Yo Addai i just noticed your response. Basically if you fast travel to or from Riverwood there's a chance Gerdur will randomly be affected by frenzy, attack, and possibly kill Hod.

LOL Marital conflict.

I noticed that a note in Forelhost says that the dragon cult holdouts killed themselves because they expected the dragons to resurrect them when they return.  I'm thinking that was foreshadowing of the Dragonborn DLC.

So I have a query: Will Dragonborn have a point we will have to meet in the main quest before we can start?

I have on those characters who doesnt roleplay the Dragonborn. I just dont think being a Vampire Dragonborn works in all honesty

No idea, but I would guess at a minimum you probably have to get far enough along in the main quest to learn that you are Dragonborn, meet the Greybeards, and learn Unrelenting Force.

Since it seems this DLC has something to do with dragon priests, perhaps you have to kill a few of those as well.

Yeah sounds about right.  Cant escape your destiny.  By the end of the DLC you will know your the Dragonborn for sure anyway!

Plus Dawnguard heavily implied it anyway they would have to be an idiot not to figure it out :P

I'd pretend that she walked in on Hod, and Ralof making passionate love.(Brokeback Riverwood)

I wouldn't be surprised if Miraak told or ordered them to do it, but I love Forelhost as it provided me with a crap load of Ancient Nord armor so their sacrifice didn't go to waste.

Skyrim and its DLC is 50% off on the Steam sale today.

Question: Is Dawnguard worth it for $10? Is Hearthfire worth it for $2.50? I haven't looked into Hearthfire that much, but is it more robust than the available mods that let you build houses?

Dont have Hearthfire so cant comment but Dawnguard is a steal for $10.

Edit: I see I was a great help :wizard:

One factor of Dawnguard that I admire is that the content encourages new Players to explore. The storyline is developed as to motivate folks to travel a wide range of the entire game map. While more experienced Players may not appreciate such a huge trek, it is hardly an impediment, esp when one knows of routes and utilizes Fast Travel of some sort. Well worth the original price, let alone a sale!

They aren't bad, except I don't care for the day-glo blue Dunmer.

I thought my Oblivion characters were pretty good looking- a burly blond Nord and a Dunmer assassin with shaved head.  Dark Brotherhood armor looked a lot better in Oblivion.  But, my save games got nuked so I can't check them anymore.

Even Hearthfire would be a good deal if it was $10.

Wow Vampires are dumb in Skyrim.

"LULZ LET US KIDNAP THE FREAKING JARL OF WHITERUN!"
Yep they kidnapped Vignar Grey Mane.

The leader of one of the most powerful cities.
Former member and close friend of the companions
Ally of ULFRIC STORMCLOAK!

Really?
Why dont you just Kidnap Ulfric then!

Because Ulfric is most likely better guarded, not to mention more paranoid. The Jarl of Whiterun, be it Grey Mane or Balgruuf, should be a easier man to be kidnapped than Stormcloak, assuming the latter has been aided by the Dovahkiin in his quest for the crown.

I disagree about this being dumb; seems to shut down activites in that Hold area fairly well, and only the Dragonborn appears to have the ability to save them, if they so desire. While I would tend to go for the rescue option, perhaps others would find the lesser control left of said Hold to be desirable for some reason.

Right.  Lets assess the  potential  risk  of the Vampire plan.  Or to speak in your language:   LETS THINK THIS THROUGH.  lol

Vignar Grey-Mane:    Age -- about 80 years old.
His Steward:  Olfina Grey-mane, former bar waitress,  Armed with an iron dagger,
His Court Wizard:  Farengar.   Skyrim's verson of a Nerd.    A man who'd likely be fascinated... nay,  transfixed  at the sight of an  actual Vampire in  action and would  probably not lift a finger to interrupt the show.
His Housecarl:  What Housecarl?

I like the Vampire's chances.   The  planned attack  (where'd you get the idea it was a kidnapping?) is a covert mission based on secret infiltration of the court.  And as far as we know,  cell phones and text messaging hasn't been invented in Tamrial as of  4E  201, nor do any existing members of the companions possess  telepathic skills.  So  relying on them  to show up  in minutes, as if they were  a 9-1-1 emergency dispatch is.... not a good idea.

The timely arrival of the Dragonborn is the only  unforseen factor, and the *only* reason the vampire does not succeed.  So we'll chalk that up to luck.  The same kind of bad luck that  can botch any well laid plan.  Nothing at all to do with  being "dumb".

Am so looking forward to new content that even ESO is becoming more appealing, and on a good day I would rather have lemon juice poured onto fresh papercuts than be forced into PK territory.

Might have to try one of the races left unused thus far or something; have already covered every listed quest and storyline.

Maybe they should have hid him somewhere that was not in sight of the city...or my PC's house.

If it did have a real affect it would just ****** people off even more.

Altmer is the only race of the 10 I haven't tried yet. And I'm not sure I can drum up the desire to ever play one. There's just too much fun in seeking them out on the road and killing them, so trying to actually role play one and seeing Thalmor as "kin".... ugh. I can't stretch my mind that far.

I rp'ed my Altmer as an anti-Thalmor agent who came to Skyrim to monitor their activities for the resistance.

I just RPed my Altmer as a "FOR MAGIC" type person.

He did not really care and just focused on magic studies.
He still fireballs every Thalmor patrol he comes across. Mostly because they annoy him.

My High Elf began as pro Magic design, and became an anti-Thalmor agent after being insulted and attacked by Thalmor on the roads. Oh well; Dragonborn: 12+, Thalmor: 0.

Best part of the Altmer playthrough was the taller perspective, and the longer stride.

Oh man... I'm bad. Just watched Olfina Gray-Mane getting chomped by a dragon and all I could think was:

"Yeah girl! Go for it! You're getting eaten as good as any man!"

So I just got Hearthfire from the Steam sale (less than $3!) I recall folks here having run into some pretty bad bugs, some of which were bad enough to force reloads on much earlier saves and losing hours of their games. What are the major one I should be aware of? Are there any tricks or things I should *not* do that will avoid some of the worse ones?

Only one I can think of is when you make a home, adopt a kid, and decide to move them there, your significant other moves there as well automatically and there's no option to move back into a different home like say Proudspire Manor in Solitude.

Which is what I WISH I could do. Goddamn it.

Alright, I'm downloading Hearthfire now as well. For €2,50 there's not much that can go wrong.

I'll probably finish The Witcher before I can get into Skyrim again though...
