...And met a new follower option, who I must say, I think is WAY better than Serana. Her name is Frea, and she's a Skaal warrior. Dat voice. I'm considering kicking J'Zargo to the curb, to try her out, but I'm concerned about him finding his way home ok. I seem to have a problem with followers getting lost in my playthroughs - this will be illustrated very soon.

"Other followers may claim to be better than J'Zargo, but they cannot be as charming or powerful as he so J'Zargo always comes out on top." :wizard:

^ Does J'Zargo cast Fear? I haven't used him in ages, and didn't remember him using that spell, but every time we're around Draugr, they run in the other direction. Posted Image

Besides....-shudder- I still recall seeing Lydia getting smacked around by traps for a sold 10 minutes.
No finer AI to be seen.

That's why I like Frea - in a couple areas of the temple we were in, she actually commented on things I did, and - AND - when there were traps, she actually said that she would wait until I turned off the switch, and plunked her butt down on a step.

Her AI seems even more intelligent than Serana's to me. But alas, I haven't taken her out solo yet.

There's a glitch I'd say with a dead dragon's bones spawning when I spawn.

On a trip from Skyrim to Solstheim the bones spawned on top of me, then fell on the boat, and then slowly slid into the water.

Everyone was like, "Riiight, carry on as normal!"

I have seen a mod in use that grants the Light Foot perk to all followers. It does not stop all stupid things from occuring, but does help with common traps.

Personally, am with you on this, and play solo unless forced to take someone.

Not the first response, just the "best" one as the site deems.

But yeah, Beth dev confirms its just half-truths(I assume that would be stuff like the April 1st thing) and total falsehoods(the later DLCs).

S'all good.

The guy claiming to be a Beth dev could be a hoax account too.

I'm not saying I believe the OP is on the up and up.  It just so encompasses my fond hopes for Skyrim that reading it was cruel.

Not me; it's Dremora Lord party all the way!

..plus a follower. I ditched Serana, because she kept standing right in front of me, pretty much no matter what I did. I picked up J'Zargo, because I love his voice. He looks super awesome in the new Nordic armor, too.

I can say with full confidence that if I didn't have him or my Dremora Lords with me in some areas I've visited in Solstheim, my husband back in Falkreath would be collecting a life insurance settlement, several times over.

Dragonborn doesn't seem particularly friendly to stealth-type characters. I think I'll have an easier time with some of my others that are more melee-driven.

I'm thinking about doing a Skyrim fanfic about how my Nordic badass Auron Crowley -- A.K.A Stormblade and Duncan Jesus -- on how he'd prepare Skyrim for a Thalmor invasion under Ulfric's rule.

I have such ideas too.   My Stormcloak would open the College of Winterhold up, for instance, and use it to train battlemages and new thu'um masters.  That is really Skyrim's best hope IMO, to return to the shaman warrior tradition of their ancestors- the Atmoran way, without the dragon cult.

The Morrowind lore stuff looks really good.  I like the new Temple which is returning to the Dunmer's original daedra worship while integrating those who revered the Tribunal.  The Ashlanders being vindicated is kind of sweet, I like what I hear of them even if I haven't played MW.  All I really wanted to see out of the aftermath of the Red Year and Great War was Skyrim and Morrowind getting out from under the boot of the empire.  Seems the latter happened offscreen, the former we can still work on.  ^_^  Even better if the Nords and Dunmer can make an alliance against the Dominion, with Hammerfell too.  A trifecta of badass.

Follower Trap Safety is definitely a must-have mod.

I always take a follower.  It seems too lonely without them, and the pack rat aspect is nice for my mages who don't put points in stamina.

Eh?  What do you mean?

Do enemies cheat the system and detect you instantly?  Or  do most encounters take place outdoors and in daylight?

^ Yeah, even in sneak mode, they seem to notice you right away. My Bosmer wears light armor, and doesn't have smithing particularly high (70s), so maybe that has something to do with it (my armor rating isn't as high as it could be). They seem to hear you quickly, and hit HARD. If I didn't have my meat shields, I'd be better served on toast.

