Only one I can think of is when you make a home, adopt a kid, and decide to move them there, your significant other moves there as well automatically and there's no option to move back into a different home like say Proudspire Manor in Solitude.

Which is what I WISH I could do. Goddamn it.

Do you have a child's bedroom in the Proudspire house? After starting a new game, I just purchased Honeyside and I got the child's bedroom, which goes where the Enchanter's station went and you can still buy the enchanter's station and I wonder where it goes.

Heheheh all that talk and no skill I guess for Olfina.
Maybe she should have actually worn ARMOR or had a real weapon.

So I just got Hearthfire from the Steam sale (less than $3!) I recall folks here having run into some pretty bad bugs, some of which were bad enough to force reloads on much earlier saves and losing hours of their games. What are the major one I should be aware of? Are there any tricks or things I should *not* do that will avoid some of the worse ones?

Hearthfire is one of those rare pieces of gaming software that's  more buggy on Xbox than it is on PC.    The vast majority of the  bug reports you've heard have been from Xbox  players.   As it stands, my copy  (PC version) has no bugs.  None.

Edit:  Check that.  I've encountered one (1) bug.  After Hearthfire, you can forget about using Breezehome ever again, as your game will crash if you try to enter it.  So the workaround is to... not buy breezehome.  It's obsolete anyway once you have hearthfire.  (who needs a small shack in the city, when you can have a mansion instead, with its own icon on the world map,  Horse stables,  Ingredient garden, fishery, Blacksmithing station, alchemy lab, enchanting station and smelter?)

Does Hearthfire offer anything that the billion and a half house mods on Nexus don't do?

Serious question, since I have several palatial estates...many of which I don't use more than to walk up to and say...'yep it's still here.'

Only one I've encountered, after building several houses, is that on one character she has a journal prompt to use the drafting table even though she already did, and the house is not appearing.  But she already has the other two houses so I'm not too bothered.  That was for the Morthal house.

edit- Oh, I also have the Breezehome bug!  Make sure to get anything out of there and say goodbye before loading Hearthfire.  No fix yet that I'm aware of.

On my Serana problem, I fixed it using the console, set playerfollowercount to 0

Question about the Soul Cairn.  I can't find the other seal to open this room.  Just the one you see here.  Anyone remember it?

I also despair of ever finding all Jiub's pages.  Poor guy.  I bet his claim to fame is a nod to the "Cliffracer Extinction" mods that people made for Morrowind.  Another Easter egg is how some souls say "just step into the painting, he said"... a throwback to an Oblivion quest.

It offers 3 new Housecarls, 3 new spouses, New alchemy ingredients, and a really cool fishery.

I dislike those kinds of MMO-esque quests (search this area for 10x items) because they're  lazy quest writing,  so I never bothered finishing it. But for what it's worth, they're not that hard to find. I found 8 of them without trying.

With the new NPCs and actually building it yourself, it is more like a quest line than just a house mod.  It adds a lot.

That sounds nasty as a bug. I haven't downloaded Hearthfire as it was supposed to be incredibly buggy on release. I think I'll pick it up now, but I'm going to have to make few trips to clear out my Breeze home, which I've been using as a central storage dump. I'm such a pack rat!

^ You don't even need a mod, I got them all in about 20 minutes using a wiki guide. I just wanted to get the hell out of the Soul Cairn, really didn't care for it at all.

Where are the Elven children? Did Ulfric eat them or something?

There are no lizard children either. Or Kajiit kittens. As far as I know, there's only Nord and Breton Kids, not that there's any difference between a Nord kid and a Breton kid. . All the boys look exactly the same, and all the girls look exactly the same.

After playing Skyrim so much this past year, I am now somewhat amused that Nords, Dunmer, and Argonians will be allies in ESO. Of course, this is set 1000 yrs before Ulfric and other like mindsets, but talk about your uneasy alliances.

Besides bolts and arrows, are there any impaling weapons? I made an Argonian, and wanted to utilize some sensible underwater weaponry if extant.

