I love it when the vampires kidnap Sybille Stentor and take her to a cave. I leave her there for a good month.

A couple months ago, I began having a crap-ton of crashes and other stability issues with Skyrim. So I took a saturday afternoon to uninstall the game and deactivate all my mods. Then I did a fresh install and re-assessed the mods I wanted to re-activate.... managed to scrap half of them.

Since then, Skyrim has been stable as a giant mountain. I can't get it to crash  if I try.

Not a bad idea. As I have been having some CTD problems recently around Riften, and I have more Saves than recommended, this seems to be a solution that is workable. While I will lose all my current DB's, I have their memories!

You know what? Thank you Bethesda.
For not putting "real romances" into Skyrim.

Dear god its all the BSN talks about.

No a game about saving the world from Dragons does not need a cheesy romance arc.
I know some people love that, but its just kind of silly.

I am not denying that the 10 second relationship romance thing is silly either through.
It is just amazing witnessing all the people who obsess over blooping the bleep out of some pixels.

Besides I dont think someone  who has killed 3500 people is probably going to be that good of dating material.

^ Thank the Nines for that. Posted Image

I like a good romance and all, but with some of the romance overkill I've witnessed around here, it just makes it sound more and more like The Sims to me. Find someone to "Woo Hoo" with, and try to imagine what might be under that blur. Yikes.

Oh, and don't forget the procreation. Because everyone is just dying to seed their spawn.

I think this is true of most video game protagonists, not just Skyrim's :D

That is something I find odd about most games. How casually you commit violence and how easily your character moves from fight to fight. Someone who is that comfortable around killing might not be the best family material.

PC: "By honey going to go slaughter a few dozen people and take their stuff!"
LI: "Sure thing sweety can you bring back some flour from town?"

I mean great sitcom material....poor marriage material.

I'm still curious why you can't marry a Bosmer or Khamiit. I mean, the kitty I sort of get (don't think about their biology too much), but why not a Bosmer?

Well, not that there are too many Bosmer I'd actually want my Dragonborn to marry.

Those people that died attacked first. Self-defense. And their bandits...I rather them attack me, a dragon killer, than a family or someone who can not defend themselves

I know a game that makes you and the main character think a lot about killing, Spec Ops The Line. Now that game seriously questions why you're killing and you don't feel too good about it.

That's the funny thing about games. People find the most abnormal things normal, and the more mundane ones bad. Decaptate an person? Fine! Beat someone mindlessly in a fist fight? You got it! Sacrifice someone for an bizzare cult? No sweat. But then.... court someone into a relationship? No way! Have an normal stable life? Are you crazy? Get married and have kids? Not in a million years!!
Is it really that bad trying to be normal from time to time? I don't really ask for an romance that can fill a story book. I just want something that feels meaningful.

All I was saying was that I was glad that Bethesda did not implement a "romance arc" like Bioware does. I mean come on all a romance arc in a game really is, is:

Meet someone - Get to know them- Do something for them- Know them some more - Show interest - Bloop Bleeps. THE END.

I mean Skyrim does not really need romances in it to be better. Sure they add RP potential to the game, but they also absorb resources that can be spent elsewhere?

What would more people want? A few romance arcs for RP?
Or more in depth work on other quest lines?

In the end they are an interesting idea, they just really dont work all that well in an open world game. Skyrim has no set structure to follow outside of quest lines. So a romance arc would just come off somewhat silly in it.

It's not that hard. Serana herself is almost an romance arc. Just add some marriage dialogue and you got it. But Bethesda instead chose to actually make her turn you down. To me it almost feels like they are afraid to add an character with full romantic story arc rather because they don't have the "resources" for it. (Seriously, what kind of resources you guys are talking about? As if adding 10 extra lines of dialogue was that troublesome), either that or they are just plain cruel.

Maybe because they dont want to put romance in their game?

I mean it really does not add anything all that vital to a game.
I actually found it amusing that Serana does that.

Its interesting to witness an NPC who does not swoon just because the almighty PC shows interest in them.
I LOVED it when Ashley/Kaidan dumped Shepard in ME1 if they were in a love triangle.

Besides maybe she just does not want to get married a month after she got let out of stasis?

I don't know sometimes it depends with romances IMO. Mass Effect and Dragon Age weren't all that appealing IMO especially because they didn't feel that real and honestly I truly do NOT understand why BioWare's fans treat romances like if they were an essential part of their games. They are not necessary and are nothing more than something extra.

I don't think romances fit Skyrim or Fallout.

Every once in a while somebody starts a thread on Bethsoft forum asking for romances, and the natives burn the poor fool alive.  It's amusing.

^that happens on the Project Eternity forums at Obsidian too. The sadist in me enjoys the show sometimes.

What I find amusing about such lynchings though (at least in the case of Project Eternity discussion) is that the mob, almost universally, seems to see romances in games as a symptom of RPG modernization.   Say what?  There's been romances in RPGs for..well, forever. BG2 had them. Planescape Torment had them. And make no mistake about it...even way, way back then these romances were ridiculously popular. To the point where the masses  always wanted more. There were hundreds upon hundres of mods to expand them, and add more of them.

I think it's a lot creepier in the days of the cinematic uncanny valley. Those smooching noises...

This is the type of romance arc I want to see more of from Bethesda.

-suspense
-mystery
-drama
-tragedy

I laughed, I cried.  It was truly one of gaming's finest moments

Yay, Dragonborn is up for pre-purchase on Steam! Although, pre-purchasing will make the gap more unbearable so I'll leave off for a while.

Anyway, when did Steam start putting pre-purchases on DLC?

Just pre-purchased and clicked INSTALL about 10 times.  I've got plenty of other stuff to do for the next week.
