyrim it would add more to the game if you had to eat/sleep/drink because right now.. theres no real reason for food because it only adds 5-10 health unless you use a cooking pot. I dont know i think Hardcore skyrim would be cool.
I wouldn't mind a hardcore toggle, it was fun in NV though I always ended up disabling it because it gets to be a chore.

Me though, I'm not gonna let that happen. Not to me. I just learned the console command to show all the map locations:
tmm 1,0,0
Very useful. Managed to discover a ship way up north that had, somehow, totally eluded my last...oh....10 playthroughs. lol

I actually prefer it to be left as optional. Currently, I eat for RP reasons; different foods for varied PC's. My Orcs tend towards high protein meals, while my High Elf remained a veggie lover. But all tend towards the sweets as snacks (love to steal a few while stealthing the Thalmor party).
If I were forced to eat, craft, sleep, etc, then I would be looking for a mod to disable it, or never try Hardcore rules. In a solo game, have nothing to prove to anyone save myself.
And the Lost Vale is my fave quest from the Dawnguard; still have yet to see it all, or collect everything that is available. Running a close second is Deceiving the Herd as a vampire; tends to require a bit more planning.

I wasn't a fan of that mode to be honest. All it did was make ammo have weight and eating and drinking wasn't that big of deal. I roleplay the eating and sleeping. Everything else... well these games have way too many loot to add to the weight.

There are... quite a few new caves/dungeons, and completely unadvertised quests in Dawnguard. Really easy to miss. I imagine it'll be one of those things where a year from now we'll accidently stumble on something we haven't seen, then we'll come here asking about it, and someone else will say: "That's a dawnguard cave... surprized you haven't discovered it yet!"
Me though, I'm not gonna let that happen. Not to me. I just learned the console command to show all the map locations:

UGH it sounds like you hate exploration and all secrets must be known NOW so everything will be done and over with in a week.

And lets employ some perspective. I pulled my first Skyrim all nighter on November 11, 2011. It's been a little more than a week
Moral of the story: if you're a completionist, Skyrim will swallow you whole.

No no, there's nothing I love more in an RPG than exploration. The problem is that I love exploration so much that the very notion that I might have missed something eventually eats away at me as the playthroughs go by.

I thought I was a completionist, too. Well, until I discovered that I was still finding new material in both DAO and Skyrim after all these invested hours.
And the reason I will not use that kind of reveal is that I enjoy the rush of discovery, but then I use a walkthrough to avoid leaving unique treasure behind.

Definitely the best quest in Dawnguard, at least imho. It's cool, because you get to revisit some Dwemer ruins you probably wondered about ("what was this for?"), and see a couple of new ones. Zephyr is worth the price of admission in itself, if you're into Archery.
Regarding the Vampire Lord side, do any of you guys know if you can ever go speak to the other side, or do they just continue attacking you ad nauseum? Edit: ***spoilery*** What I'm asking is: after you've completed the VL side, by killing you-know-who, can you make nice with the Dawnguard, so they leave you alone? Those crossbow bolts hurt!

I can confirm that a follower can become your steward. Ghorbash the Iron Hand volunteered when I was about halfway done building Heljarchen Hall. (I'm only doing the one in the Pale, since the other two are bugged. Badly).
In another run, I tried with Jenassa. The option literally never came up, and I even tried talking to her occasionally. I guess she didn't want to be my steward.
Then I also tried with Mjoll the Lionness. She never brought it up, either. She just kept saying she was itching for a fight. Oh, Mjoll. I was thinking that being a "Lionness" and all, that she might be interested in babysitting, but I guess not. (She also doesn't seem interested in interacting with kids, either).
Then I tried with Borgakh the Steel Heart. Same story. No steward option.
Has anyone else had luck with Jenassa, Mjoll, or Borgakh? Are we only able to make male followers into stewards? I sincerely hope that is not the case. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with your Thane status in the hold you're building in? Can you have both a steward AND jarl-given housecarl?
In regard to adoption and family, and all that squishy stuff...My Orc run has been my favorite yet. I was trying to get Borgakh to be steward, but as I mentioned, that didn't happen. Anyway, my Orc was married to Ghorbash. He actually seems to like being a parent. In that run, I adopted Runa first, and when I asked him how she was doing, he mentioned that she was going to be a fine warrior some day. Later, Runa said she and her father were going to go fishing. Aww. Then she brought home a pet fox, that follows her around like a puppy. Too cute for words.

