So this is pretty.

Well yes, that's... umm... yeah...
Not going to bother looking for proper words to describe this awesomeness, I'm speechless.
...though even the author admits that he uses 100 mods and pretty much each shot is taken with a different set.... and with max grass and such even he gets several frames per second... And warns that with just the mods he lists, you won't be able to achieve quite THAT. So I can consolate myself that it's probably not really playable this way.
But..... wow.

A guy that works in the Marketing department where I work told me over a beer last night that he just bought Skyrim. Apparently, after getting out of Helgen, he just started hoofing it across the map, because he didn't know what to do. He ended up in Solitude. He didn't stop to explore any ruins, caves, anything; just kept walking/running until he got to the capital. I laughed.
I wondered about that, when informed by our rescuers of heading towards their respective HQ's. But to get there unscathed and on foot is rather surprising. Good gaming!

Graphically, yes.Giggles_Manically wrote...
I wonder if 30 years from now people will look back at Skyrim like we look back at like the Atari 2600.
If the consistant trend of visual improvement continues, like it has for the past 30 years, as crazy as it sounds, we'll be looking back at screenshoots of Skyrim's lush and breath-taking environments and saying stuff like "ew.... how could we have ever thought that looked good!?" And our kids/grandkids will say: "yuck, I just can't get myself to play that game. Hurts my eyes!"
If the same sort of games are still being made 30 years from now (big IF, btw), look for them to be indistinguishable from real life in visual quality. We won't be talking in tech-terminology like "high resolution", and "textures", as such terms will be redundant and obsolete. The industry will simply use words like "perfect", "real", and "actual". Graphic quality will be defined by "mega-pixels".... like camera photos
I'll leave it to your imagination how Nude mods will look lol.

I already do. Skyrim isn't a good looking game. I wonder how CDPR's sandbox will look.

Well, assuming he's not much of a gamer, I'm actually surprised he made it. By all rights he probably should've died a horrible death several times over. So...yay for the new guy....oh, who now needs to make it back to Whiterun!

I can see how people wouldn't know what to do in the beginning, though. Both Hadvar and Ralof can throw you off with the " I think we should part ways" line.

Mine was Fallout 3, and I was so determined to find James, I kept trying to charge into the DC ruins with a baseball bat and a 10mm pistol. That went well.Barbarossa2010 wrote...
My first open-world game was Oblivion, and emerging from the sewers was my wth moment. I did know enough to check my quest log, but quickly realized I probably wouldn't make that distance at such a low level. Then behold, I looked over my shoulder and there was the Imperial City. I just headed that way, and hung out there for a while learning the system, and, of course, joining the arena! It did cross my mind to just bull my way cross country coming out of the sewers, but being such a noob, cooler heads did prevail.
In Oblivion I did head in the general direction of the monastery. I always like the MQ in Bethesda games, unlike many people. Martin Septim, the only imperial worth my time.

Yeah Fallout more than any other game imo, is absolutely unforgiving to the low-level PC. The game is perfectly designed to give you a small safe haven, to get your bearings and add a level or two. I just got a mental re-picture of me swinging a baseball bat at a wild dog, and him taking my health to nearly nothing as I only landed only every 4th or 5th blow, and the little bastard nearly prevailing. Don't even know how you made it to the river at that level and armed like a veritable swaddling babe!

But this can't be possible. I was told that you simply can't cosplay NPCs unless they have static, unremovable, outfits.HoonDing wrote...

How is that any more cartoonish then being able to just hack away at a dragon with a sword/mace/axe till it dies and not just get turned into bbq by said dragon or eaten.Yrkoon wrote...
Still, as far as "trolling", it's an ameteur effort. Let me show you how to do it right.Addai67 wrote...
Looking at those achievements, I can hear the weeping and gnashing of whiners' teeth now. "I have to ride 5 dragons to get the achievement, I only thought we had to do it once, waaaaah!"
Sic the sweet troll on them.
Are you surprized? it makes total sense, from a marketing perspective, to have a meaningless, acheivement-goal for a cartoonish feature. The two concepts (hi-ho-silver dragon riding -and- Look at how cool I am, I got an achievement) appeal to the exact same type of gamer: The type who plays games in order to "accomplish" trophies to wow his buddies on Steam and Xbox live. Of course that type of gamer is going to want to do "kapow!" stuff that makes him feel like a god, and then brag about it online. Stuff like riding firebreathing dragons and other such overpowered flashiness that comes with that.
PS: Didn't me and you have a long, drawn out debate a while back about High Fantasy vs. Political in RPGs? And didn't you say you much prefer the latter? Well, there you go. The opposite of your preference: You get to ride around on dragons. It doesn't get any more High fantasy than that. Enjoy.
