I have a questing for you folk who have dawnguard. How bad are these random vampire attacks inside towns? Do NPCs get killed often? And there is any way to stop them for good? I already hate NPCs getting killed by random dragons. I don't need that added by dawnguard.

Just don't accept the quest from the orc until you're ready to finish the quest line in short order.  That is, in my experience, you can get a Dawnguard quest opener but as long as you don't say you're going to join then the attacks don't start.

On Master difficulty, I thought that the vampire attacks were pretty rough, especially when you're only level 8 or so. The first time that I played Dawnguard with a new character, they took out Adrianne and Belethor, largely because my attacks at that level just weren't doing enough damage to them in time. Note that this was me entering Whiterun during the morning (around 9-10am); I thought that I would be safe entering during the day, but my advice, once you're level 8 or so, be ready for a vampire attack at any time (so save often).

If you travel to a city during the night, sometimes a vampire or thrall will lean against a wall, making them difficult to see, so when you do visit a town at night, sometimes it helps to hit the wait button to see whether there are enemies nearby.

But yes, the vampire attacks seem to stop after finishing the Dawnguard main quest, although they still occur as random encounters out in the wild (i.e., not within the cities), at least in my case. I'm currently playing through the vampire side for the first time and had no idea that the Dawnguard start to randomly attack me; is it similar to the Dawnguard side in that they stop attacking once I finish the main quest, or do they continue for the rest of the game?

The Dawnguard attacks will continue after beating the main quest. But only in the wilderness and occasionally in small settlements like Shor's Stone. To further diminish their presence in the game take the side quest to kill Isran. Once Fort Dawnguard is in ashes it's supposedly possible to still get a random Dawnguard attack in the wilderness... but I've never had once since.

During the attack on Fort Dawnguard it's also supposedly possible to Calm the merchants inside and buy their gear and spellbooks that are otherwise locked out for you. I never tried it... largely because I've never really done an Illusion heavy character. Vampire Seduction might work.

Started a new character. Wanted to try a custom race mod (and didnt want to use one of those 'races' which are just women). Found a mod that adds a variant of the Khajiit called the Dagi Raht. Apparently they do exist in lore... Anyway, meet Dar'Sufa

Posted Image

As far as backstory goes... She served aboard a ship but was booted off for.. Reasons (Lets just say she has sticky fingers) in Solitude. ONe thing led to another and somehow the Khajiit was headed to the chopping block. She aspires to one day return to the sea, mainly as a pirate of sorts and has no real leanings towards either the stormcloaks or imperials (so long as they keep fighting she can usualy be left alone right? Not like she might be some super important figure who might shape the world around her <_<  )

Ah, alright, that's good to know, especially regarding the Calm thing, since my vampire is based around the Nightblade class from Morrowind (illusion, sneak, daggers, etc.).

Does anyone else laugh hysterically when playing Skyrim? The combat barks for bandits just tickle my funny bone.

Or you can dl this mod - http://steamcommunit...vampire attacks. It forces NPCs in town to run to their homes or the Inns during a vampire attack - guards excepted.

If anyone here doesn't have Dawnguard or Heathfire, they'll both be on sale on Xbox Live Arcade on Dec. 31 for that day only. Don't know what the new prices will be, but I'm planning on picking up Dawnguard if it's at least 50% off.

"Do your worst!!!!!"

Hit them with staff of paralysis, conjure two dremora lords, double Incinerate to the face while simultaneously getting slashed by said dremora lords and their daedric swords with fire enchantments.

Fus ro da the corpse, after looting, of course ;)

I love when they say "What's the hurry?" while getting killed by great critical charge.

Somehow they always say something while a kill cam (most often a beheading) is being played. Hearing a bandit yell how he'll kill you while his head is already flying through the air is... odd.=]

Got to agree,  its driving me nuts as well. Even if they were introduced I probably wouldnt use them because I know its just constant whining that got them put in.

Oh god yes. That's happened to me so many times and it never gets old. During decapitations a few times even.

I also love using Calm on an Orc Bandit and just talking to him as if we're totally not going to duke it out once it's over. And asking him if he can make me blood-kin.

"Trust like that is not freely given."

You son of a....

That some kind of euphemism? :P

Mods, they're the golden path....
I'm looking at Cold/Wet, but I know that'll lead me to Footprints, Hypothermia and Realistic Needs/Diseases.
But I've just had a esp-cull and although I've some I could remove, there's lots that I'd not want to.
Plus some of my characters are realistic and some are not.. and I'm not sure I want to gimp the ones that like to wear what they want and go where they want without caring about time-of-day food/rest etc etc, just to have that extra-RP feel for the others...

... arrrr!

[OC]
F-Merc- "Maybe then you'll have to change from Nocturnal's outfit some time you wanto-"

F-Mage- "How dare you you steel-clad prude"

F-Thief- sniggers

F-Merc- "As for you miss 'beyond thunderdome'"

Male fighter to another- "You reckon we should throw in some jelly.."

Females- Glare
