Yeah, once I got attacked by an dark brotherhood member, since it seems someone contracted them to kill me. Wich is strange because I didn't screwed with anyone at that point of the game. Who would want me dead, the draugrs?
Hadvar, if you escaped with Ralof. Ralof if you escaped with Hadvar. That's what I assume.
I found Serana kind of meh. Dislike having to ditch my other followers to cart her around. She called my character's husband an "interloper." I thought that was a little extreme.

Yeah, if you don't take the Light Step perk, he'll push you onto every trap in the room, too.Giggles_Manically wrote...

I was kind of wondering if Serana was bumping into me more frequently, because I still had a Dawnguard quest we needed to do. Maybe that's my psychological tie to Barbas. It probably doesn't really work that way, but it seems like it.
@Addai - yeah, doesn't seem likely. I think the DB assassin is probably a scripted part of the game. The time and place is random, but you always get hit up by one.

That's Kharjo! And he does get lost. And stuck. Often. So does J'Zargo (and probably all vanilla followers). It makes me sad. They're supposed to just appear after some point, next to you, but that's not always reliable.
J'Zargo got completely lost in one of the new Dragonborn Dwemer ruins, and even fast traveling didn't make him appear. He didn't die, so I'm guessing he got caught on a door or something, and the game forgot to bring him. I reloaded and left him outside. We had a temp follower for a quest at the time, so I'm guessing it prioritized.
Also, in that same run, J'Zargo started the beer dance. I don't know what the heck was going on, but for an entire evening of play, he stood there and did the arm dance, like he was out carousing at one of Skyrim's many pubs. And mumbled, and did all the other cute things he and Kharjo do. It was bizarre, and it stopped the next day.
Oh, and p.s. I didn't say I don't like Serana. On the contrary, I still like her; she's just been acting up lately, so I've been sowing my wild oats, as it were.
Honestly, I just like Frea from Dragonborn so much more.
You're like a walking Skyrim encyclopedia! Yeah, it was Kharjo and I loved him. He became too much of a liability for me. I would be getting ready to strike on some forsworn camp. Bow ready, crouching tiger position, sweat beading on my upper lip as I prepare for battle. "Okay, J-Kitty, let's do this!....J-Kitty? Goddamnit!" Who knows where he was and no amount of time-waiting reunited him with me. So, like a loser I would have to sheath my bow and walk away while the forsworn no doubt pointed and laughed at me as I found my partner in crime hump dancing some rock.
I like Frea too. She's actually a pretty good tank for a mage character. Much better than my Leroy Jenkins aka Derkeethis, whom I both love and loathe.

I mean...in Skyrim its like everyone turned being polite off for the most part just to hurl insults.
"I insulted the PC and all I got was this lousy chest piece!"
They must be handing those out or something.
Ah well their deaths shall be amusing when my Khajiit takes over Skyrim.

Agree. Roaming Skyrim is probably the greatest pastime in the game...well, other than mowing down necromancers and such with 'great vengeance and furious anger' (lol). I can lose half a real day, just wandering, hunting, whackin' baddies and exploring, paying no attention whatsoever to quests, and making my own story. Btw, if you have underwater breathing, swimming the entire northern coast is worth the kicks. There are more than a few wrecks in the deep. Yeah, roaming is worth the price of admission to me.
I use bandoliers and a bag of holding when I've had my fill of dealing with encumbrance...all depends on my mood and how I'm playing a character. I like having them available for when I want them.
I'm with you, though. Carriages are for milk-drinkers. Walking is where it's at. You could miss a metric TON of stuff by not walking around. Also, in every new run, the very first thing I do is explore the coast. In my Bosmer run, I somehow got skunked out of waterbreathing until Dragonborn came out. Yay for Deathbrand armor in that regard.
I also explored the coast first in Dragonborn. I highly recommend it. It's a nice way to get a feel for the varying terrain, and to visit all the little islands.
Jules is the man!
And yeah, carriages shmarriages. Approaching a thousand hours and I have yet to ride one. Never even possessed the curiosity to see what happens. I assume it's just the same as quick travel? Quite a noobish question for such veterans as we. Eh, doesn't really matter, no reason to break a good streak I suppose.