Regarding time of day...Well, until you get to a certain point in the MQ, most of the humanoids near one of the stones are...occupied. Because of that, encounters do happen pretty frequently in the daylight. Non-humanoids seem to detect you really easily, day or night. Ash Spawn, for instance, start pelting you long before you notice them, even if you're in sneak, and moving quietly/slowly.

^ My guess is that most max stealth by going light or non-armored, but this is not necessary. My fave playthrough is an Orc with heavy armor, and a 2H when the opponents close. It defines, "Surprise!".

Edit: Or not.... Posted Image

I use Sneak and Archery for all my builds, and have not had any major problems using them. I have found that sticking to shadows and moving about after daytime does help, but is not always required.

Yeah, in vanilla Skyrim, your stealth success  is hardly ever a static thing  (too many factors involved), you will  get detected if the conditions aren't right, even with 100 sneak.  But at least those conditions are documented and readily apparent  (even 100 sneak will  quickly fail if you try raiding, say,  a foresworn camp at noon when it's sunny and you're in the line of sight of half the camp's inhabitants.)

But when a game deliberately cheats you out of your  earned skills by breaking its own rules in order  to create challenge, well...  That's cheap.

If you've got 100 sneak,   and all the perks on the left hand side of the tree,   and you're wearing light armor, and you're inside a dark dungeon,  and you're alone, and you haven't  actually taken an offensive action,  or set off any bone chimes/traps,  then you have satisfied all the conditions.  An enemy should NOT be albe to detect you at this point.  If Dragonborn  ignores these conditions for the sake of challenge, I'll be disappointed.  greatly.

^ Maybe I'm just having an issue with visibility - some parts of the island are very ashy or snowy, and I'm still learning my way around.

But Draugr shouldn't act any differently inside.

I know - it must be J'Zargo, clomping around, drawing attention to us. Heh.

Oh! That reminds me! I had the most annoying thing happening to me inside the Temple of Miraak. My arrows seemed to be hitting invisible walls in front of enemies. I am always careful to make sure my shots aren't blocked on my side, so when you can see the arrow travel all the way to the enemy, then stop and drop right in front of them, there's something weird going on.

It really drives a point home about how nutty those forums are.

My first open-world game was Oblivion, and emerging from the sewers was my wth moment. I did know enough to check my quest log, but quickly realized I probably wouldn't make that distance at such a low level. Then behold, I looked over my shoulder and there was the Imperial City. I just headed that way, and hung out there for a while learning the system, and, of course, joining the arena! It did cross my mind to just bull my way cross country coming out of the sewers, but being such a noob, cooler heads did prevail.

Mine was Fallout 3, and I was so determined to find James, I kept trying to charge into the DC ruins with a baseball bat and a 10mm pistol.  That went well.  [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/lol.png[/smilie]

I can imagine; the Super Mutants killed my character while he was exploring what he thought was an abandoned trailer on the coast. I really enjoy how open to exploration the BSG games are, and how the original plans I have for my protagonists can change with the different places and characters you explore. I think Veronica would prefer the East Coast and Lyon's Brotherhood to their Mojave counterpart. I've actually been playing through Fallout 3 again, having finished New Vegas again a few weeks ago. Exploring the DC ruins now, and still on the search for James.

In Oblivion I did head in the general direction of the monastery.  I always like the MQ in Bethesda games, unlike many people.  Martin Septim, the only imperial worth my time.  [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/love.png[/smilie]

I probably would have appreciated some alternate dialogue in the MQ for Oblivion; while Martin was certainly a nice guy, I don't think it made much sense for my Dark Brotherhood assassin to acknowledge him as his Emperor. I think the MQ in Skyrim addressed that nicely, with the options you have to side with the Greybeards or the Blades, and how you can give different reasons to Paarthurnax about why you are embarking on a quest to defeat Alduin. It was nice to tell Tsun who you were as well; the Listener of the Night Mother, or the Archmage of the College of Winterhold.

As a PS3 player, I sure as hell hope we get Dragonborn. It'd be nice to also get Hearthfire and Dawnguard at some point.

Yes, it certainly would. My (Tribunal) Dunmer mage became a Volkihar vampire, and it'd be cool to have him become a Vampire Lord. It'd be nice not to have to feed on sleeping NPCs every 24-48 hours, too.

