It is like Riften had someone writing it who was just to lazy to write a second path to take.

It would have been awesome to be a spy taking down the Thieves Guild and Maven.
Sadly no we have to let Maven and her brood run amok.

At least we can kill most of the Silver Bloods and their ilk in Markarth.

The worst part is what happens when siding with the empire and putting her on the throne. I hate having to do that, and I almost always side with the empire.

Yeah, and I have to deal with the head of the Silver blood family becoming the new Jarl of Markhath because I sided with the Stormcloaks. These guys developing Skyrim really should take a note from the Fallout games. They aways have an good guy path for pretty much every quest. I wish I could have betrayed the guild an take the skeleton key for myself.

That would have been a nice option to have. Mjoll being 'invincible' could suggest that there may have been the intention of letting the player destroy the Thieves Guild (along with the comment about how the Riften Guard didn't have the resources to destroy the Guild themselves because of the civil war), but that it wasn't implemented for some reason. I know Skyrim had certain quests and goals that had been dropped for some reason or another, like killing Jarl Elisif the Fair for Boethia (and having Erikur take over as the new Jarl of Solitude).

The Whispering Door was also cut.  Seemed to be a really good one.

from http://elderscrolls....Whispering_Door

When inspecting the quest of The Whispering Door more thoroughly with help of the Creation Kit, it is revealed that the quest was intended to be far more dark and elaborate. Unused scripts and packages hold references to all of Balgruuf's children having been intended to fall under the manipulation of Mephala. One unused script named SF_DA08 Frothar Kills Horse Scene[/i], shows that Frothar was meant to kill a blackhorse at the stables named Karinda, (currently an unused horse NPC). An accompanying script is namedSF_DA08 Frothar Listens To Ebony B[/i], referencing to Frothar falling under the control of Mephala much like Nelkir has, meant to occur at one point during the quest, with Ebony B standing for the Ebony Blade through which Mephala makes her voice heard.Another script is titled SF_DA08 Children Kill The Jarl Scene[/i], where Balgruuf's children were meant to gather at an undefined waypoint in secret, to commit patricide (possibly with the Dragonborn's aid as the script calls for removing Balgruuf's essential state) against their own father. An accompanying interaction package is named DA08 Balgruuf Wait To Die In Scene[/i] where Balgruuf is present at an undefined place as to be murdered.Upon Balgruuf's death, Hrongar was meant to replace Balgruuf as Jarl. Attached to his NPC is a lot of unused dialogue parallel to that of Balgruuf, meant to be used in the civil war quests and main quests. The dialogue varies from that of Balgruuf in that Hrongar takes a more aggressive approach towards the problems at hand.If you start the quest and leave it, and then do the March on Whiterun quest, Balgruuf will no longer be Jarl and the quest may be lost.[/list]

That would be pretty interesting, in a disturbing way. But I can see why they would cut it. Having children in Skyrim is already controversial enough. Having them actually killing people would probally go too far.

The Thieves Guild is probably my favorite faction in Skyrim. I like several of its members (Brynjolf, Karliah (former, anyway), Delvin, Vex, etc.), and the quest line sends you all around Skyrim. I also enjoy how the guild formally recognizes your attainment of Guild Master in-game (when they gather in the Cistern), in contrast to the Companions and College where at best the members simply comment on it (which the Thieves Guild members also do). I also like how Maven is this influential and untouchable individual; she's undoubtedly vile, but I also find her interesting.

With that said, I prefer to join the Thieves Guild with a non-Dragonborn character (i.e., a character that I do not plan to pursue the Main quest line), due to the Nightingale duty in the afterlife.

Daedric lords never seem to stop amazing me with their schemes. The Jarl's own children murdering him, I guess Irileth said that for a reason.

The Thieves Guild questline provides the most ironic moment in Skyrim and perhaps the entire Elder Scrolls franchise.

Listen to Vex when she learns Mercer stole everything from their vault :wizard:

Funny; all that over one of the weakest items in the game. It really is best left in place; simply wish we could discipline that  mouthy child.

^ Yeah, I go out of my way to do stuff for Daedric Lords. Probably sounds crazy, but I'm amused by the thought of them fighting over my Dragonborn's soul. Image IPB

BWAHAHAHA!

So here I was walking outside of Riften jail after talking to Maven's brat then I walked out of town.
Then I notice a sewer grate and check it out.

Turns out it leads back into jail so I just walked right back through jail again.
That was actually one of the most random moments in my entire career I must say.

I love the Thieves Guild. Nightingale Armor set is awesome! I love Bretons though, the only other race I can play is Redguard. My first Morrowind character was a Redguard. I had to stop playing him when the map disappeared, though...

Bretons and Dunmer make excellent Vampire Lords! One is Resistant to Magic, and the other to Fire; both being helpful boosts to shore up weaknesses.

Can't find the link to it at the moment, but I remember reading Lawrence Schick, the "Loremaster" for the Elder Scrolls, saying that the reason none of the lore makes any sense in the MMO is because all those single player games are just myths and legends, and that the MMO has all the real lore. So none of the lore from previous games is canon according to this. Looking for the link now. Hope I misread him...

You probably did misread him. Lawrence Schick and the rest of Zenimax Online have a lot of space to create whatever he wants since the time frame chosen for ESO - the Interregnum - has little lore. It doesn't interfere with Bethesda's games because ESO is set hundreds of years before.

Also, there's no internal coherence in ES lore. All the "canonical" stuff is inherently contradictory. Lawrence Schick can write his own interpretation of Reman I's ascendancy and it's going to be as valid as Bethesda's own.

Very well. Don't know why I even posted in the first place, I don't plan on playing it. Just something off putting about seeing Argonians sharing a faction with Dunmer...

Your feelings are perfectly valid, especially when Morrowind lead you to believe that the Dark Elves and Argonians are mortal enemies since forever. So, it is hard to imagine why Argonians would join in a pact with their mortal enemies when House Dres constantly raid Black Marsh for slaves.

So, the alliances are artificial, and the only thing that could make sense is if Zenimax Online plays them out as doomed and foolish endeavors from the start. The only organization that lasted by the time Tiber Septim arrived is the Aldmeri Dominion, and according to the First Pocket Guide, the Elsweyr Confederacy was not listed as part of that alliance.

Yeah the Breton-Redguard-Orc alliance isn't any better. All three have a history of violence against each other. Still not as weird as seeing Dunmer and Argonian, though...

War makes for very strange bed-fellows.

I guess they just wanted to do 3 vs 3 vs 3 though.
Then again Tamriel is a land where people back stab and betray and ally with other groups all over the place.

The Dwemer and Dunmer HATED each other yet both worked as one to repel the Nords.
More to the point though its like a thousand years before Morrowind so you cant use it as the defining thing about TESO

It's not foolproof, but it helps to drop the item (anywhere), exit the house, then come back in and place it where you want it.  Something about the game not having memory where objects are.  Stuff will still move around, either on its own or because an NPC bumps it or when the house re-spawns its junk.

Hum, I wonder how it works... this guy in this video for example surely knew how to do it:

www.youtube.com/watch

Look at all the potions he placed at the tables, statues, gems (damn, that's a lot of them!) and etc. There's gotta be a trick to place items in the houses permanently. Well, I'll try your way, see if it works.
