That's one of the things I hated the most about IGN's list is all the games that have only been out a year or two - don't you think these games need to, you know, actually stand the test of TIME before being declared "best of all time"?
Ah well, you know what they say - you can't spell ignorance without IGN.

The dragons are beautiful and I don't like having to kill so many. The Blades can definitely step off.
I have a similar dilemma in thinking about giants. I don't want to kill them- a lot of them seem to mind their own business and I find them eerie and kind of cool. However you do see quite a few quests where giants are attacking travelers or settlements.
I used to leave the vanilla dragons alone but when they start being cheap, it's on again.

I could be cheap too

Well, it's an easy choice for the Dovahkiin to join the Dawnguard now - he's cleaned out
Off to Fort Dawnguard with you, Dragonborn!

Which mods/addond do you use?
Some of my favorites:
SkyUI & Categorized Favorites Menu
After installing these two mods it is likely most people stop wanting to kill themselves due to Vanilla's nightmare of an inventory. Introduces an inventory that is actually possible to operate. Also favorites menu that isn't bat**** insane. Obviously tis easy to love these mods.
Interactive HUD
Prime example of a clever, tiny mod that does miracles to immersion. Pernament compass on top of screen becomes toggle on/off type of a thing. Lame, annoying pernament crosshair vanishes and only pops up if you are preparing a ranged weapon or spell..or if you are pointing towards a hot spot. I'm not sure if this sounds like a big deal but rest assured, it is! Truly, does miracles to atmosphere.
Total Realism - Basic Needs
Your character gets hungry, thirsty and needs to sleep every once in a while. Makes it possible to fill empty bottles by running water like streams, rivers.
Hypothermia
Those savage blizzards and arctic surroundings should be more than just eye candy! Your character can slowly freeze to death if he fails to dress warmly enough, or doesn't take a moment to dry off his clothes after a swim in cold waters. Introduces craftable tents, camps and campfires to keep the cold away., Goes very well with previously mentioned basic needs. Just in case you wondered how awesome it is to sit in your own small tent in middle of nowhere, roasting the deer you hunted yourself by the campfire whilst hungry, tired and wind hows outside.. the answer is VERY!
Both of the above mods can be configured to be as cruel or forgiving as player wishes.
Also, hypothermia gives option to disable fast travel, which is ofc what a real hero should do!
Winter is coming
Introduces SoIaF inspired cloaks, hoods, and furs to keep the cold away. Fully compatible with Hypothermia.
Some book add on or another
Brings all the books of Morrowing, Oblivon and Daggerfall to random locations in Skyrim.
Interesting NPCs
Adds some 80 or so NPCs around the world. Ones I have encontered so far all have had tons of dialogue. Quality varying from average to slightly more interesting than most official NPCs. Also couple of new quests.
I love content mods like book addon and INPCs; additional lore friendly content that stealthily blends in as part of the overall experience rather than giving you some entirely seperate dungeon or gauntlet to tackle.
Ultimate Follower Overhaul
Gives tons and tons of ways to manipulate and control the actions of your followers. Makes it possible for them to lvl up, should you wish it. Makes it possible to have more than just one follower. Gives followers mounts. Makes your mount smarter. Gives you ability to use your mount as a packhorse. Dress your followers up. Gear them up. Define how they respond in combat..etc.
Pretty sure this is all I have installed atm. Loving my current mod bundle, they make the experience so much more immerisive and fun:)
If you can recommend any good content mods, please do so:)

Agreed. And that's the least of the problems I have with this "all time list"greengoron89 wrote...
I mean no disrespect to Skyrim, but... Skyrim hasn't even been out a year - it has no business being put on a "best of all time" list IMHO.

Other things that make you scratch your head and wonder what they're smoking:
--JRPGs make up the near-majority of the top 20. Was this list compiled in japan? (Must have been. Why else would there only be ONE game in the top 5 that isn't a JRPG? Why else would friggin Chrono Trigger be ranked higher than BOTH Baldurs Gate games?)
--I counted almost 10 MMOs in the top 50 (say what? MMOs are their own genre. Are there not enough actual RPGs to fill out a top 100 list?)
--They ranked Oblivion a whopping 12 spots higher than Morrowind. And for that matter, they ranked Dark Souls (another game that hasn't turned a year old yet) 16 spots higher than Morrowind.
--Pokemon Red/Blue is in the top 10. Planescape Torment is not. LULZ
--There's a Super Mario Game ranked in the top 25. (if you're keeping track at home, The top 25 does not contain Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Morrowind, or any of the Ultima classics. But it does contain a Mario game. LOL)
--Jade Empire made the top 30. Dragon Age Origins and Neverwinter Nights didn't.
-- A Question for you gamers here: if you were compiling a list of the top 100 RPGs, would you rank "Shin Megani Tensei" 20 points higher than Fallout: New Vegas? Because IGN just did.

Very curious to see just what the modding community does to Skyrim in next..say, 3 years.

All that's different is that it was made in Japan. Otherwise, it's as good as any other "true RPG" on that list.

Are they trying to save time? Because it would take 5 minutes to simply remove a few of those indie jrpg games that no one's heard of from the list, then put some shooters in their place, then re-publish the article as "Top 100 video games of all time".

