Guys I sometimes have a lagspikes in Skyrim PC version, while my rig should be able to play the game lag-free easily. I already downloaded an FPS limiter to limit the FPS to 30 max. This helped somewhat but I still have an occasional random lag spike for no reason whatsoever.

Does anyone of you know what might cause these rare lag spikes and what I can do about it?

My rig:

Intel Core i7 2,92Ghz
ATI Radeon HD 5750 with 1GB VRAM
8GB DDR3 RAM @ 1333Mhz
2TB HDD @ 7200RPM

It's not the best machine, but it should be able to play Skyrim on "High" on 1920x1080 with AA set to 4x and AF to 8x. Most of the time I get a solid 30FPS (40FPS to 50FPS without the FPS limiter).

I had the same issue for a while.  I fixed it by just updating my graphics card driver.  I use a Nvidia card, though. Posted Image  You can also try to turn off the V sync, by finding your SkyrimPrefs.ini file and adding iPresentInterval=0 under the display section.  I think I did that, too.

Yep, Redwater Den was introduced in Dawnguard.

But  the dungeon under pinewatch....  That one was revealed before Skyrim  even came out

Goddammit now I also noticed a few purple textures that do not load correctly. It looks like the normal map is loaded instead of the diffuse map (for the noobs: diffuse = texture, normal = depth and details added to the object). The result is a pink object with red and blue lines.

I don't know how to fix this. It frustrates me greatly and makes me want to return to my good old Xbox. The graphics on the Xbox might not be as good and there aren't any mods on it, but at least the damn thing works!

I just got this spell from the workshop that gives you the ability transform any npc, hostile and other wise, into a follower. It's very useful if your roleplaying as a vampire.Posted Image

Seems I managed to fix this issue with a patch found on Nexus. Thank god for modders who fix the mess that Betheda left behind when they released Skyrim! A loud hooray for them! :wizard:

Anyway, I created Damian Lockheart, a Breton character who's going to be a thief and I already decided a fun goal for myself: I'll keep playing this character until I have 1 million septims, all dragon masks and all 15 Daedric artifacts! To make it harder I'm sort of trying to roleplay, as in buying food and drinks and sleeping once in a while. I just can't think of a good background story for this character.

What could be the motivation behind Damian's goal to aquire an insane amount of 1 million gold, all dragon masks and all 15 daedric artifacts?

LOL, well I'm slower than I knew.

Anyone getting CTD trying to enter Breezehome?  This is new for me and I can't get in there at all, a bummer for my characters who have stuff stashed there.

@Heretic Hanar- yes we had the purple textures for wood, after the high res pack came out.

Indeed, that's what I had too. But this unofficial patch from Nexus seems to fix it, by replacing the purple textures with the original (non-highres) textures. The wood doesn't look as detailed as the rest now, but at least it's not purple. :pinched:

Well, to be honest, I don't see THAT much difference between the original textures and the HD textures anyway, so...

He is cast out nobility (or the bastard son of the Breton king) seeking wealth and power so he can return home and take the throne.
He's an archeologist studying Aedra and Deadra. The money is supposed to fund his research and help build a museum.
He believes that uniting these artifacts will open a portal into the Shivering Isles where he can buy a house made of live sheep.
He has to collect these artifacts and gather the money as ransom for his kidnaped family.

These are just off the top of my head. I'm sure someone else could come up with something more creative.

You know, it took me quite a while to warm-up to Skyrium. But it became my go-to game when I got sick and tired of Mass Effect 3. As far as I'm concerned; I think perhaps Bethseda would do a better job of making Mass Effect 4 than BioWare.

The level of free-roaming in Skyrium is unparralled! Imagine if we could travel anywhere in the Mass Effect Galaxy at anytime like in Skyrium. When I play RPG I tend to prefer to build up my stats and skills by doing Side-Quest before the Main Quest. Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever have I done this more than while playing Skyrium...

