My god.
The flame war goes on.

Seriously people are STILL divided about Stromcloak vs. Empire? God damn who cares?
Then again some people still argue about Bioware choices.

Well it's just one of the more interesting aspects of Skyrim's story. I personally love hearing both sides though cleary the Empire is where it's at. :P

It sure beats all the people complaining how "weak" and "lame" Skyrim is in general.  Half the discussions turn into a Elder Scrolls vs Fallout thread.....

Also it's a WAAYY better debate than Destroy/Control/Synthesis.

The Skyrim Civil War is one of those conflicts where no matter which side wins, everyone loses in the end. It really shouldn't have happened in the first place, and likely wouldn't have had Titus Mede kept his nerve after the Battle of the Red Ring.

Anymore, I find myself just skipping that questline entirely - I don't feel like bothering with it. >_>

Me too. I get far enough in the main quest to do Season Unending, and pretty much just stop there with the civil war. An uneasy truce is about as good as it gets. Plus, it's fun to hear Ulfric call Elenwen a Thalmor...well, you know. Any chance I have to hang out with the Greybeards is a welcome one as well.

More Hearthfire...

Last night, I was out hunting defenseless wild animals, and happened upon an overturned cart. I saw something grey and furry standing by it, which I assumed was a wolf; but upon closer inspection, it was a stray dog. So, I did what anyone with a mansion and lackeys running the homefront would do - I let it follow me home. Something about taking in a stray just seemed like the right thing to do. Now everyone in the house gets their turn to say, "Stupid dog". Glorious. It's a much nicer sound than hearing Sonir "sing".

Then I went to the Soul Cairn, to tell Valerica the coast was clear, and she could return to Tamriel. That was the first time I returned in any of my playthroughs. I mostly went back to get Saint Jiub's locket. I was missing 4 journal pages, and scoured that place looking for the rest (and no wiki cheating until the end). That stupid page #9 took forever for me to find. Anyway, I turned in my 100 soul husks for spells, and was on my way.

So after returning home, I realized something kinda cool. You can give your adopted kids a dagger! I had an Elven dagger of Fear in my inventory that showed up when Runa asked me if I brought her anything. So, being a super good pixel parent, I gave it to her. She replied with, "Wow! Thanks!", and immediately equipped it. Nothing like giving a kid something that makes others fear and run away from them. My job here is done.

Except now I'm curious if we can have TWO dogs...

I think I came upon the only way to deal with Maven:
Just dont do the TG, destroy the DB, then just do nice things in Riften.

Sure she still is around, but all she is, is a weak crime boss in one city.
With the DB or TG going she is just a joke.

Especially if you send Sibbi off on a wild goose chase.

Seriously though its like Ward level BS about how you cant do anything with her.

^ I don't dislike Maven. She's a means to a very profitable end for my Dovahkiin, so I see her as more of a tolerable, necessary evil than a threat. That, and I always join the Thieves Guild, so it makes sense for my characters.

I usually give Riften to the Empire in Season Unending, just to put her in the Jarl's seat. It's rather funny to see her in that chair, and Maul standing watch.

Hey folks, a quick question for anyone with Hearthfire....

Is it possible to adopt children in more than one house? I adopted two kids from the orphanage and they live at the Falkreath homestead, but when other kids run up to me and ask if I can be their mother, their is no choice to say yes. :crying: I modified most of my houses so I could adopt several more children (since I figured the housecarls/stewards could keep an eye on them while I'm out adventuring), but maybe the game only lets you have one "family"? Or is my game bugged? TIA!

Sadly its a two kid limit.

Personally I wish there was a quest line to better help all the kids in Skyrim.
Or at least start a Child Services.

I dont know why I have that urge to "fix" things as I play. Must be the SimCity player in me.

^ I'm still pondering whether we can have more than one dog. I'm going to try that out tonight when I get home...unless anyone knows? That house needs to be a zoo, dang it. A rabbit and one dog are simply not enough. I'm waiting for Runa to bring home a pet troll, to be honest.

BTW, I've been testing a theory I have about what causes bugs in the Falkreath and Morthal houses. My theory is that it's the Cellar, and too many wings...

So, I built and fully decorated Winstad Manor in Morthal, but did not build a Cellar, and only built the Bedroom and Kitchen wings. No third wing. After three full evenings with it, I haven't had a single lock-up. Coincidence?

Edit: Whoa, wait a second. I had bugs in the Falkreath and Morthal houses, which were the same ones listed on uesp's wiki, but now they're saying Falkreath and the Pale? I haven't had any issues in the Pale house. /facepalm

Possible massive system freeze in the Falkreath Hold and The Pale houses, which will continue happening if reloading the autosave created upon entering said homes.
- Removing the workbenches seems to fix this issue.

