haha. to be fair skyrim doesn't have multiple endings. And I hear either side of the civil war is similarly cut and pasted bioware style

I rarely ever finish the civil war questline. I usually just go the Greybeard-mediated Season Unending route, to call a truce. Another excuse to talk to the coolest dudes in the whole game? I'm in.

Poll:Additional Playable races in Elder Scrolls?

If additional playable races where introduced based on the current lore, which one would you prefer?

Huh why would they do that? Unless there's some kind of extended cut dlc.

Unless we get new companions for future DLC, I imagine people will want to bring the ones from vanilla with them, so having them follow you around without saying anything new and relevant would be quite weird.

And some followers, like the housecarls, desperately need more dialogue. Poor Lydia can't seem to say anything beyond "Yes, my Thane?" and "Sworn to carry your burdens".

Mind you, it doesn't have to be a lot. Just a few lines where she's talking about herself. One of the things I love about Aela, Mjoll and especially Serana is that they actually talk about their life and, thus, help you get to know them better as people.

I think Bethesda was surprised at the response to followers. The devs have said they were taken back by people responding so well to Lydia when the housecarls are as basic as it gets. Meanwhile on tumblr people are talking about building elaborate cairns for her if she dies. And let's not even get into the mods and fanfiction.  Whatever people say about BSN, creeper fandom is everywhere.

I doubt Bethesda will go the Bioware route, and I hope they don't honestly, but I would imagine in the next games they'll have fewer but more fleshed-out companions like Fallout New Vegas.

I voted none because TES already has enough playable races and it's better to keep some of them mysterious and rare.  It would spoil the Dwemer or Falmer to see them subjected to Nexus anime mods.

@Addai:

I really wanted Skyrim to have FONV companions.
Quality over quantity really.

Wandering the wastes was so much fun with Arcade, Boone, Cass, Raul, etc.
I love Serana because she is almost deep like that.

Not just because I love her VO's work.

I'm not sure if they can go Bioware route. Writing relationships and fully fleshed out companions isn't their thing.

But adding a bit more dialogue, even if it's just your companions making a few remarks while travelling with you? I can definitely see that.

Bah, Bioware writing is overrated. Because a dev chooses not to do something doesn't mean they can't. They've said one of their design principles in Skyrim was simplicity, which people who like to bash them interpret as dumbing down. But with a game that has as many complex variables as these huge, open world RPGs, it's not a bad principle to go by.

Serana is a very well-written character, and Bethesda has stepped up their game big time with writing in general in Skyrim.

As for the "Bioware route"... thank the gods they don't go anywhere near that direction. The last thing this series needs are clingy, wish-fulfilling "LIs" who sob like infants and badger your character at every turn.

Disagree with the Bioware conclusions. While the LI storylines may not interest all folks including myself, they seem to appeal to some others. And even w/o the Romance plotlines, I find the companions worthy of having along for the witty banter and actual AI assistance; neither very apparent in Skyrim.

But I do enjoy the world of TES thus far. Though not a lore junkie, I still have unexplored dungeons, ruins, nooks and hidey-holes in a 16 sq mile territory that has lootable flora. Amazing attention to some details, enjoyable mechanics, and plenty of CC freedom makes Skyrim one of the best games I have ever played.

Companions are beasts in Skyrim if leveled and equipped well. The non-leveling bug and the fact that people didn't know what their tag skills were meant some followers were being ill used before we figured it all out. Hopefully that's what they'll concentrate most on improving- AI and interface. The marriage stuff can stay as it is, as far as I'm concerned.

Marriage is just something quick and dirty (uh huh huh huh) Bethesda added, seemingly as an afterthought really. It's more of a novelty, albeit a neat one. Same with adoption tbh.

If they hadn't added it to the game at all though, it wouldn't have hurt my opinion of it.

Since I've adopted Sissel and Runa Fair-Shield...

They get along swimmingly, which was a relief. Yay! So far, no disagreements of any kind. They play and hang out together quite often.

One thing of note is that Sissel has been collecting books. Like...a lot of books. Some of which, I've never seen before. They seem to all be related to magic theory. I knew she was studying magic, but I didn't expect her to acquire books about it, and store them in her chest. I've seen other adopted kids do this, but not to this extent.

This little girl who dreams about Paarthurnax is really making me wonder.

I have talked and talked with Sissel and it never gives me an option to adopt her. Is there anything special you have to do or am I encountering a bug?

Lemkil must be dead - then Sissel and Britte both will be adoptable from Honorhall Orphanage.

Ah, thanks. Can I kill Lemkil and then adopt her?

also,   Is your house adequately built  to house children?  For the vanilla homes, you need to select the option that Hearthfire added  ("change  my enchanting lab into a children's room"  etc) before the adoption dialogue option even shows up,   and in the Hearthfire-specific homesteads, I *think* you need to create "small beds", but don't quote me on that.

But once you do that stuff, these urchins will seek you out.   I once walked into the Bannered Mare in Whiterun and saw one of them sitting at the bar drinking lol.  And before I could even talk to the bartender, the stupid kid was on me, begging.

@KBomb - You can indeed, as long as you are not caught doing so.

Yep. Had a home at Lakeview Manor and had already adopted Sofie (or Sophie, can't remember how she spelled it.) Lemkil must have been alive at the time. I liked Sissel and will definitely be adopting her next time.

How many kids can you adopt?

Just two. I usually adopt Lucia and Sofie since they're the two that have it the hardest of all the kids in the game. I'd like to adopt Alesan as well, but he does have it slightly easier than the other two tots.

I adopted Lucia and Runa the only thing I wish there was is a divorce option... because I like Lydia more than others but her diolouge is pretty boring plus she is glitched and wont wear any armor unless shes my follower.

Wow, you can change one of the vanilla houses into a kid paradise too?  Where do you do that?

Talk to the Steward and ask to decorate your house - an option should appear for a Children's Bedroom. However, it replaces your Alchemy Lab, so unless you're not a big fan of Alchemy (like me) you might want to skip the bedroom.
