Be careful people.

Lest we incur the wrath of the mods who come nobly to the defense of their sacred "Artistic Integrity"

I've been trying to get back into Skyrim lately, seeing as I abandoned it due to the lag problem the PS3 version has.

It's still got it, even with all the patches downloaded for me.

Shame. I was hoping to eventually finish the main quest and do some of the more interesting side quests -- like the one with the Dragon Masks. I think I've got all of them.

I still haven't collected all of the masks. I might have to get around to doing that in the wake of Dragonborn, though for now I am taking a small hiatus from Skyrim.

Rumor from the Bethesda forums is that the exclusive contract for Skyrim was for 2 DLCs and that no DLC would be announced for other platforms for a year.  This is actually believable as both Dawnguard and Hearthfire weren't really announced at all for PC.  They just sorta showed up one day on Steam.

Since they made the announcement for Dragonborn before the 1 year period, they aren't allowed to say that it is coming out for other platforms YET.  In short, Bethesda is likely doing everything in their power to cover their butts to make sure that they aren't in breach of contract.

That means hopefully that all platforms will be getting the DLC all at the same time (with PS3 players maybe getting a bundle price as an apology for the delays)

Well I mean, they did have the trailer on Monday.  I think they were responding to people on the forums and Twitter screaming that they were giving no communication whatsoever for PC and PS3.  I guess they're damned if they say "we don't have anything specific yet" or if they say nothing at all til they do.

I am enjoying Hearthfire a lot more than I thought I would.  Reminds me of the hours I spent trying to get stuff positioned in my Oblivion houses, only to make one wrong move and have everything fly across the room.  Good times.  Telekinesis spell helps sometimes- train Alteration while you redecorate.

One of the things I noticed is that the lighting in the houses is really desaturated.  I've been placing kettles around and dropping torches in them.  The difference is amazing, one torch will really warm up the lighting in the whole room.

Meaning November 11th might be the day we're all free from the tyranny of Microsoft?  Oy vey, Bethesda what did you do to yourselves.

I just think that's 100% wishful thinking. Guesses from the heart and nothing at all of substance. We were told, via official  press release before Skyrim even came out, that  DLC for it  will have  a 1 month xbox exclusivity. And that's all we were ever told.

But somehow, between then and now, the wonderfully creative rumor mill has managed to produce all sorts of numbers for us from thin air. First it's: "just the first two DLCs". Then after that was disproved with DLC #3 being announced as an xbox exclusive (oops!) we suddenly have a new claim:  The exclusivity deal is  "just for one year!", along with a bonus claim: PS3 Users will get a financially-based Apology in the form of a discounted Bundle pack.

LOL am I the only one here that's seeing the nonsense in all of this?  Especially since we're dealing with Bethesda, a company that   doesn't even bother to do proper reveals of their DLCs in the first place,  yet, we're supposed to believe that they will publically  share  high level,  specific  contractual details  they have with Microsoft?  Really?

C'mon people.

I really don't understand these deals between Microsoft and Bethesda. As if anyone would buy Skyrim for the Xbox360 instead of the PC just for that.

I admit, I have Skyrim for the Xbox360, but that's because last year I had a crappy PC. Now I have a master PC and I haven't touched Skyrim for the Xbox360 anymore ever since.

I'm not going to buy the Dragonborn DLC for the Xbox360, as I want to play it on PC. Skyrim on the PC is the superior experience and that's where I want to play the new upcoming Dragonborn DLC, even if that means I have to wait a month longer.

I don't think the deal is meant to sell Skyrim on Xbox, it's Microsoft's dim hope of selling more of their consoles. Stupid. I hope Beth got its money's worth.

Please tell me: how in the world does Microsoft think they'll sell more consoles with this silly deal?

Maybe PS3 users might consider buying an Xbox360, but not because of the 1 month exclusivity, but because the PS3 doesn't get any Skyrim DLC at all (for now).

But really, I don't know anyone crazy enough to buy a new console just to get DLC a month earlier. That's just insane.

Yeah I don't think we're getting Dragonborn until January regardless of what they devs said. Close can mean a number of things, which is the reason I didn't like that tweet, it doesn't give any hard facts. I'd have preferred if they had just said that they will put it out only for xbox for now. For some reason they didn't say that though but I really don't like "deciphering"  what PR talk means especially because it starts to create these rumors.

How? Simple: Word spreads that 360 titles get DLC earlier than the rest, so people are more likely to buy a 360. I mean, why would you buy a PS3 if you'd get your DLC earlier with a 360? I don't think it's meant to make you run out and buy a 360 just because you can't wait for one DLC, but it's more to tip the scales in their favor when someone is deciding between consoles to buy. That's how it works in theory anyway.

I don't pick my platform on that basis. Maybe some people do though.

