The stewards do stand around in the upper bedroom. I'm used to odd NPC behavior so I just ignore them.

I have heard the apiaries don't respawn. It takes some in-game time but the alchemy garden should get butterflies, bees etc. I go around and catch all the bees because the buzzing makes me nervous.

If Winstad manor is having issues, disable Real Wildlife...for some reason that interferes.

If you dont have that, disable your mods then see what happens.

Just started building Heljarchen Hall and noticed the grain mill is not automatic like the grain mills on farms like the Battle-Born farm for example. What, didn't think the Dragonborn could spring for that? Think I want to be in the cold, snowy Pale working a grain mill?

And has anyone else had issues with their apiary not working properly? I'm not seeing or hearing bees around it. And in my greenhouse, I don't see butterflies or torchbugs but I hanging moss. I do keep the doors open if that affects it. And weirdly my stewards aren't sleeping in their beds. They seem to like the nice double bed in the upstairs of the main hall, but instead of sleeping on it, they stand next to it. The housecarls don't have this problem. They pick a bed and sleep in it.

@happy_daiz; I've had two horses killed by bandits and lost a chicken to wolf attack. The Steward was nowhere to be found. Erik the Slayer and I need to have a chat. Perhaps he hasn't seen that display case with Uthgerd...

Do you have a Housecarl too? You should have Gregor for Heljarchen Hall, assuming you've helped the people of the Pale. If you don't, I'd recommend talking to Skald in Dawnstar, doing some favors, and getting Gregor. (Also, there's Rayya for Lakeview, and Valdimar for Winstad).

I'm not sure about Erik the Slayer. He seems kind of wussy to me, but I'm kind of partial to a select few followers, so I am probably biased. I haven't ever hired him to try him out.

I also have a bad history with horses, so the only one I ever have is Shadowmere (or Arvak).

If you have the apiary, you must also have Lakeview Manor. I've found that my spouse (in any playthrough) really likes hanging out by the Smelter at that house. I have no idea why. In my experience, it does take a while for bees to show up in the apiary, but I do recall having instances where they didn't show up at all.

Me too. It reminds me of the Amityville Horror or something. Posted Image

I don't have that mod and I did disable all my mods to see if it was that. The house was still missing. It's an unfortunate bug, which I hope doesn't happen again but it doesn't matter, there's other houses anyways.

You're lucky, at least Windstad Manor appeared in your game. I built the house and then realized it was invisible or nothing was ever built so I had to resort to Heljarchen Hall. My steward was also apparently "dead" but then when I used the console to get to him he was in the place where the game keeps the dead NPCs, so I had to make him non essential and then kill him again to get a new one. It was unfortunate too because it Ghorbash the Iron-Hand and I'd prefer him over some boring Imperial.

Sounds horrible. It's like Bethesda doesn't test this stuff out. At least you could semi fix your problem on the PC. I hope that never happens to me on the PS3. I wouldn't be able to. Bet I just jinxed myself.

Maybe a few saves just in case? I heard that DLC can be a little buggy. I know there were a few bugs with building the houses for Hearthfire (at least for the X-Box and the PC) from a few people in this thread. Is the PS3 version different? Are you doing anything to specifically avoid them?

Well, I don't suggest moving Stewards because that's what has caused my biggest problem. The rest are minor and I think players are experiencing those across platforms.

I hired Uthgerd as the steward of one house and moved her with me while I built my second house. She acted as though she were steward of both homes, I couldn't make improvements to my second house but it was cost me money to select to the option, she wouldn't follow me properly, and she was preventing me from hiring a steward to replace her at the first house. So, I had to kill her to get rid of her and fix the bug. Killing a steward is the only way to fire them.

I've had problems with the apiary not spawning bees. I don't see or hear them like I should. My greenhouse isn't spawning butterflies or torchbugs (I keep the doors open so maybe they fly out. IDK) but I do have hanging moss. Workbenches allow me to build things that have already been built and take my resources in the process. Stewards aren't sleeping in their beds, they just stand next to it. But that's about it.

And is it just me, or are goat horns hard to come across? I always need a bunch but a shop keeper sells only about 10. And amulets of Julianos are so hard to find. I save all amulets I come across and have since I started played and have only found one. I'm just going to pay to have my last house furnished.

Yeah, I have two housecarls, Vladimar and Rayya. And three stewards, Erik the Slayer, Adelaisa Vendicci, and Illia. I haven't become Thane of Dawnstar yet. I have the carriage drivers for all homes too.

I'm not sure about Erik the Slayer. He seems kind of wussy to me, but I'm kind of partial to a select few followers, so I am probably biased. I haven't ever hired him to try him out.

Like he said, Erik Green-thumb or Erik Hoe-pusher would've been better names.
But he's friendly and I feel like he could use the opportunity. At least he has Rayya to help him out. She's on point.

I also have a bad history with horses, so the only one I ever have is Shadowmere (or Arvak).

