I hope so. It saddens me whole Thalmor/Empire/Nords of Skyrim love triangle hasn't been getting even more attention. It makes a pretty well assembled mess where seeing either nords or the empire as having the wrong of it is surprisingly dififcult. (once one gets over the whole nasty beheading business) I would have been perfeclty  happy had the ciwil war+Thalmor been the main storyline of the game. Admittedly  DRAGONS makes a bit cooler E3 trailer material than SOCIAL-RELIGIOUS CRISIS though;p

Hearthfire. Goddamnit. I don't mind them taking what few hundred free mods do and putting 10 dollah pricetag on it. It would have been cool had Beth figured doing so at least gives them bit of an obligation to provide stuff superior to the said free mods in quality though. I didn't expect being able to design my own home. Engine has it's limits and all I guess. But.. "Oh so you want a house with library? Wellp, NO KITCHEN FOR U"  That's pretty rich.  Luckily there are mods that fix this.

Hearthfire was $5 dollars and next week for PS3 owners it will be 50% so $2.50 in the US. Not a bad deal for console owners who can't use mods.

True enough. Still, it is an official addon by Beth sold for moneys. I would assume it is question of integrity to manage something that doesn't look bad when compared to number of mods prodiving identical content.
Just finishing building my lakeview manor. By far best looking room I have there is a player made extra kitchen. There is something little bothersome about this., really:p

Actually, for utility purposes and for what it adds to the main game, I appreciate Hearthfire more than I do Dawnguard.

And to dismiss it as "identical"  to the various house mods is a bit dishonest. Hearthfire has Adoption, a whole new list of cooking recipes; new ways to harvest alchemy ingredients, 3 new housecarls, and 3 new spouses.

Who are the new spouses?

I much like the main concept behind it as well. I think in the long run, DLC that blends in as a part of the main game, widening them pipes and enrichening them tastes can make more valuable addition than some more or less seperate modest-in-length plot oriented attachment. (not that Skyrim DLCs were that modest in length at all)

IMO execution here is undeniably pretty ****ty though.

I challenge you to find a custom house mod that
A) has over 300 downloads
B) has even ONE room room that looks like the modder had spend less time and effort in designing it than Beth seems to have spend on Lakeview manor's interiors.

Unfortunatelly this is much more difficult than it should!

It's 5 bucks, so I really wouldn't complain.  There's a crapton of content for that amount.

'ed

BTW, for lore junkies, the little Alternate Reality Game that's been going on in the lore forum this week which I posted about has yielded a new MK teleplay.  It's MK, so be prepared for delightful weirdness.  It's like Star Wars or Dune but set in an alternate-reality, early Cyrodiil, back when it was still jungle.  I really enjoyed it, and also the essay/ reflection Tsirelsyn's Bound.

Agreed. My eldest offspring helped me build my house in Hearthfire and we had a lot of fun. OK, so it added some choices between things which was uncharacteristic, but they are fairly easy to fix if you don't like them.

Overall, I go to my house a lot even if it isn't absolutely perfect. Could never get Hearthfire and/or Dawnguard (can't remember now) to work with the Hobbit Hole or Wooded Oaks, though. :(

I left it a while before installing Dawnguard so I could enjoy Hearthfire. Glad I did.

If I'm going to dual-wield I usually  choose Daggers or  Swords for their speed.  If I'm using a shield, then swords and axes.

But note:  The 75% armor ignoring that blunt weapons get is not  nearly as great as it sounds.  The vast majority of enemies in this game have crappy armor ratings anyway.  Very rarely will you ever see bandits wearing anything better than Iron or steel.  And Draugr all wear light armor.   And No enemy wears improved armor.   The result is that the armor-ignoring perk will, at best, let you do  a pitiful % of extra damage.  Barely enough  (if even) to make up for their slower attack speed.

Hmm, but maces also get a higher force stagger modifier. That could potentially be important. Just 0,1 lower then a two-handed sword. I remember that with my first characeter, a greatsword wielding orc, I staggered enemies with power attacks and usually sent then on their knees left, right and center.

Haven't really used one-handed maces though. Seeing how there's the Chillrend and Nightingale Blade.... kinda shame really that the best one-handed swords are only obtainable on the Thieves Guild questline. Plus Dawnbreaker is a sword as well.

But in general sword & board combat felt tedious and kinda weak to me... dual-wielding simply chaotic and the fact that you can't block really sucks.... IMVHO two-handed, archery or an assasin's dagger are the way to go!

So quick question:
In the one handed tree do you guys prefer Maces, Axes, or Swords?

I am thinking I will go for maces this time around I really like the 75% armor ignoring ability.

In general w/ RPGs, I tend to use weapons for more roleplay reasons than mechanical ones.  Which usually works fine because the RPGs I played (outside of 1st edition D&D Unearthed Arcana) give little incentive to specialize.  In Skyrim, none of the specialization perks are mechanically worth taking.  Crits (swords) ignore any and all modifiers, few enemies have high armor ratings (maces), and many enemies don't bleed (axes)...although for the ones that do, the axe perk can make a notable difference.

That being said, if you're dual-wielding, it's hard not to butcher the bad guys not matter what you use once you've got the power-attack & speed perks.  Although the inability to block is quite noticable until then.  I like axes for the aestetics.  Maces just look ugly.

For sword & board, bc/ you can quickly stagger anything with your shield, just use whatever weapon is best/coolest.

I used a mace in my first playthrough, and switched over to swords/greatswords in every subsequent playthrough.

Now that I've gotten back into playing this first character again, I'm finding that I actually do enjoy maces. Quite a lot. There's just something very satisfying about that heavy "thunk", and killcam showing you busting an enemy's head in.

This character uses just one mace, though. Magic in the other hand.

I think I prefer it to be honest using maces.

Because I find it odd how swords and axes don't really cut anything besides heads.
Also I am not going to wear Dragonbone armor for much longer I think it is just so fugly.

However I am finding that the mace kill on giants is BAMF, especially because it looks like you shattered its jaw.

^ Ooh, I haven't tried that out yet. This character is using a Dragonbone mace. Not the prettiest mace in the world, but it will do. Much better than the Stahlrim one.

Although I will say, Stahlrim swords look pretty cool with the Chaos enchantment - it gives the sword a purple glow.

And P.S. Giggles - I hate Dragonbone armor, too. Dragonscale I love, but they really missed the mark on Dragonbone. I don't much enjoy the Bonemold stuff either.

Most of the armor in Skyrim is a bit over done.
The joints would actually make it easier to get a weapon into them, or not give you full range of motion.

The PAULDRONS are to big and would limit your ability to turn.
I mean once you get past steel most of the stuff starts getting a bit impractical.

Like Daedric armor...I mean you can easily poke yourself on that stuff.
I know it is nit picking but I find myself wishing the armor in Skyrim was not so over done.

It looks like you're on a PC (your game registrations).  There's a mod that removes the enchantments from nightingale and another that removes its mask.

Problem for me is that he retextured the armor to silver.  If you want to keep the red texture, just install the mesh.

What level would you guys recommend to start Dawnguard and Dragonborn quests? I am playing with an archer/ranger type without magic (casting or enchanting) on master difficulty.

Thanks

I think they are both mid- to higher level.  But you could travel to Solstheim at lower level, if only for the traders in Raven Rock.  It's in the MQ of the DLC's where there are some tougher enemies.
