Oh, a Morrowind nostalgist. Grand. Not like the BGS forums has enough of those.
Seriously chaps, I wasn't "trolling" (it's a stupid, pointless pursuit) nor am I a Morrowind nostalgist as such, I wanted both Oblivion and Skyrim to be the next step up from Morrowind, but both have been somewhat of a side-step IMO. Oblivion for me was an awful one, Skyrim was a better, but still shallow one. The reason I came to the thread was to get an answer to my question below, which Alschemid kindly answered.
How much difference have the mods made? I can only play on Xbox 360 so
was wondering if a vamped-up version may be released at some point?

If you don't like the main story and quests I doubt you will find any mod that will make you like them. I play the game as a RPG, which means roleplaying it, creating the characters, giving them their initial motivations and goals, and set the characters free in this world to try to achieve them, sometimes they do some of the questlines, sometimes they don't.
Most of the mods I use are the realistic ones to make the exploration of the world more complex and difficult, so that the characters need to eat, sleep, to wear warm clothes and be able to build a fireplace to survive the cold weather, no fast travel, limited running and carry weight, the combat more deadly, lower timescale, everything much more expensive, less loot, and so on.
Thanks for the answer.
I would like to try Skyrim again with no fast travel, a better levelling system, and no encumberance (and better magic for that). The trouble is I play on Xbox 360 so would probably have to wait for a GOTY edition, or 3-4 years down the line when I upgrade my PC
The trouble for me is that encumberance, whilst realistic, turns everything into a chore. I want to explore the world and that is what Morrowind did so well for me - you could go explore a dungeon and come back before having to worry about encumberance.
I don't want to be trudging back and forther looting, and whilst the fast travel system helps with that it also kills any real sense of adventure. I'm just playing Dragon's Dogma and loving that (only 20 hours in though). I'm so happy that there is no fast travel and it really feels like I'm doing some adventuring. Again though, I'm spending too much time managing my inventory, so again I wish that had no/more forgiving encumberance.

I would so love this mod. I cannot tell you how many reloads I have had to do because town members die before I can finish their quests for them.

I believe I spent about 35 hours completing Dragonborn.MarchWaltz wrote...
Okay, so for the peeps who finished dragonborn, how much content is in it compared to shivering isle? If you could, how long would you say it is?
Also, I heard it is more difficult.
No spoilers sil vous plait
It was an entire week of playing - every evening and all weekend. If you blaze through the MQ, it won't take that long, but if you explore, take your time, and do all the side quests, time is relative. It's all what you make of it. There's a lot of extra content, and a bit of it spills over into Skyrim proper.
It is more difficult than vanilla Skyrim. But then again, I thought the same of Shivering Isles.

I've never had a vampire attack that causes any damage. Everytime it happens the guards end up killing the vampires, maybe that just happens because my main was a level 60 or something, but I've never had any NPC die from vampire attacks.

Solstheim is pretty much half ash, half snow(in other words, half beige, half white).

On my Bosmer.
Needless to say seeing an elf using it gives me lulz.
Seriously its just endlessly amusing to swing that thing around and clobber mooks.
Luckily for me I got a mod that makes it under the Steel Smithing school.

You guys are using mods to save NPCs from vampire attacks? That's part of the challenge! If you play it right, you won't ever lose anyone. It just takes caution and awareness of your surroundings, if you're that worried about it.
Well, I think you'll like Dragonborn DLC in that regard. No vampire attacks in Solstheim.

I just realized something last night.
Every faction leader dies when you join.
Kodlak, Mercer, Aren, Harkon, and Astrid.
The only ones who avoid it are the Bards and Isran.
I mean damn that is a pretty spotty thing to put on your resume.

I haven't been to Sovngarde in any of my recent playthroughs. I think the reason is because i just can't pick who I'm there in honor of. It's easy to just say Kodlak, but what of the others?

Gave me time to get there and save the people of Whiterun.
Never a more true warrior then one who fights for others I guess.

Just now?
If I were the head of a faction in Tamriel, no matter how powerful, and some promising newcomer joined who had an otherworldly power/aura, I'd immediately contemplate retirement.

Not in Whiterun! Don't know what it is about that place, but they always seem to attack at the main gate when I am on the other side of the town. I hear the commotion, run to the gate and a couple of NPC's are dead before I get there. Only happens in Whiterun, but it does happen.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like random encounters with vampires, dragons, etc. happen more frequently, and are bundled in my runs these days. I don't know if it's just been a steady progression with Dawnguard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn, or what, but it seems like if I fast travel (and sometimes when I don't), I get a mix of at least two of these at once:
- Bandits
- Vampires
- Dragons
- Random un-named conjurer/elemental mage
It's even worse if you play a vampire lord character, and finish the Dawnguard MQ. Then you could also add Dawnguard to that list. Total chaos.
Maybe I run around too fast, and collect each group on the way.

I really enjoy playing with no fast travel... just walking around exploring the world!
In the PC you can set how much weight the character can carry using just the console command or using mods that change the game configuration or add bandoliers and backpacks, unfortunately they don't work on Xbox...
I hope that in 3-4 years we already have the Skywind Mod finished... so we can go to Morrowind too.

That mod is hilarious. After a Whiterun attack, I see the carriage guy coming out of the temple of Kynareth.

I found an interesting fact. It seems either Faendal or Sven send a group of thugs to attack you after their mini quest depending on who you sided with. I readed on the wiki page, but it never happened to me. Did anyone ever got this?
However, if you steal from their house (or I guess if you pickpocket the note - never tried that), they will definitely send someone after you. Any and everyone will. It's always fun when you read the note on a thug's corpse from someone you've never heard of. My characters have very sticky fingers.

Yeah, once I got attacked by an dark brotherhood member, since it seems someone contracted them to kill me. Wich is strange because I didn't screwed with anyone at that point of the game. Who would want me dead, the draugrs?
They always come after you no matter what you've done or if you have screwed or not screwed with anybody. The only way to get rid of them is to get rid of the brotherhood itself or by joining it. I just tell myself that people with the abilities of the Dragonborn are always wanted dead by someone regardless of their moral standing.

You know I'm curious what happens to vampire's souls when they die.
I don't think it's ever mentioned that vampires go somewhere different simply for being vampires, as opposed to werewolves. It's possible certain sects of vampires might have certain beliefs about where their souls go when they die.
