What level would you guys recommend to start Dawnguard and Dragonborn quests? I am playing with an archer/ranger type without magic (casting or enchanting) on master difficulty.

Thanks

I recommend you start Dawnguard as soon as you're ready just be sure to help Sorine with her crossbow design.  You also have a powerful companion forced on you for most of the quest.  You're on your own as far as Dragonborn.  I did it pretty late because my character was waiting for the DLC for quite some time.

DG - 20th+; DB - 40+

Personally, I did not take my three hour tour for Dragonborn until 60th, but this is a different build than usual, and was lacking some desired Shouts.

And I am back to solo again. While Frea is better than the Vanilla followers for me, and lacks some of the irritating habits of Serana, she still likes to rush into the LOS, traps, and battle. Plus her dialogue is not as entertaining as Serana.

What is more bothersome for play is the scripted interuptions and planned side treks she makes. I was enjoying her waiting for traps to be disabled, and for cues to become involved in combat, then all of a sudden she rushes down a hole, takes the lead to an objective, or goes off on her own without much a chance for me to follow. And this was written that way! Sorry, but the AI for Skyrim really could use a fix.

Did you guys retake or defend Thirsk Mead Hall? I just helped the Nords, but now I'm going to reload and help the Rieklings

@ Elhanan - there is a mod that prevents companions and summons from springing traps. Absolutely essential!

Lol Serana every fight:
"Where'd you come from!"
Rushes to resurrect the guy I just killed
Blocks my next shot
Gives up our advantage.

Last p/t I made her use Dawnbreaker while I kept using shadow warrior to keep the undead focused on her. It was funny because when she turns herself, she goes invisible and runs away. Then I can do my job.

I helped the Rieklings since they are way cooler than lousy Nord Bandits.

Yep; have seen it in use on the LPS vids. But while giving followers Lightfoot to bypass such hazards, they still manage to fall off stairs, run into rocks, break trip wires, and generally get in the way. Solo is simply much easier for me..

I helped the Nords in my first run, and felt really, really awful about it. Dirty, even. No choice is a good one, and Bujold and her milk-drinker friends really don't deserve my Dragonborn's time.

Helping the Rieklings has turned out to be quite awesome, indeed. Those little guys show up at random times to help during combat. Sometimes a group of them will wait for us by dungeon exits, hopping around, all cute as hell.

They're not particularly useful or reliable, but it's a fun little random thing that puts a smile on my face. Image IPB

He's been watching you since you defeated Miraak and is impressed with your progress.

I helped the Nords and didn't rat out Bujold.  So I have a question.    In that Barrow thing where you talk to the "warrior spirit", there's this glowing Axe.  If you do rat her out, does the game let you take that axe?

God I hate Markarth

There is literally nothing pleasant about that entire city is there?
If there is any city I would choose to live in it is probably Ivarstead.

At least there is not a cannibal cult, an shrine to a daedra god, a slave using mine, and lots and lots of violent crazy people.

I feel like I need a shower after visiting.

Don't forget about the creepy dwemer ruin the city is built on just teeming with Falmer! Markarth is a cesspool. I still have the cannibal quest forever unfinished in my log. The house is nice though and I like Senna in the Temple of Dibella. Dedicating a child to a godess of sexual love was a bit weird though.

They're so cute, but Bethesda had to go and make the Thirsk smith a sexy dark-haired Nord.

Does anyone have a song they think fits their Dragonborn?
If I had to use one I would say its "The Hero" by Amon Amarth.

Then again my guy keeps doing things that are not very mercenary.
Like frying Grelod the Kind.

Here is my dude:

Finally got 100 in a magic skill besides conjuration...and found the Four Skull Tower for the first time after 1200+ hours to do the destruction ritual quest. Nabbed 100 in alteration and destruction. I got Illusion to 98 and have no idea how people get that to 100 as I pretty much frenzied everything and I use a mod that adds lots of extra mobs. What do people do, muffle 24-7?

I don't know, I only just hit 90 in Illusion for the first time. I can't ever hit even that in Destruction, forget Alteration and Restoration.

@ Giggles:  I've always felt like Bethesda subverts their own propping up of the hero as a hero.  The Nerevarine unwittingly brought about Morrowind's destruction, the Champion of Cyrodiil mantles a daedric prince, and Dragonborn pretty much shows your PC for the ambitious greedy bastard he/she most likely is.  One thing I like about Elder Scrolls, there is so much more than meets the eye.

One siggestion is to utilize Courage and Rally during battles that involve friendlies. I dislike having to replay an encounter due to Friendly Fire on my part, and have found these are quite decent spells for Vampire, Dragon, and Cultist attacks in and near the cities. And some healing from Restoration is a good idea, as the temp buffs could wane before allies are stable.

I've just hit 100 in Alteration and Illusion for the first time. Only about 50 in Conjuration though.
Yes, Muffle 24/7 is a good idea, I mean, why not? I keep sneaking everywhere anyways and it helps a ton :) ...but not quite enough. Plenty of Calming... though now that I'm playing an Arcane Archer I don't use it nearly as much.... I use Invisibility a bit more... still, somehow Illusion easily reached 100 naturally.

Now levelling Destruction or Restoration... that's a real pain!

Is there a reliable place for me to find a chaos weapon? Miraak's sword is cool but I'm getting bored with it.