I was at Level 43 Redguard Female over 144 hours of gameplay: before obtaining my 1st Dragon Soul. I had no idea that my girl was the Dragonborn :P I became the Archmage of the College of Winterhold and did a whole bunch of other stuff. Exploring. Adventuring and Leveling Up. But I put off doing the quest at Bleak Falls Burrow for some time. So while I was still finding Dragon Speech all over the place. I was living in A World Without Dragons. And that was fine by me ;) My brother chided me abit though.

I couldn't hold off the envitable forever and part of me wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Fighting dragons and using Dragon Shouts. My first battle with a dragon did not dissapoint... and since then I've slain more than twenty. My time playing Skyrium: becoming The Dragonborn reminded me of the 10 year Odyseey of Kal-el/Clark Kent on Smallville. His journey from boy to Man to Superman. He fought his destiny but ultimately embraced it. So did I ^_^

I've installed and uninstalled this game so many times...which takes forever when I have to try to figure out what mods I had, ha ha. Anyway I'm back to being "Pro Skyrim" now that I don't play any MMOs and have no games I'm interested in outside of Diablo 3.

Ahh, to be free of the gaming backlog and really be able to devote a true attempt of immersing myself in Skyrim! I think my problem is that if you can't immerse yourself, it kind of isn't worth playing, but when you RP in your head it really makes a difference.

The difference is HUGE! At least in FullHD. If you don't see it, perhaps you're running a lower resolution, which would make all textures a bit blurry.

Sadly I can't run it, as I run out of memory with the official Pack :( (and it's the best and most complete one, IMVHO). So I have to settle for an ENB shader mod of choice and several community made texture packs.
Well, the game still looks gorgeous...

Just getting into Dawnguard and have been a little surprised as to how much content the DLC actually contains. New companions, locations, armour, weapons and quests lines - I'm having an absolute blast. Here's my character in situ:

I'm currently running Skyrim on 2560x1440 pall, which is even higher than fullHD. ;) And really, the difference is not THAT big. Some textures (the bigger ones) do show a significant improvement with the HD texture pack, such as cave-walls, rocks and  trees. But all of the smaller textures, such as weapons, shields and some of the ground and floor textures still are a big blurrfest if you ask me. Not that I care, I'm just saying you know.

Yeah the game looks pretty sweet. I do notice however that the distant landscape looks pretty low-res and shitty. I never noticed it before on the Xbox360 because the Xbox360 only renders this game at 720p. But on 2560x1440 you can easily see how low-quality the distant landscape really is.

Are there some mods that might clear up the distant landscape and make it look a bit less crappy?

Just wanted to post this. Im sure we know its success but this really sums it up! Skyrim has remained in the UK Top 20 sales chart now for the best part of a year! 46 weeks and counting

See Skyrim did something smart.
It was a good game.

So people say: GO AND GET IT to friends.
Word of mouth matters far more then ads or reviews ever will.

It is also still in Steam's top ten games played, which is pretty amazing a year after release.

For those interested, PC Gamer put out a list of 25 best mods.  I only use UFO, about which I have mixed feelings though it does add very useful functionality to followers, and Immersive Armors which is a must-have.

@ Arcane Warrior:  I think toning down the day-glo green orcs and blue elves is a good thing.

Ta - the sword is Dragonsting from Isilmeriel's excellent LOTR Weapons mod. Looks great in first person mode:

Unless your dovakiin has robotic eyes, you shouldn't be able to see things in ultra high texture HD way way off in the distance.

That said, There's a slider in the settings to help your game better render stuff that's way out on the horizon....  Draw distance, or some such.  But upping it to the max setting will, of course, make you take a performance hit.

Does anyone have a regret with their current PC?
Like a choice or action you took you wish you had not?

I do. It was letting Madanach out.
I really did think he was not all that evil.

Now I realize what a complete dumb **** I was.
I think I am going to restart my main PC soon.

Skip doing the Thieves Guild, or helping Madanach and a few other things.
Build my character right. Might do it before the big DLC comes out.

I kinda regret taking on Destruction magic as a skill. It's slow as sludge to train and horribly underpowered. I expect Incinerate to, umm... incinerate my opponents, not take a sliver of their health away. I can take three to four times as much health away with a sneak attack from my crossbow, even more if I coat it with a good poison.