Enemies have formed alliances before in Tamriel, and it's ironic that people consider the Dunmer and Nords to be at a low point in TESV when actually the fact that Nord jarls let them peacefully take disputed land for free and settle in Skyrim in mass numbers puts them at a high point of their cooperation. Nevertheless, don't expect TESO to make sense.

AFAIK you can't use any weapon underwater in TESV.  Mods do add spears and halberds.

Yes, turn your character around and look at the doorway leading out of that "building". Now look a bit to your right and you'll see another seal "hidden" behind some rabble.

Yep, but was looking for a RP reason to use some weaponry vs others, as my DB's tend to all utilize the same ones generally.

And I am more interested in ESO as another solo game which is supposedly possible, but there are some elements which would seem to make this game more vulnerable to griefing and PvP than I prefer.

Adoption?   Im sure theres a mod for that anyway which makes it better then Hearthfire

I would say thats about it though.  Hearthfire is a reward based DLC where you painstaking construct your home from the ground up over a number of hours.   But if thats not your thing then stick with your palaces

Daggers are probably the closest thing to "impaling" weapons that you'll find in the vanilla game (and yes, you can effectively fight off Slaughterfish in waist deep water  with a dagger, without it looking too unbelievable).

Alrighty, thank you.  We're out of there now but I plan to go back and talk to Valerica after finishing the quest line.

Onward to the Forgotten Vale.  Knight-Paladin Gelebor for LI in TES VI!!!

Am going with daggers and 1-H swords, though the animations of the latter are obviously based on slashing techniques. But for shallow waters, Shock works rather well vs the slaughterfish met thus far, at least with past characters.

I chose to give Sseazar Swift-Shadow a try because of the unlimited swimming advantage. While this is not even a secondary requirement in the game, there are some sunken treasures out these that this ability will be helpful in salvaging.

And he will actually side with the Nords based on the old allainces until he visits his brethren in Windhelm; most likely will remain inactive for the Civil War events.

Erm, that went exactly as expected. First, when I turned on the PS3, I had to do a system update. That took a while.

Then, I put in the Oblivion disc, and got an error message that I needed an additional 5GB of space free to play. *sigh* I deleted Borderlands 1 and Fallout New Vegas (I replayed those on 360), and went on my merry way.

So then I started Oblivion, and went through my 5 save game files. Uh-oh. I apparently cleaned house a little too well, as the one character that I put most of my time into wasn't there. Gone. Poof. So I loaded the other 2 saved games that I had.

And realized that my characters are hideous. Like...tie a bone around their necks, hideous. Image IPB

Lulz, I wish I still had my fugly, cookie monster blue-haired Imperial from Oblivion, but my oldest son deleted that playthrough a looong time ago, which is what actually led to me getting my own console. Yeah, Oblivion really did have some ugly characters. Just as well there was no romance or marriage in that game.

I just finished the Dawnguard DLC with my newer character siding against the vampires. I really liked it and I think both sides are really well done and enjoyable. Poor Snow Elves; I feel bad for them. :(

There are only really two theories I put any weight in about the Snow Elves.

Either:
They attacked the Nords, and got wiped out

Or the Nords attacked them and they got wiped out.

Still repeating many of my prior playthrough activities, but it is kinda cool to abandon a steed and swim in the waterways of Skyrim for a change of pace. If there were nets and tridents in the game, Argonians would be a force of reckoning.

Really enjoyed what was done with Snow Elves in DG, and hope to see more of them in future TES material. However, Redguards seem to need a boost, as other races have better racial abilities.

There is now a mod which fixes the Breezehome CTD.  Works with Dovahkiin Hideout.  I'll test it with Breezehome Enchanting Table tomorrow.  It won't work with any mod that changes the navmesh of Breezehome.

Whew... I got a lot of crap out of there, including some important stuff like the witches' heads to heal lycanthropy and some dragon priest masks.

Well most racial abilities are worthless anyway. At least both of them actually do something, which is more than can be said for some races.

Battle Cry for example isn't much use outside the early levels. Water breathing sounds cool, but nothing much really happens underwater, and you can just get gear and potions for those few occasions. Nightvision is also pointless because it's never too dark.

The best ones are the resistances (cold resistance, magic resistance and too a lesser degree fire resistance) and the magicka bonus.