All in all, I am happy that I bought the PC version even though I own a 360 as well. I don't mean to start a religious war with this, just saying that the PC version doesn't somehow suck just because you can't get the DLC right away.

As Addai mentioned, it's not to pit PC platform  against the  Xbox   (as that wouldn't make sense for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that Microsoft actually benefits greatly from PC sales....  Windows and all that).

No, It's designed to  pit Xbox against its actual competator:  Playstation 3.  And considering the unbelievable shafting the PS3 has already gotten from Bethesda  (they're 3 patches behind and haven't gotten ANY DLC,  this Xbox Exclusivity deal  is  simply  an example of Microsoft's absolute ruthlessness.    But you can't deny that it works.   The better question is:  Who the hell with a choice would ever buy a PS3 to play skyrim?

The reason why people would buy Skyrim for the Xbox360 and not for the PS3 is not because of the 1 month exclusivity deal, it's because everything else you just said.

The PS3 version of Skyrim is laggy, it's buggy and it's crap. It also doesn't have any DLC yet. Those are the reasons why I would never buy the PS3 version but the Xbox360 version instead. I don't give a crap about the 1 month exclusivity.

Why wouldn't Microsoft make the Skyrim DLC exclusive for both Xbox360 and PC? Or why wouldn't Microsoft just stop with the 1 month exclusivity, considering the fact that the PS3 is already screwed with not having the DLC at all?

Because  if it's being offered to   2 different platforms at the same time, then  you could no longer call it  "exclusive"?  lol

Don't know.

But like you say...  Who really cares?   I'd only ever be truly concerned if "exclusive"  here meant permanently exclusive... as in ONLY Xbox gets this DLC.  Because that would suck ass.  But since  we PC users  end up getting this DLC just a month later.  I'm totally fine.  After all,  In the end, we're  the real  lucky ones.  As even aside from the fact that the PC version offers better graphics and performance,  we've gotten  something *actually* exclusive:  The Creation Kit.

^ I would also add: Oblivion on PS3. That's why I bought Skyrim on XBox. I mean, I knew Bethesda games were buggy, but Oblivion was an absolute mess on PS3 (well, so was Fallout 3, tbh). I was averaging about one crash or lock-up an hour, any time I played, and it couldn't be blamed on my PS3 being old, or overheating. I believe it was attributed to the size of the save files, which were admittedly ridiculous.

@Heretic - please stop with the 360 bashing. It kinda makes you look like a tool.

Sorry, I had to say it. You've been relentless in the past couple of pages. We get it; you're excited to have "transcended" mortal man. Move on.

Bethesda should've never bothered with the PS3 in the first place tbh - now both they and PS3 players are suffering the consequences and consuming valuable time and resources trying put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

That was similar to my experience with Oblivion on PC, it would crash at least every couple of hours, sometimes more often, but I enjoyed the game so much that I put up with it. If I understand correctly, Oblivion has an issue for PC where it crashes every time the memory usage exceeds somewhere around 2GB or so.

Skyrim, on the other hand has been fantastically stable, no crashes at all since November of last year.

I would not be surprised if Microsoft said: NO DLC on the PS3.

If Bethesda actually did that I would be beyond pissed off.

Agreed. In 1000+ hours of Skyrim on XBox, up until Hearthfire, I had right around 10 lock-ups total. Hearthfire added some weird stuff, but most of it was easily remedied if you were willing to alter your playstyle a little.

I loved Oblivion. I was kind of a n00b when I first started playing it, so I was terrified of Oblivion gates, and all that lurked within (and around) them. I used to make my husband play those areas for me. Hehe. The inventory and level-up systems pretty much blew, but I loved the story. I loved the different areas, and I loved the guilds. It was so different than anything else I'd ever played before, and I was hooked.

Now I'm debating on which of my characters to play in the new DLC...one of my Orcs? A Breton? Maybe dust the cobwebs off my Argonian? I just don't know! Or do I create an entirely new character?

From what I've seen from people who can program, the PS3 and the in-house engine that Bethesda uses for its games don't mix very well. Josh Sawyer said as much about Fallout NV, admitting they knew about the problems the PS3 version would have but could not have fixed them even if they had had more time, which they didn't.

Microsoft doesn't care about PC gaming- they don't get enough of a cut from it- they want everyone on their console. They undermine PC modding however they can. We've said it on this thread before, the DLC exclusives were probably the pound of flesh that Microsoft demanded in exchange for not making a stink about the Creation Kit. They're one of those companies that don't base their marketing on making things people want to buy, rather on manipulation. Bethesda has no choice but to go along with them because Xbox has the most sales. It's a bad situation all around for gamers.

Why do big game companies act like people wont just leave them for being greedy and annoying?

They dont have a monopoly on games...so what is their deal?