Oh Which houses are bugged I haven't had a chance to play through on hearthfire and I don't want to end up buying a bugged house that will screw up the game and then force me to re-load.

Lakeview Manor (Falkreath) and Winstad Manor (Morthal) are both terribly bugged. I built the one in Falkreath first, and didn't have any trouble until I started building wings onto the main hall. Maybe that's the key - keep it small? The bugs come in the form of a hard lockup, and always require a reboot.
Sadly, there are only 3 new houses to build, so your choices are pretty limited. Although I believe you can also add bedrooms on to Breezehome in Whiterun, if that interests you.

I don't think all followers are an option - I tried to get J'Zargo as a steward before Marcurio (I wanted a mage, didn't want any filthy warriors or rogues mucking up my library), but the option never came up. I dragged him to my house, gave him the tour, nothing.
Perhaps it's just as well, J'Zargo may have burned my house down.
Edit: I've still only had one freeze in the Falkreath house, but it was a nasty one. No problems as of yet with the Morthal house.

OMG, I finally realized you could turn the "small house" portion of the house into an actual entryway. I kept wondering why you'd want to walk around a firepit and bed every time you walked through there. /facepalm
I felt terrible hunting all of those elk/deer, to just mount their heads on the walls, but they really did make the place look better. They make such an awful sound when they die, though!

I noticed that it takes about a week of game time for all of the furnishings to show up. They kind of trickle in, one item at a time, until finally, everything is there. Which house were you having a problem in? Maybe it's a shady steward. Heh.Char's Revenge wrote...
I've had zero problems with the houses, now furnishings from my stewards, thats another issue.
Oh, no! I'm sorry, Druss! Don't be afraid! Even if you just build the one house, it's totally worth it, imho.Druss99 wrote...
I was just about to download Hearthfire but Happy Daiz has terrified me. Can the houses be rented out to acquire more gold to build more houses? Oh god I'm addicted already...
I'm not sure if it's my own completionist problem that's exascerbating the house bugs or what. I've been adding every single decoration, which probably adds to load time.
I also tend to be a bit ADD, and impatient, so...maybe my running around the house at full speed doesn't help things. Maybe if you take your time, and let things load after area transitions, it will help. It's usually right after going into the cellar, or through the main hall, when things have locked up for me (in Lakeview and Winstad). I did notice that going into the house from the second floor door of the armory, or bedrooms, did seem to help.
I forgot, I did also try Kharjo, with no success. If you had J'Zargo, small things that fit into pockets would have gone missing.Shepenwepet wrote...

OMG, Eola can be a Steward! And Belrand!
No J'Zargo, Erandur, Jenassa, Aranea, Borgakh, Mjoll, Kharjo, etc. I seem to have a knack for picking the opposite of what I should be.
Interesting...all of the Dawnguard followers can be made into Stewards. Well, except Serana. And the Dawnguard/Volkihar dogs may be able to be used as pets? The site is missing data on that, but I'm crossing my fingers.

I will just have Lydia become the steward since my main is married to her.
Shame that you cant build a castle or something.
I mean come on how epic would it be to have your own CASTLE.

A castle seems fitting, especially since there's already a creepy vampire one, and Fort Dawnguard seems rather like a proper castle. Yeah, I want a castle, too. With a drawbridge I can use to toss bandits over mountains.

According to the Wikia, you can if you are a Vampire Lord on team Volkihar when finishing the DLC.
