Nerfing is not a good answer, IMO.
Personally, I leave the Difficulty on Adept (ie; all is fair and even on damage), and add mods that increase the power of encounters (eg; Deadly Dragons, Enhanced High lvl Gameplay. etc). Both sides get bonuses, and it appears to work fairly well.

Extremely Vanilla Destruction Revamp also aids both sides; makes casters a bit more powerful and equal to archers and weapon specialists. This one is on Steam.

Well, they *become* overpowered, once you've taken all the perks, improved your weapon to Legendary+, and then enchanted it with "press A to win" enchantments. At that point, everything dies before it can get to you. Add stealth to the mix and everything dies before even being aware of your presense. (adept difficulty, btw)krul2k wrote...

But Archery is actually fairly weak early on. In the early to mid game you will often find yourself starting fights with archery and then falling back on your melee weapons since they seem more effective at damage dealing and staggering (power attacks) when a combat encounter becomes serious.
Related Side note: has anyone tried using Reikling spears as ammunition for their bows? They're broken. They have no range. You aim and draw your bowstring as usual then release and they fly about 10 feet then go *thump* and land on the ground.

Everything in Skyrim is as OP as you make it via crafting/perks/alchemy/arguable game-engine exploits. Though Destruction less so and dual wielding more so than others.

Remember, not everyone in Tamriel can cast magic. There are carts and ships in Skyrim to transport people and the slit striders in Morrowind. Those poor sods need steam-powered vehicles.
Theoretically everyone can. It's not like in Dragon Age where only certain people are mages and others not. It's a question of training.
I don't want steampunk Tamriel, in the conventional sense. It can be WeirdTamriel, but not conventional steampunk.
Listen to the Arch-Mage at the College. Again, not everyone have the "gifted" ability to learn magic. And, with Destruction magic around, you wouldn't necessarily need gunpowder to make guns. That very same mages could use soul gems to produce an explosion to propel bits of metal in a fashion anyone could use. How did they create soul gems anyway? from crystals?
Skyrim seems more "renaissance" than "medieval". A little steampunk wouldn't ruin the game.

The Forsworn are a bunch of messed-up douches. They're a group of ritual-sacrificing hagraven-worshipping rip-your-heart-out-and-replace-it-with-a-plant lunatics, they're just the lunatics who claim to be the avengers of the Bretons.Splinter Cell 108 wrote...

You mean the Forsworn? They defile Dibella statues. Speculation I've seen is that one of them is Molag Bal, hence his abode being in Markarth. But there are other gods that aren't in the imperial pantheon or daedric princes, lesser gods like Ebonheart and Sai. So it could be one that we haven't heard of.Deviant Ingredient wrote...
@Splinter: I've read all the books I could find on them but none really talk about what Gods they worship, customs, etc..
So far it looks to be a potential mix like Dibella and maybe Hercine but it's hard to say.
Well maybe not worship Dibella but they do have a connection to it some how. They could view her in a different manner than what we're shown. We still don't know what they were planning to do with the Sibyl. Mind you this is all speculation on my part.
I truly don't know what they worship though, I do know that some Reachmen who aren't Forsworn but live in Markarth say that they Forsworn worship Daedra. I believe Yngvar the Singer also mentions that. Their magic and their rituals are a little crazy to be anything but Daedra. Then again the Bosmer worship Y'ffre and they have their Wild Hunt thing.
Have you seen those hagravens doing the briarheart ritual? Weird sh*t right there.

ES already has a little steampunk, the Dwemer. I don't want to see guns and cars in Tamriel.

I have found the combat pretty boring with an archer after level 40+ on Adept. So I have been playing on Master and have been trying some mods to make combat more challenging like Deadly Combat, Duel - Combat Realism, Locational Damage, ASIS, Deadly Dragons and some overhauls like ACE - Combat Skills, Skyrim Redone and Requiem. Be careful though, some of them require the Brawl Bugs Patch installed to not break the brawl quests.

I know they are, that's why I always kill as many as I can when I go to the Reach, a lot of them got their throats ripped by my Vampire lord. Nobody likes the Forsworn, not even the Bretons.

I know I shouldn't complain about it because I don't have to download them, but there are mods that add guns and/or dwemer "machineguns" to Skyrim, which I find utterly ridiculous. Why would anyone put guns in skyrim?

Anyone can theoretically learn magic because of how Magnus departed Mundus. While some may not have the intellect or the fortitude to pull it off, anyone can hypothetically become a mage.

The idea of a linear progression of time and technology, aside from being boring, just does not fit in the Nirn universe at all. Time folds in on itself, it repeats itself in cycles, all the falsehoods are true, etc. Why in a world like that would you limit yourself to pea shooters? Hence why for some reason I love MK's weird sci fi mixing- spaceships and KINMUNE which is basically a rogue AI in Saarthal that turned sentient and the like- but my mind rebels at the idea of some orc running around with a musket.

Yeah, you get to the point with dual wield where Masser and Secunda could drop out of the sky and roll towards you and you could take a relaxed sip of your tea, then shrug them off like mudcrabs.
Not a bad thing though - encourages you to look for other ways of playing.
After crossbow hunting for a while, I have opted for a hammer - the thinking Nord's weapon, and have developed a number of subtle and intricate strategies and gambits.
For Dragons, run at them roaring and hit them with a massive hammer.
For things that fus-ro-dah, run at them roaring repeatedly until I reach them without a knockdown, then hit them with a massive hammer.
For sneak attacks, crouch for a bit, then run at them roaring and hit them with a massive hammer.
Of course, sometimes I prefer the cerebral approach - so I run at them roaring and hit them with a massive hammer in the head.
My beloved other half was watching me play Skyrim the other day and accused me of overthinking the experience.

Sweet! Found my fave new DLC NPC: Neloth the Mage, and he sounds much like Dwight Shultz as the VO (ie; Bodahn and merchants from DAO., Howling Mad Murdoch, Corp Brocolli from TNG, etc). Some really humorous lines; had me LOL when Neloth sent me for tea!
Best character in the game and he has quite a bit of quests that send you to the mainland.