Now that I see that...I did remove the workbenches, and things are fine. I wonder if I can go back and do that in the other houses, and not have any issues...

You know what would have been awesome?

If in the Soul Cairn they had the souls of people you put in Black Soul gems.
Imagine the guilt trip, or if they attacked you.

I mean my mage would have:
The ENTIRE DB in there.

My Assassin would run across a certain major figure.
Damn that would have been cool.

Aw, only two kids? That's not nearly enough with all the gold and houses I have! I could start my own home for children in need. *sigh* Thanks for the answer, I appreciate it.

@happy I've finished all 3 of my houses now except for a few mounted heads, and everything seems to be working fine in all of them. On the first day of the DLC, I got multiple freezes and had to restart the game over and over when I was still heavily into the building phase. I'm just glad the bugs seem to have slacked off for now.

Also, I love that riding Shadowmere lets me still fast travel everywhere when I'm heavily over-encumbered with building materials. :P

@Bekkael - Yeah, my lock-ups were really bad the first couple of days, but really haven't happened since. Maybe I did remove the worktables, which seems to be the culprit, without realizing I was fixing the problem. I've also been allowing more time for stuff to load, instead of running around at full speed. Heck, if all is well now, I can go back to normal, and move back into the Falkreath house. Woo!

I wish Shadowmere would get into the stable! Instead, he just stands wherever.

Hearthfire is an addiction, now. I've built and completed houses for 4 of my characters, but only have one that has all 3 houses fully furnished. I didn't realize until later that you could convert the Small House into an actual Entryway. /facepalm

@Giggles - I agree! What a brilliant idea. Or even if you didn't have to fight them, if they appeared in spectral form like the other souls, and you could talk to them, it would be cool, too.

You can kill Sibbi with magic or a damaging shout.  However I can see how the Maven and the thieves guild can be irritating to a non thief Dovakiin.

That would be terrible since my necromancer defiled Azura's star and took Aranea's soul as its first victim.

Now I recall...that idea came from a Metal Gear Solid game....

They had an area where spirits of those you killed came after you.
Why? Who knows its a game from Japan.

Their stories never make sense.

HAH!

Anyone wonder what the Thalmor really think about the Dragonborn?
I just got jumped by a hit squad.

Then I just walked towards them as their magic really did squat and I cut them down one by one.
I mean they KNOW who is doing it, but they cant stop it!

My main game seriously screwed them over it seems.
Please Bethesda send on to me a DLC where I can slaughter Thalmor? I will pay good money for that!

Well, I built the Falkreath house in my Orc playthrough last night. Per the uesp wiki, I removed the workbenches as I went (I completed one room at a time, then went to the next). So far, not one single lock-up. Hooray! Can't wait to move the whole gang over to that house. It's strange; there are always dragons attacking there, but they seem to avoid the other two houses.

I never got a note or any dialogue from the Jarl to buy the Falkreath house in my Redguard playthrough. Troubling.

@Giggles - I always want to ask that Khajiit that Elenwen sends to Riften to kill my Dragonborn that very question. Instead, she just tells me to go away, before she gets a sword to the back. Poor kitty should know better.

I almost want to quote some Vin Diesel at them:

"Only three assassins? I'm insulted"
I mean honestly THREE? That is not even a challenge.

Ofc there is.

Killing that old hag in the Orphanage in Riften for DB was a huge help ;)

Kind of breaking current conversation, but my game keeps ****ing freezing my 360. I installed to HDD, keep no more than six total saves, including auto-saves, and just got Dawnguard and Hearthfire. There is a particular point on the road between the Goldun Rock Giant Camp and Whiterun where it is guaranteed to freeze. I figure I can simply fast travel past it, but does anybody know why this happens? It also happened two or three times in the mounains south of Winterhold, when I was trying to get to the Shrine of Azura. I'm guessing some kind of error occurs when trying to load a certain random encounter, or something...

Sadly, that makes things a little hard to troubleshoot. Both Dawnguard and Hearthfire brought some bugs of their own. I haven't had any lockups in those areas that I can recall.

I wouldn't think having six save files is a big deal. I've got over 50 saves, between 16 different characters. Posted Image Although it may depend on the age of your XBox, and the size of the hard drive. Is it close to being full? Have you cleared your XBox system cache lately?

One thing that I've noticed is that sometimes the water animations don't display correctly, but if I give them a few seconds to load, they're fine. They don't lock anything up for me, but I've heard of it happening to others.

Save often.

It's an Xbox 360 S, so it's not too old, and I got about 90GB free. I'm going to save often, but not as often as I did in New Vegas... which was pretty much every minute or two. That game was a ****ing ****. And I don't think I need to clear the cache again with all the space I have.