Well I find them useful since I use Frostfall and I have fast travel disabled. Sometimes they work to get things done quickly.

To be fair, I've never ridden a carriage either. I don't see the point. I either walk or fast travel.
As useless as it is, I still buy one for my home. You know, gotta represent. I use fast travel too, but only in areas that have been fully explored. Remember traveling through an area for the first time on the way to a mission? "Okay, Gildergree....oh, is that a cave? Oh, I have to check out that ruin!" Priceless.

During my first playthrough I never used a carriage (I mostly walked whenever I headed towards a new area). It wasn't until I was well into my second playthrough when I found out that you could use the carriage to travel to an undiscovered hold, and since then, I've used the carriages to get certain characters to particular cities in order to quickly start quests in other holds.
In general, i agree that normal travel is the most fun due to the exploration and encounters (especially during your first playthrough), but if you're roleplaying a particular character (such as a non-Dragonborn thief), using a carriage to initially get yourself to Riften is pretty nice.

It would be cool if you could actually just chill and ride in the carriage and watch the scenery. But its just fast travel you have to pay for, so I think I only used it about once, really early on before I had gotten to some of the major cities.
I would LOVE that if possible.

I can't see myself riding a carriage in skyrim for more than about 30 seconds before the urge overtakes me to get up and tell the carriage driver to stop because I saw a patch of Tundra cotton that I need to pick, or a Saber Cat that needs to die, or a bandit patrolling the walls of a fort we just passed.

Well damn.
I just realized something last night.
Every faction leader dies when you join.
Kodlak, Mercer, Aren, Harkon, and Astrid.
The only ones who avoid it are the Bards and Isran.
I mean damn that is a pretty spotty thing to put on your resume.
"Most leaders end up dying pretty soon after I join the guild really..."
Do what I do. Blame it all on the Thalmor, whether they're known to be involved or not.
Oh the Silver Hand killed Kodlak and Skjor? The Thalmor leaked the info about the Companions to them.
Oh Astrid was betrayed by the Empire? The Thalmor wormed their way into the Empire's mind and told them to betray the DB.
Forget facts. Take out all of your rage on the Thalmor! Blame them for everything!
"I stubbed my toe?! Damn the Thalmor for this!"

I've looked at those carriage ride mods, but I've never downloaded any, simply because the scenery in Skyrim is more than just fun to watch. It's also constantly screaming at you to interact with it.

Saw this mod on a gamplay vid, and while I could pass the local foliage w/o the need to stop (ie; not personally invested in Alchemy), it would all but impossible to ewmain inside the carriage for such a scenic tour. And it was that vid that firmly set my decision against using it, or others. But it is out there as an option.
Fast travel for me is fine; really depends on my mood at the time. I like the exploration, but am not thriled with oft repeated trips. And occasionally, I only wish to advance the storyline, and not deal with angry critters snapping at my heels.
What has improved for me is Mounted Combat. Since the DG patches, being able to fight and defend one's self from the saddle has helped riding quite a lot. I still prefer to dismount for the larger foes, but am more willing to battle animals, bandits, and the occasional troll from the back of Shadowmere.

Alduin -> Harkon -> Inflated housing market prices -> Miraak -> ?
Its interesting to think that any threat that raises its head soon gets smashed by the PC.
Oddly by them all trying to kill you.
I would love a DLC where the big bad OFFERS you a job ...for variety's sake at least.

I think the last DLC will have us fighting some sort of "god" creature like Jyggalag in the Shivering Isles. The Dragonborn is already a one person army and all the additional perks you will get over the next two DLCs will want to make me fight something outrageous!

The carriage is the last thing I buy for Hearthfire homes, and usually, I end up not doing it at all. With the sheer frequency of attacks at the homestead, I just don't want to have to worry about one more person. It would be cool, though, if your kids, spouse, or whoever would load up in the back of the carriage, and get to safety.KBomb wrote...

I'm also a little sad that Shadowmere won't use the stable. Dang it, horsey, I bought it for you!