As for the latest DLC, I'm wondering how "Dragonborn" is going to be for Dunmer protagonists, given the Dunmer exodus to Solstheim during the Red Year.

Addai67 wrote...

As a relative empire hater, I have to say I'm pleased at the new Morrowind lore I'm hearing about. Morrowind no longer an imperial province, House Hlaalu removed from power, anti-imperial sentiment, Telvanni surviving. *evil laughter*

Now if only the Dunmer and Nords continue to get along and form an alliance against the Dominion, I will be as happy as TES can make me.

Morrowind is independent? Huzzah! :wizard: Perhaps the Dunmer and the Nord could restore the Ebonheart Pact.

No spears...but we do get two new weapon materials/designs, at least.

- Stahlrim
- Nordic

I prefer the Nordic, but the Stahlrim swords look pretty cool - like ice.

Now you guys have me wishing for Halberds.

That's what I hear.  The legion bailed out during the Oblivion Crisis, Redoran stepped in and created a standing army which is the only way that Morrowind was able to withstand Oblivion gates opening.  So this led to Redoran, Indoril and Telvanni resurgence while the houses that were aligned with the empire declined, and a lot of people resented the fact that Morrowind was abandoned.

All this is second-hand information, though, since PC player and all.  *grumble*

It is funny is it not?

For four games we fought to save the Empire.
Then the empire undid itself and showed us what it really was.

A Cyrodilic centered power for Imperials only.
They sold out the Redguards and the Nords and the Dunmer!

I mean eventually High Rock is going to leave as well I bet.
It is such a shame that Emperor Sean Bean died only to have the empire collapse.

Yep. B)

My Courier emancipated the Mojave; encouraged the Great Khans to find their own path, had a plethora of allies, took down the Fiends, brought the Remnants back together, destroyed the Brotherhood, kicked out the Legion, and forced the NCR to surrender. It was time for retirement. ;)

My Lone Wanderer has just gotten out of the Vault, took down Mr. Burke and saved Sheriff Simms, defused the bomb, befriended the Outcasts, helped Ian West after he lost control, gained some cool technology and saved the lives of Protector McGraw and Specialist Olin, aided Paladin Hoss, found a home in Rivet City for Bryan, and is currently in the DC ruins. I'm planning to take down Paradise Falls eventually. Not sure about Tenpenny Tower (because of Dashwood), although I'm planning on taking out Alistair Tenpenny.

I expect to be taking another sabbatical when Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn make it to the PS3. I think it'll be interesting to have my Dark Brotherhood assassin side with the Dawnguard by virtue of being a werewolf, while my Tribunal mage joins the Volkihar Clan and finds a place among his people - despite typically siding against the darker elements of the narrative.

Based on the comments in this thread, people have been enjoying the Skyrim DLCs, so they seem to be a good bet. I wonder where they'll go from here.

Interesting. I'm sure Helseth didn't last long once Morrowind seceded from the Empire. I wonder how southern Morrowind is doing since the Argonian invasion.

Only thing I've read is that it's confirmed the invasion was limited only to southern MW, which was pretty clear from the novels anyway.  Though they apparently also made some incursions into Vvardenfell to chase down notorious slavers (Brand-Shei's quest suggests this) and to do some kind of religious ritual at the Scathing Bay in Vvardenfell, what was once the city of Vivec- that is from the novels.

The capital of Morrowind is now a place called Blacklight.  It does seem that the Dunmer are rebuilding, even in the devastated areas.  All in all things are looking up for Morrowind fans who were worried the Red Year might be the end of the province.

Funny, reading a few things above regarding FO3, NV, and Skyrim: I actually have yet to save Simms in FO3 or unite the Remnants in NV. Those are both on the to-do list. Tenpenny is marked for death in every playthrough, and I just bide my time until I can get to him. I simply am unable to betray Megaton. I usually just take him, and him alone, out of the picture. Talon company always goes bye, 1. I need the armor for repair, and 2. I really get tired of those a-holes.

I still have to complete Dawnguard, and I suppose in turn, Dragonborn...well, when it's released for PC, so I suppose I'm in no hurry for exclusivity to pass.
