In a few hours it will be morning in Germany - hopefully we will see something from Gamescom.

Naughty ok I understand now. I was going to buy that sword before but than when I thought about it I thought now thats dumb cause you might be destroying good weapons. I appreciate your clearing that up for me.

Chunky you getting itcy waiting for Skyrim to finally bw released on 11//11? Heck I'm still working on getting through Oblivion the first time. Ok so I'm a late bloomer with this one give me a break. When I bought this game I didn't realize that Bethesda had put out such an in depth game like they did with Oblivion. Other games don't compare to Oblivion I'll say that right now.

Try Gothic 3 (with latest Community patch, of course).

If it's as in depth as that of oblivion is I doubt I'll have that chance to. I'm learning that I've barely scratched the survice of this game and there is lots more to explore. And I've got ES III sitting here that I've not played and Skyrim Pre ordered. I think maybe I bit off a little more than I could chew with these games.<LOL>

How many of you use heavy armor in the game? Thinking maybe I should have gone with light armor as I didn't relize how much impact it made on the weight for which your carrying. I'm used to games like DA for which don't have that as an issure. Sure kills what I can carry.<LOL> I think if I play through the game again I'll go with Light armor do to the weight.

I hope so, it seems they want to announce and release more then what was just at QuakeCon.   Although im assuming much of it will be what we see from multiple demo plays.  It may be hard to sift through all the articles again.

LOL the same exact thing happened to me, Redneck1st!

I was just looking around for some FO3 mods on tesnexus and I learned about Oblivion. I bought the game on sale to try it out and I was completely blown away. It became my all time favorite game.

Later on, toward the end of last year, I installed around 200 mods including FCOM, Duke Patricks, Deadly Reflex, Qarl's texture pack, etc., and it was like a brand new game. I've been playing Oblivion for years and still haven't even touched the main quest yet, or finished some of the guild questlines.

A couple of weeks ago I started playing Morrowind, which is also an excellent game.

Hope I have time to finish both games before November!

In the vanilla version of the game, yes, except for a few powerful magic items that do not scale.

most items are scaled down if you are low level and scaled up if you are high level

Hmm sounds like that might prevent some folks from exploring early on.

Now the items for which are scaled down if you are of a lower level and you find them does that mean that they will scale back up when you get up higher levels? Or do they stay at what they were when you found them? Also what factors determine level increases in the game?  I figure that your kills do but how about things like your major and minor skills and your abilities?

Unfortunately that's one of the biggest problems with Oblivion's level scaling system.

There are some really powerful items that are severely gimped if you find them when you are low level, and they stay that way, even if you increase in level.

There are mods that fix this by making these items fixed, so they don't scale and there are other mods that fix it by making the items increase in level with the PC.

Your major and minor skills don't really affect the level of loot, just your character level.

Here is a list of all the leveled magic items in the game: link

In addition, the sigil stones that you get from closing Oblivion gates are leveled as well (the highest level, Transcendent Sigil Stones, are only available after you are level 17)

Level 1-4 - Descendent
Level 5-8 Subjacent
Level 9-12 - Latent
Level 13-16 - Ascendent
Level 17+ - Transcendent

Well yes I realize that they major/minor skills don't effect loot but do the affect the players level itself ? Also are the quests in the game leveled to the character Level?

As you increase your major skills, it increases your character level. You get a message saying "I should rest and reflect on what i've learned" - then the next time you sleep, your character level increases.

When you level up, you get to choose between which attributes you want to increase. Depending on which skills increased before you level up, you can get a bonus of +1, +2, +3, +4 or +5 to certain attributes.

Before increasing your character level, if your Block, Heavy Armor, Armorer skills increased a lot, then you can choose to increase Endurance +2, +3, +4 or +5, which increases your Health at level up.

If your Conjuration, Mysticism, Alchemy skills increase, then you can choose to increase Intelligence more, which increases your total Magicka

If your Alteration, Destruction, Restoration skills increase, then you can choose to increase Wisdom more, which increases the rate of your Magicka regeneration.

The other skills affect other attributes.

Ok now I fully understand what is going on here. So it's not so much to do with the monsters or enemy killed so much as your 7 major skills. Will have to admit that this is different than most other games of this type.<LOL> Now at what level would you start seeing your major skills at say Apprentice or Journeyman abut 7 or sooner?

Yes basically if you have heavy armor, athelitics, Acrobatics, and blade as example, just run jump, hit things with your sword, or be hit, and dundundun level up. You can kill a million units with magic for example, and if its not one of the major skills you have, then, doesn't matter.

The reason for which I was asking is I'm level 6 Darkmage<aka:dunmar> and my Major skills are close to being Journeyman does that sound about right? I thought that it you would have to be a higher level than that there.

Dang it.  I had my characters planned and now the Argonians look completely badass and threaten to cause me to re-plan everything.  Sighs.

That's Oblivion's biggest downfall. If you frequently use your major skills, you will gain new levels fast and will have very minor bonuses to attributes on each level up. Conversely if you mainly use untagged skills, you will level much slower and achieve much better attribute modifiers with each level up - leading to a much stronger character overall (especially that enemies gain levels together with you).

So in a sense it's usefull to create the opposite of the class you actually want to play (except race and birthsign).
