Morrowind being ported into the Skyrim engine

Looks good, and probably the only way I'll play Morrowind again.

I think I'd like to try that quest out in full Vampire Lord mode. See how effective the Dawnguard really are against a vampire.

Should be a cakewalk.  Right now I'm working on full Werewolf vs Harkon.  It's my only motivation to complete the perk tree.

I hear good things about New Vegas on the Skyrim Board. Is it really worth checking out? What's good about it?

I hate it when they tell me I gotta use a specific weapon to kill a specific enemy. Harkon ran around the room and I tried to shoot him with the bow over and over, and after several minutes of missing due to his erratic speed and frequent teleportation, I got sick of using Auriel's Bow and tried simply using my Legendary Imperial Sword. Suddenly I was kicking his ass, and realised I only needed to use the bow to break the barrier he puts up over the blood fountain thing... even before the fight I knew it was gonna be a **** to have to use a bow the whole fight, even one as powerful as Auriel's Bow. Good thing it wasn't his only weakness.

You probably shouldn't listen to me, since my experience with Fallout: New Vegas seems to always contradict other people's experiences, but I thought the game was a pain in the ass. The buggiest game I've ever played in my whole life. It froze constantly at almost every transition, quests broke frequently, and both non-essential and essential people often vanished from the world without explaination, among other many horrible things. I could hardly stomach doing two playthroughs, even though I wanted four for each main faction. People say The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 3 were buggier, but I personally disagree. Maybe it's because I'm on the 360 and most are on the PC. Patch notes tend to be different for each platform, from what I've seen on The Vault Fallout Wiki. Maybe 360 Skyrim and 360 Fallout 3 were less buggy than PC's, and PC's New Vegas was less buggy than 360's... I wouldn't know thanks to my ****ty computer.

As a game, however, New Vegas was a lot of fun, in the times I could actually play it. There are many interesting perks, a wide variety of weapons that have unique upgrades and ammo types, cool scenery and people, and a really good chance to role-play with what kinds of skills, playstyles, armor, and weapons you use. Usually without getting screwed because you're not using the best possible things. There's a perk that makes Lever-Action weapons more powerful so they'll be viable at higher levels if you want that style, for example.

I'm hoping my experience wasn't the typical one, but from the looks of other people's stories, it probably isn't.

It's just outright fantastic.  A great mix of exploration and solid story telling.  I highly recommend the DLC as well, and if you're on the PC, look for Sawyer's mod to boot.

Play in hardcore mode as well.

Amazing. If they can improve the combat in Morrowind I'm sold.

Well, if they pull this off, I might actually play Morrowind again.
The setting sure was unique and interesting.
And I loved the freedom - to levitate, to explore a huge, vertical city from the main gamemap, to fortify my speed enough that I can cross kilometers in a matter of mere seconds... Almost everything seemed possible. That freedom and atmosphere is what further installments lack. But Skyrim does have an awesome atmosphere.. just not as original, weird and unique, as Morrowind.

Maybe this time I would actually finish Morrowind's main storyline (in most ES games I used to get sidetracked by guild questlines and other miscellanious quests till becoming bored with the game and quitting it). I've only ever finished Skyrim and Oblivion (even though I dislike Oblivion).

But the amount of work to be done to port that huge game is... monumental.

^ Most likely you'll just get Morrowind's world, characters, creatures and quests.  The leveling, abilities etc. would still be Skyrim.  Similar to what they did with Morroblivion

Wouldn't expect it any other way. Unfortunately no flying or fortifying attributes then.

But still a monumental task.

If levitation isn't available, won't that prevent the completion of certain quests? Like becoming Hortator of House Telvanni.

It must be possible to re-create a lot of the Morrowind and Oblivion skills, since I have a mod that adds spell books from those games to Skyrim. Granted things like Slowfall do not work perfectly- sometimes the engine gets confused and I end up falling through the map.

Levitation is avaliable in Skyrim.     In fact, You can levitate better in Skyrim than you can in Morrowind.

You can fly in skyrim too.  Open up the console and type "tcl".  That toggles the free cam.  This lets you freely fly anywhere, even past area transitions  (Yes, you can leave a city without using its gates).  You can even cast spells while flying.

Have you played Fallout 3?  New Vegas takes it to the next level.  Great exploration, great loot, great story, great customization.  Good NPCs/companions, in a fairly reactive environment....oh, and guns!

To prevent thread de-rail, I posted a few items here for you to digest.

I keep dreaming of some sort of a mega port combining Morrowind, Obli, Skyrim( hell, Daggerfall too!!) into one huge big monster.

I really do like being able to upgrade earlier armors and weapons to make them viable at higher levels. My Redguard Bladesman is still using Imperial Armor, Sword, and Shield, and has Smithed them up to Legendary. I remember in Oblivion I had a Redguard Fencer who wore Mythril Armor, because it looked good and suited him, and he got his ass kicked all the time at later levels because I wasn't wearing Glass Armor. Had to bump the difficulty down to make up for it, now with Smithing in Skyrim I don't have to do that.

Yeah that spell needs to come back. Does the mod put it under Alteration?

Well, I'm about 24 hours into a new playthrough and still have not had a single vampire or death hound attack anywhere - this is the second playthrough I've done where there's been no action.

I notice this lack of vampire attacks coincided with Patch 1.7, so I wonder if Bethesda didn't put a tweak in it to reduce the frequency of them, or stop them altogether - if so, I am most disappointed. I enjoyed having to stay on my toes in cities at night and laying the beatdown on vampire goons like a boss.

Also, Hearthfire is pretty awesome - it's nothing fancy, but it's still quite nifty having access to the facilities provided by the new houses, since the areas they're located in are severely lacking in such things as smelters, safe storage, etc.

Maybe vampire attacks increase when you start the Dawnguard quest line? I've had a few but nothing too traumatic.

Just started Dawnguard myself (talked to the captain and go the first quest)  No vampires yet but then again I wasn't expecting any.  lol

So just curious has anyone been having any problems with Skyrim running on a console? I have it for 360 and ever since I downloaded dawnguard and hearthfire my game is freezing about ten minutes after I start it up. Pretty much just trying to kill time until my gaming PC is up and running, but I would like to be able to play the game.

I get freezing during loading screens every now and then, but have otherwise had little trouble with it outside of the usual bugs.

I do notice performance varies wildly from person to person though - I don't know whether it's each individual copy of the game, each individual Xbox, or both which cause more performance issues for some compared to others. I guess Skyrim is just funny like that.