Why not throw Battlefield 3 there while at it? Super Mario 3 has inventory so hay, RPG tag that way too! Plus it comes from Japan so ofc it gets automatic IGN exclusive 2000% boost to coolness.
@ Blaidfiste
Thanks for the suggestion, been wondering about this one. Im worried what it does to my CPU to have ton of ppl fighting. My game runs perfectly smooth...until you get 2 dragons, some 5 or so NPCs killing them.

Chrono Trigger is amazing achievement. Just because it's a jRPG doesn't mean it shouldn't be up there. Higher than Baldur's Gate 2? No but maybe higher than one. I would put Shin Megami higher as long as it was Persona 3 just not 20 slots higher. It's IGN though so you can't assume they even put much though.
Unlike others here I love MMO's. Ultima Online, Dark Age of Camelot, Everquest and World of Warcraft did some amazing things for the genre. Eve Online is also the only big sandbox MMO available now that actually has the numbers to make it better than anything else available. They deserve being on the list though admittingly I didn't look at the list so I'm not sure what MMO's made it there.

Well, here's the thing: ME2 takes the #1 spot on the all time list, but is only #57 on the top RPG list. I personally don't agree with either number, but something's not quite right here. Shouldn't the top ranked games of shooters, action, RPGs, etc. be competing for the top 100? If you're below 50, sorry bub, you're not in the running for best of all time. Even if someone wants to argue the modern games argument, why are many of those modern games ranked above ME2 on the RPG list? Is being a "real RPG" some sort of criteria for being on the RPG list. Oh, there's a subjective disaster looking for a place to happen.
Eh, it just makes it look like they're pulling this stuff out of their collective @sses...which, of course, they are. Hence it's unworthy of any real discussion.

Here's a few I play around with and have found their way onto my permanent list:
Homes/Buildings:
Breezehome Ladder Fix Plus (Probably one of the most needed mods in Skyrim.
Breezehome Extra Storage (Always need more storage in BH, especially if you're just starting out.)
More Chests - Breezehome (Same.)
Mike Hanchos Breezehome Tweaks (More functionality to Breezehome.)
Dovahkiins Warehouse and Bedroom (A palatial estate for your Dragonborn. Huge.)
Dovahkiin Hideout (I've had this on, since I first installed Skyrim. Awesome digs. Trapdoors to all residences.)
Sacrarium (Just a huge open space basement if you want it with trapdoors to all residences.)
Unlimited Bookshelves (No need to place things by hand on shelves anymore. Any item is treated as a book.)
Zeph’s Riften Storage (Categorized storage space in Honeyside.)
Grilli’s Home Riverwood v1.3b (A cgood home in Riverwood. Useful for a new character. Adds some hireable NPCs as well.)
Scenic/Graphic:
Beautiful Riften
Riverwood Enhanced
Pines of Whiterun
Other:
Battlefields of Skyrim (It's a pretty rough ride on higher difficulties!-I have some pics in my Battlefield album if you're interested.)
More NPCs in the Wild (Makes an otherwise uneventful walk in the woods not so uneventful and more interesting. Not all are combat encounters either.)
Mercenaries (Yes, you can build a small army in Skyrim. Fun to play around with.)
Dovahkiin Relaxes Too (Great immersion mod; warm your hands by the fire, read a book, sweep the floor. Just more cool animations for your Dova to relax with during down time.)
Kill Moves – No Blur (Not sure if this is really necessary anymore with the high resolution DL, but I still have it on.)
Fortify Skill Spells (Comes in handy for enchanting and smithing.)
Ultimate Follower Overhaul (Pure awesome to have 4 or 5 of your favorite followers with you.)
Better Females by Bella – Core Files (Make all in-game females look MUCH better.)
Caliente’s Body Mod (CBBE) (Same as above.)
Armor/Weapons:
Nordic Steel Plate Shield Mod (Gives you craftability of Ysgramor's Shield so Jordis and Lydia can have one when they're both following you in UFO.)
Back Shields (Just cool to walk around with in 3rd person. Unfortunately it's coded as an arrow, so make sure you "disarm" it prior to using your bow, or you WILL launch that beautiful Blades shield half way across Skyrim.)
Weapon Variant Expansion (Takes all standard weapons of each category [ebony, dwarven, steel, etc] in game and dramatically expands the variety of each.)
Bandolier – Bags and Pouches (Another cool [and useful] character look improvement mod. Get a carry bonus as you craft them.)
Skyforge Steel Plate Armor (I like Steel plate, and wanted better stats for it. This answered the mail.)
Craftable Blades Armor and Sword with Perk Fix (I also like Blades armor, but hated the pathetic stats. This fixed it.)
Open Face Helmets Compilation (Replacer) (Like that ebony helm, but want to see your character's face? This is the mod for it.)

No point in wasting space with those mods then. What about high res textures and lighting mods? I've seen a lot of those on Nexus but I haven't really found one that I liked. Besides doesn't someone have an all in one mod for that stuff? I don't want to download textures for every single part of the game if there's a mod that does all of that.
