So what is the appeal with spears, anyway? Were they in a previous TES?

It's mostly nostalgia and this.

I'll take that over the last few Bioware mistakes, believe me.

^ Wow. That doesn't interest me at all. Now, Halberds on the other hand, mayhap. Similar, but not quite the same. Can you imagine the cool blade designs they could come up with?

Yes they had playable spears in MW, and as far as I can tell the lust to have them back is mostly about Morrowind nostalgia, and about the infinite capacity of ES fandom to find something to complain about. Not that I would mind having more combat options, but I'd rather see spellcrafting come back, even in a more limited form than we had in Oblivion.

Hmm, well this isn't quite the same thing, but we do have an option to buy/craft staves. There is a merchant who sells blank Illusion, Conjuration, etc. staves, which you can customize with a spell of your choosing. You could do that in the Midden in the vanilla game, but this makes it a bit easier, I think.

I picked up a named weapon that had a new enchantment on it, which randomized ice, fire, or lightning damage, AND you can disenchant it. I didn't have any blank weapons with me, so I haven't actually tried it out yet. I can't remember the exact name of the enchantment, but it had something to do with "Chaos". Pretty cool. (The weapon was the Champion's Cudgel).

I have a feeling that there will be lots of little things to discover, in typical Bethesda fashion. That faith may make me a fangirl, but so be it. I can definitely own that.

^ I haven't gotten that far yet, and I'm curious, too. Can anyone else give their opinion?

Miraak's voice is alright. I didn't think anything of it.

Certainly isn't a Paarthurnax or Sovereign.

Sowwy. :(

But yeah, I heard his voice and I was like, "Oh, he just sounds like a person. A special ethereal kind of person, but not 'otherworldly' or 'godlike' or anything"

It doesn't take away from the experience, I can assure you of that.

Heh, I was thinking the default Dunmer male voice was actually Sovereign, but Keith Szaraba... whatshisname voiced Harbinger I think, not Sovereign.

Any new lore on our favorite über Nord Ysgramor?

I just heard his voice, disappointed. Very disappointed. He sounds like fricken Ulfric what the hell?

^ That ought to make Addai happy. Image IPB

I haven't seen anything about Ysgramor yet, but there are alot of new books. One that tickled me funny was, "Confessions of a Dunmer Skooma Eater".

As you can imagine, Apocrypha is filled to the brim with books. Get to reading.

I need to stop watching stuff about Dragonborn.

I really want to avoid spoilers!

lolno

Well, because books kinda make up the place.

But there are a TON of readable tomes, some with stories, some that teach new spells.

Do books fly around or just pages? I know I saw some pages fly around the first itme you meet Miraak.

:wub::wub::wub:

It couldn't really be as epic as Buliwyf, so I shall keep my expectations in check.

Miraak is one of Ye Olde Atmorans, of course he should sound like a Nord.

No Dragonborn for another month? George termokanden is getting upset!

Although I do have about 500 other things to do in my free time.

Speaking just for myself, the weapon my character wields is as much a defining characteristic as her personality, ambitions, face, etc.  I don't just use whatever; it has to have a certain style, feel and look.

I also prefer atypical weapons.  I like an ebony battleaxe as much as the next gamer but swords, axes, hammers, and daggers are boring because they are found in every other game and are so generic that people tend to just take them in games such as D&D where there are dozens of options.  I don't need Asian-themed weapons to be cool or different, just give me a simple halberd - incidently probably the most successful and versatile melee weapon ever made - and I'd be thrilled.

^ I knew there was another reason I like you. Image IPB I mentioned Halberds earlier on this page - in any game where I can use a Halberd, I always do. White Knight Chronicles comes to mind, actually. And a couple of others I can picture, but can't place. Arrgh.

Well, that's cool. I can appreciate diversity in weaponry, and it makes sense to be true to the character you're playing's persona. I just don't personally have any experience with spears, IRL, or in games, so I wasn't sure what the draw was.

So are there spears? And are they 2 handed only? Or can I use 'em with a shield?

No Spears sadly.

The Bethesda forums are alight with people demanding spears.
