I've just had the itch to play the game, Oblivion, lately, but I can't bring myself to do it.  Repair hammers and a clunky inventory system have kept me from it. Well, and the awful-looking people... I'm so shallow.

Aw, c'mon now, I think my main Oblivion Dunmer can still hold her own in the looks department...

Also, I have a thing for Sean Bean, so talking to Martin Septim was pure voice porn. His speech voice in Oblivion still gives me shivers. I love Skyrim, but I also loved Oblivion. If you overlook some of the minor annoyances, it was still a wonderful game experience, to me.

Also, I can't wait for the new Dragonborn DLC. :o I hope they will eventually give us an expansion as big and meaty as Shivering Isles was.

I just hope the other dragonborn in the DLC appears more than once, maybe get a chance to have a conversation with him.

If I complete the civil war quest line first, will other quest be blocked off?

Do you get special dialogue options with npcs when aligned with factions?

There is one quest in the main questline that is skipped when you have completed the civil war already. A quest to negotiate a peace treaty between the two parties.

I have only done the Stormcloak side so far, and got new dialogue with several NPC's in Whiterun after the battle there. The guards will comment on it too. Other than that I'm not sure. I haven't done much of the main quest with the same char that did the civil war, so I don't know how much comment you will receive there.

Thank you, that's exactly what I wanted to know. =]

Gerdur died in one of my games, too. I reloaded. That is NOT happening. Gerdur is my 2nd choice for ruler of Skyrim.

Was it the fast travel bug?

Is it a bug?  I think it's just designed that if you fast travel there's a chance that a dragon, or vampires with DG, will spawn.

Mess with my property I will kill you.
Mess with the people there I will destroy you.
Go after my kids? Prepare to learn why DRAGONS fear me.

Freaking vampires chasing my kids.
Shame that I was coming home atop Arvak so I rode them down.

Then the last dude I tore his soul out and tossed his gem into the sea when i was working in the College again.

Cruel? Yes. Adequate for dealing with people who attack my kids? Also yes.

Does anyone know of a mod where you can take your follower along for Serana's quests? I've obviously got a conflict with UFO or something, I've dismissed my followers but Serana still talks about "that interloper."

Hmmm.

It seems to me that the challenge in Skyrim has left the province so to speak.
Please let Dragonborn be good I really need something new to kill.

When it comes to an actual quest? No. But there is an side mission I'm aware of, for example. The owner of the potion shop in Solitude ask you to question Aldis about what happened to her daughter (who went to fight on the war). But if you had stormcloak victory, Aldis will disappear, and this side objective cannot be continued.

Maybe murder isn't what you need to fill that hole in your heart after all. Have you tried stopping and picking a flower instead of destroying everything before you?

If I can't one-hit kill everything on Solstheim, I'll just make a bigger sword.

I don't know about mods, but I know a really *easy* exploit that lets you.

Ok, right before you go to the Soul Cairn, when you're in her Momma's lab, the game "removes" her as a follower  (she's scripted to stand by the portal).  At that point, you can exit the lab and go out to the balcony, where fast traveling is an option.  Simply do that.  Fast travel to where your follower is,  pick them up, then fast travel back to the balcony.  Then continue with the quest.  When it's time for you to enter the Soul Cairn, Serana will join the two of you.

A warning though: this *is* an exploit, so use it at your own risk.

Ok, that makes me kind of curious to see what my characters from Oblivion looked like. I've somehow forgotten after all this time. If they're reasonably cute, I'll post photos of them.

This also means that I have to turn on the PS3. The only time that thing gets turned on these days is when one of the cats walks on the remote. Image IPB

Oh, gosh, Oblivion. Such fun I had with that game. Also, yes, the character models were undeniably, ridiculously sexy.
Image IPB

I'm pretty sure the only character model that I didn't instantly have the "Kill it with fire" reaction was Eldamil. I think it's because the hood hides the colossal Altmer forehead.

I feel like diving back into Skyrim today, haven't touched it since Hearthfire.

Erm, that went exactly as expected. First, when I turned on the PS3, I had to do a system update. That took a while.

Then, I put in the Oblivion disc, and got an error message that I needed an additional 5GB of space free to play. *sigh* I deleted Borderlands 1 and Fallout New Vegas (I replayed those on 360), and went on my merry way.

So then I started Oblivion, and went through my 5 save game files. Uh-oh. I apparently cleaned house a little too well, as the one character that I put most of my time into wasn't there. Gone. Poof. So I loaded the other 2 saved games that I had.

And realized that my characters are hideous. Like...tie a bone around their necks, hideous. Image IPB

Skyrim and its DLC is 50% off on the Steam sale today.

Question: Is Dawnguard worth it for $10? Is Hearthfire worth it for $2.50? I haven't looked into Hearthfire that much, but is it more robust than the available mods that let you build houses?

DG for $10 is a steal.  I don't have HF but if you're into building and decoration homes $2.50 seems like a good price.

I think Dawnguard is worth it for $10. I bought it for $20 a few weeks ago (doh should of waited for Black Friday sales). It is pretty fun and longer than I expected. It is one of the better DLCs I've ever purchased for any game. I haven't bought Hearthfire, so I can't comment on it.

Also random question that has been kind of bugging me since I started playing again. Is there any new lore that explains why Redguards have magical starting traits now? Was there an event since Oblivion that made magic not as taboo to their culture as a whole? Because last I knew they hated magic which in tandem with a land dispute is why the went to war against the Bretons for a bit.

I most definitely think that's a steal. You get new weapons, new armor, new spells, new shouts, new areas to explore, lots of missions and it has replay value due to the fact you can choose a different "side". You also get new followers. I believe I spent around twenty-one hours doing all the side missions and the main quest. Serana is a pretty cool followers and she has a surprising amount of banter. You also get new skill trees for the werewolf and Vampire Lord. There is also the quest 'Lost to the Ages', which is an amazing quest line in and of itself.

Hearthfire is totally worth $2.50. You get to purchase land in three different holds and build a house with various types of rooms to choose from, such as an armory, a trophy room, a greenhouse, etc. You can also have your own carriage which takes you to more places than the regular one does. You can also have a stable for your horse and your very own bard. Adopting children is a nice touch, too.

However, I don't have it on PC, so I am not able to get the mods that are available for that platform, which is extensive. Both DLC was well worth the regular price to me and I am thinking of grabbing it for the PC now that it's 50% off.

Hmm reading about that Dragon Aspect shout is interesting.

I wonder if it will allow us to rag doll a Dragon with Unrelenting Force.
Because...that would actually be worth 20 bucks.

I'm at the point where we need to go into the garden at Castle Volkihar.  She won't take me because she says I have an "interloper."

Yo Addai i just noticed your response. Basically if you fast travel to or from Riverwood there's a chance Gerdur will randomly be affected by frenzy, attack, and possibly kill Hod.

So I have a query: Will Dragonborn have a point we will have to meet in the main quest before we can start?

I have on those characters who doesnt roleplay the Dragonborn. I just dont think being a Vampire Dragonborn works in all honesty

No idea, but I would guess at a minimum you probably have to get far enough along in the main quest to learn that you are Dragonborn, meet the Greybeards, and learn Unrelenting Force.

Since it seems this DLC has something to do with dragon priests, perhaps you have to kill a few of those as well.
