You might want to look at the elderscrolls wiki red. Normally yes, other things cna change it, and it really doesn't matter I find. More so on fast or slow leveling, I went fast, and so far with my skill pick being a warrior namely short of bosses if I sneak I can one hit anything, or bash some one to death in as little as 4 hits.

Anyways, More so thanks to Raptor Jesus, I still plan to make my first as an Imperial, but I think I'll play around with the options and other races see how many kick ass guys and gals I can make.

As you increase your major skills, it increases your character level. You get a message saying "I should rest and reflect on what i've learned" - then the next time you sleep, your character level increases.

When you level up, you get to choose between which attributes you want to increase. Depending on which skills increased before you level up, you can get a bonus of +1, +2, +3, +4 or +5 to certain attributes.

Before increasing your character level, if your Block, Heavy Armor, Armorer skills increased a lot, then you can choose to increase Endurance +2, +3, +4 or +5, which increases your Health at level up.

If your Conjuration, Mysticism, Alchemy skills increase, then you can choose to increase Intelligence more, which increases your total Magicka

If your Alteration, Destruction, Restoration skills increase, then you can choose to increase Wisdom more, which increases the rate of your Magicka regeneration.

The other skills affect other attributes.

Further to this, there are the two ways to break the level scaling system.

IIRC enemies get either a +7 or +8 to their attribute points when they level up, so if you just grind your main skills and don't make use of the attribute bonuses as you level up the enemies will out level you and the game will get harder.  What you should do is build your class around skills whose use you can use to control when you level up and get +5 to the attributes you want to increase each level, which lets you out level your opponents, and the game becomes easier.

Alternatively, you can pick three skills you'll never use and increase the skills you want to use to massive levels, you won't get cool gear and level up, but you'll be fighting against low level enemies with crappy skills.  I think bosses don't level scale, so those fights will be hard, but the others will be easy.

That's Oblivion's biggest downfall. If you frequently use your major skills, you will gain new levels fast and will have very minor bonuses to attributes on each level up. Conversely if you mainly use untagged skills, you will level much slower and achieve much better attribute modifiers with each level up - leading to a much stronger character overall (especially that enemies gain levels together with you).

So in a sense it's usefull to create the opposite of the class you actually want to play (except race and birthsign).

So what you're saying is that it's better to roll a character for which has Skills you won't use very much as opposed to skills for which you use allot of? But if that is in faact true wouldn't you lose out on allot of the good quest items throughout most of the game?

Just depends on how you want to play. Do you want challanges later on, or easy all around.

Personally I found fast level with skills of a praticular tree that compensates works well. I always only tag three slots repeatidly that fit in well with my play style. And I used magical weapons on ghosts, reflect armor. So I was able to quickly power stack. I can fight numerous enemies at once in the open directly, and they barely scratch me, while I can kill all of them in less than a minute.

Yes, exactly, if you want to play vanilla Oblivion in the most aggressive, maxed out strategical build, you would make all your major skills things that you rarely use, then, for those few specific powerful items that are the most affected by level scaling, it's better to wait until you are higher level to get those items.

But to get the most enjoyment out of your first playthrough, I would suggest just to play naturally and not worry about maximizing every level up. You might it helpful to reduce the Difficulty slider a bit as you increase your character level, because the enemies will be scaled to your level.

Later on, you might want to try using some mods that improve the level scaling system.

Awesome no GFWL. It was one of the many reasons I did not enjoy Fallout 3 good to see it not returning.

Got it things seems to be working well for me currently as I'm a level 5 with nice skills. I think at least. Now I thought that I read somewhere in this thread a while back that you could use two weapons is that true?

In Skyrim yes. Your talking about Oblivion, whose game system will be radically changed in most reguards in Skyrim. So if your asking about Oblivion, no.

Only in Skyrim.

there are some Oblivion mods, however, that let you use a second weapon to block instead of shield

And here I thought that they were talking about Oblivin you could dual weapon. Now will you be able to attck with the off hand weapon as well or Just block?

Deadman the enemy equipment is what?

KenKen oh great just when I'm finally getting use to the way for which Oblivion works I'm going to have to learn everything all over again with Skyrim.

Heck I was over at my buddies house yestarday and he was playing Oblivion as well. Was looking over his world map and I'll have to admit that there has to be a couple of hundred map markers on his map.And he said that they are all explorable areas allot of them with quest attatched to them. I couldn't believe it when he told me that there. Any of you been fully through the game and all areas? And if you have how long did it take you? From what I've seen of his map I'm barely scratching the surface of things.

In skyrim, you can attack with dual weapons, or you can use your offhand to help block.

In vanilla Oblivion, you can attack or block with any weapon, and if you install a mod it adds some new weapon class that can be used instead of shields. Otherwise, you can only hold one weapon at a time.

As far as fully exploring the game, no, I've been playing Oblivion for years and haven't even come close. I haven't even scratched the surface of the main quest, or completed the questlines for Thieves Guild,  Fighter's Guild, Knights of the Nine or Shivering Isles yet, not to mention many others. There are something like 290 different quests in Oblivion and hundreds of locations.

Games for Windows Live. Microsoft tried having a service like Xbox live on Windows and well frankly it's terrible. It causes more problems then solves.

Naughty, I noticed that from my friends map about all the different locations for which there are. Like I said there were more than I could count on his world map. Currently I've just done some quests in Leyawiin and Bravil and I'm headed to Anvil to get the Mages Reccomendation from there. Which will give me my 3rd one for the mages. I figured that I'd do them this time through to get the feel of the game, even though I'm not much of a mage fan.<LOL>

Can you belong to more than one faction at a time? Bet that would even take longer than just working on the one?

And to think that were waiting on Skyrim to be released with so much for which can be done in Oblivion.<LOL> I guess us gamers are never satisfied are we?<LOL>

Using Steamworks instead? Hmm, not my favourite but I can live with that.

Considering that DRM was the one thing that was making me hold off getting excited for the game, I can now activate hype mode. Yay!

Even if you aren't a mage fan, gaining access to the mages guild is worth it for spellmaking and enchanting.

You can belong to all factions at once, I believe. At least in Oblivion.

Looks like Skyrim is going to have Steamworks implemented into it. For those of you who don't know, you have to install Steam to activate the game.

Great, now I'm debating on buying it or not.

Call of Duty is officially interfering with my gaming, now.

Game Stop said they will not be having a midnight release for Skyrim because Modern Warfare 3 is coming out just days earlier and there will not be two midnight releases in such a short time.

Interfering with my gaming, now. Screw you, CoD!!!! Screw you!!!!!!!!!

That suprises me. I would have thought gamestop would want more money.

MW3 will sadly be the same thing bought by the same people.

Call of Duty is VERY popular, and I was remind how popular it was when I saw MW3 for sale on Steam today and 110 of my friends buying it -_-  IMO, MW3 is copy and paste and isn't even a small jump from MW2. I'm surprised, in general, that a game series that became mega-popular only in 2007 is right now more popular than a series that has gained a large following since 1994.

in quest's enemy equipment scales with the player and new enemy's appear, i'm sure it will be the same in skyrim.
