I think you'll be happy with Dragonborn in that regard. There are lots of little islands to check out, and most of them have something on them of interest.

Took your advice and just found a island where there are Giant Nirnroots about the size of a person!!

They give away 3 or 4 ordinary Nirnroots when you pick them, although I almost feel guilty picking them now since they wont grow back...

Still very cool  :)

^ That's the exact island where the dragon was waiting for me! Image IPB Well, unless there's more than one with those giant nirnroot.

There's another small island that's very close to an old boat dock, which has a Nordic ruin (you can't enter), with two Stahlrim deposits, and some loot. The boat dock actually has a named Mudcrab living there, which I killed before I realized...but alas, he was hostile anyway. I think I found that on the NW part of the map.

I have a tendency to follow the coasts when exploring, then work my way in. I'm crazy that way, I think, but it gives me an idea of what's where (there are a lot of locations right on the beach). And it gives me lots of fast travel points. I'm sure there are a metric ton of locations I'm not even close to yet. I did get that explorer achievement already (find 30 locations in Solstheim).

Also, What's wrong with that character's stamina bar?   How come it's at zero and stays that way, even when she's just standing around? Does walking on water instantly set your stamina to zero? (if it does, it's probably so that you can't sprint on the water) That's my guess at least.

Possibly the PC is also a vampire during daylight?

These tidbits of wondermous info are killing me, but tis a sweet death. Image IPB

Okay, now all I need is to keep refilling The Black Star and using it to enchant my new weapons and armor.

So I guess IT IS TIME TO KILL THINGS.

Isn't it weird watching the 22 minute Skyrim demo nowadays? Hah. I loved it when it came out-

Or the Skyrim demo at Quakecon-

Such fun.

So...once I got my house in Raven Rock, I decided to take a little nap, and woke up at the Beast Stone, hammering alongside a Riekling. Image IPB

Sadly, though, the warriors of the mead hall next door decided to fight and kill him.

I dunno, I thought that door lead to another part of the dungeon. I told them to wait so feared having to go the whole way back to Skyrim after three days to get them again.

I got past it anyway using brute force and unintentional comedy. Stopping after every set to heal Meeko while leaving Serana to be battered around by swinging blades. Watching her getting smacked and sliced around while i heal the dog was somewhat hilarious.

Did you end up trying other doorway out of that room? The first is the swinging blades that you mentioned; the other is a stairway that goes up and out. However, right in front of the stairway is one of the Black Books.

Where's the other door? The one I used was the one just up the stairs from the black book.

^ Ahh, ok, you got the right one. I was thinking you were saying you went back through the other way, and I was worried you'd missed the Black Book. Never mind me. Reading is not always my strong suit. Image IPB

^^ Ah I see, I'm actually tempted to follow the river down because the save I'm about to reload is just before I bludgeoned the pair of them through the traps.

So what is the appeal with spears, anyway? Were they in a previous TES?

Speaking just for myself, the weapon my character wields is as much a defining characteristic as her personality, ambitions, face, etc.  I don't just use whatever; it has to have a certain style, feel and look.

Yep,  This is precisely my gaming philosphy to a T.  And you can't imagine how much heat   you'll take here by arguing that weapon-types matter for roleplaying,  to a forum  full of people who's  only concern is whether X is romanceable, or whether male characters  will have chest  hair   LOL

That all said, I'm  never nearly as excited for the possibility of spears  being added to a game as I am for Crossbows.  I love crossbows.  And I'm glad they're now in Skyrim.    But spears?  Meh, they're alright, but they have an overly primitive , 'savage' stigma attached to them, and unless I'm role-playing a loin-cloth wearing savage, I can never feel truly comfortable playing through a game with a spear-wielder.

The next time you'll see me excited about a weapon addition in skyrim is if they ever  encorporate Flails.  Flails, especially 2-handed flails, are probably my favorite weapon in a video game.

I have to say I agree with this, I'd much rather have more weapons than more bangable swamp witches. One good sword that just feels right for my character is worth 1000 sl*ts with daddy issues.

At level 80 combat is only fun when you do really random things.

Like leave a Rune right in the middle of a market place.
Just place your Rune and wait....

Er... what?

For Yrkoon

I've been reading the lore books that are up on the UESP wiki.  Thus far not bowled over by anything.  Maybe they'll be cooler in context.

I enjoyed reading the Poison Song books while I was playing Morrowind.
Heard they were in Dragonborn.

RP for me is more about my character and the weapons he uses than it is about  how many women with an angry exterior but soft centre he can bed. Something the DA games got horribly wrong for me.

Its very hard for me to relate to other characters when my character doesn't feel right. Weapons are a large part of that.

Yep, they sure are. I picked them up, and dropped them off at my house, but haven't read them yet. This inspires me to do that as soon as I get home!

Edit: I guess I don't have them all. There are 7 total, and I have about half.

You know I actually dont mind waiting a month for the DLC.
Guides get written for it
Reviews get posted for it
I can fill my paypal account without worry
Learn about the bugs and issues it has

I am not happy about waiting, but I guess it could be worse.

I will use the time to play other games I haven't had time to finish: Dishonored, BG:EE, Far Cry 3. Actually, there's more. I'm not going to make it in time for the Dragonborn PC release :)

Yes they had playable spears in MW, and as far as I can tell the lust to have them back is mostly about Morrowind nostalgia, and about the infinite capacity of ES fandom to find something to complain about. Not that I would mind having more combat options, but I'd rather see spellcrafting come back, even in a more limited form than we had in Oblivion.

As someone who's never played morrowind I just want ****ing halbards and naginatas cause I like them and they'd be perfect for the Battlemage I plan to build*playing a staffless mage just feels WRONG to me*.

They never promised spears.
I would like it if they had Spears.

But they never said they would have em.

As someone who has played Morrowind for untold hours and still holds it in high regard, I could not care less about spears.

That said, it's not a bad idea for them to add spears, I just don't see why it's a big deal.

Well as been said spears were never promised so I'm not upset over they're exclusion in the dlc.

Anyway, I am very excited about revisiting Solstheim.

Weirdly I still remember the day I first played Bloodmoon. Friday afternoon during a break from university. Awesome day. Bloodmoon was my favorite Morrowind expansion (back then, they were expansions, not DLCs :) ).

I really never cared about those but then again I never played morrowind, however I still do not see how the exclusion of a weapon is such a big deal. Not being able to be a werebear but having them fight you is a little disappointing though but again I wasn't particularly concerned with that either but it would have been interesting.

However I think Bethesda isn't done with Skyrim DLC or I hope they're not so anything is possible.

I love how this series puts an idea of something cool in your head when you read a book and then later delivers, at least environmentally and atmospherically. And when I got to meet a certain someone in Apocrypha I was pretty satisfied. He's just the perfect guy for my lore obsessed Altmer pure mage Conjuration and Illusion master to buddy up with and they generally gave me the dialogue options I was hoping for. This alone is enough for me to give this DLC a good review.

I also like how it recognizes things you've done earlier. Bodahn the Telvanni wizard thought it was nice that I was the Archmage of Winterhold and told me to come back in a couple decades when his current apprentice is done and I might learn a thing or two. I haven't played Dawnguard since I don't care about vampires but I feel like this one integrates into the main game better since it's about you being Dragonborn and so on. The story is pretty standard Bethesda, nothing special, but that's not the point really. Overall, well worth it so far.