I had Shadowmere, but I can't find him now. Maybe outside the Darkbrotherhood hideout?

Yeah, my Dragonborn's wife just stands there in the space between the smelter and the garden. Strange. And I'll wait a while and see if the bees ever show up.

the Lakeview manor is going to be my family home. once i get Grimsever, I'm going to set up Mjoll as my steward there, to watch over the kids too...just gotta get married first before i adopt some.

my Hjelarchen hall is my "man cave" I have the alchemy tower, enchanting tower, and a library. I have Illia as a steward there... I last saw Gregor fighting a giant before he somehow ended up in Lakeview. [he's gettin' it on with Rayya. ;)]

I heard that Morthal's house is in the middle of the swamp between Morthal and Solitude. i'll probably just keep that one as a simple house for storage.

Winstad Manor isn't in a bad location, really. You can see the Blue Palace from it, and instead of getting an apiary or mill, you get a fish hatchery. Kinda cool, as you can put whatever kind of fish you want in it. There is a family of Horkers that live by it, too. I have to keep my followers in line, or they end up killing them. Sad.

I always find fast traveling there pretty interesting - 98% of the time, there are dead Draugr right at the spawn point. I usually view them as gifts from Uncle Sheo. But recently, those same Draugr have been coming to life. Completely threw me for a loop, since I was so used to them being dead!

As for Mjoll as Steward...maybe on PC you can make that happen, but for the rest of us, she can't be one. At least according to the uesp wiki:

Mjoll the Lioness has the dialogue options to become a steward in the Creation Kit but the options do not actually appear in game.

Lulz  Your game is Haunted.  See if you can lure those draugr to your basement to  do battle with your manniquins

I only have the Lakeview Manor so far with Marcurio as the steward. I'm waiting for him to finish decorating before I bring the kids there as Honeyside is just too small for four people to live in which is a shame because Riften is my favorite city.

I'm not sure who I want as stewards for the other houses when I get around to making them, all the characters I really want as stewards aren't available. Can you just imagine Cicero or J'zargo trying to raise kids while you're away? Actually I'm pretty sure any kids my Dragonborn raises will become messed up on some level.

I imagine  it'd be  no different than any of of the other potential stewards.

Kid:  Mr. Farkas, tell Braith to stop picking on me
Farkas:  Here kid, take my Greatsword.  It always solves my problems.

Kid:  Miss Aela, Frodnar stole  my doll and he won't give it back!
Aela:  I'll handle this:  ::::shifts to werewolf::::

Kid:  Miss Eola,  I'm hungry!
Eola: Hmm...  so am I....

Brelyna Maryon:  Hey Sofie, I need to practice this new spell. come with me to the trophy room!

Kid: Miss Njada, can we play a game?
Njada Stonearm:    Oh Beat it, kid!

Kid:  I'm bored.
Derkeethus:   Hey, I know....  Lets go exploring.   I know this really cool Falmer cave we can check out.

You can stop horker holocaust with Kyne's Peace shout.  I do it all the time.

Uncle Sheo is the best kind of uncle.  Unless he throws a moon at your city.

It stays put if you re-enable it.

That is what I did.
However you will get the occasional glitched out animal in the wilds, that will attack but wont be animated.
Your choice

out of curiosity guys, how do you play this game?? i mean do you go from settlement to settlement, town to town an just basically do every quest offered to you? or just wander?

i dont know why but i all of a sudden feel really lost lol, i finally became the guildmaster for the thieves an im scratching my head like mmm k now what, i had a notion of sort of roleplaying uniting the brotherhood an the guild under me but i did the brotherhood in the fast playthrough i did and although a good line of quests i felt that there was basically no consequence to the final mission which bothered me alot so it sort of dampens my enthusiasm to go that route.

So im sitting on my porch staring out over the sky lost in thought lol, maybe i'll join the empire see how that goes "scratches head", maybe i'll finish helping delphine "scratches head"

think im being overwhelmed, maybe i should gotto bed rofl

The easiest way to not get lost?

Create a character and RP even before starting Skyrim.
Think about their past, their history, personality, and quirks then play them.

Once you are saying "What would my character do?"
Not "what would I do?"

The game runs much more smoothly.

Exactly! Way more interesting generic, non interesting personality stewards.

Btw, are any PS3 user having a sudden texture issue? For the past hour my character and scenery has been gradually getting more smudged. Also weird glitches are occuring where I fast travel to a location only to teleport over a cliff and die, anyone else?

Anyone know good names for Redguard female characters?

Also, it's been days/weeks and I still haven't finished that Kolbjorn barrow quest.

Here is a good list from the UESP wiki.

I always use UESP when I am looking for TES lore. I dont like the wiki as much really.

I had a Redguard female in Morrowind called Makela... kind of frivolous to have used that name, in hindsight.

She makes up for it with her "Tale of the Tongues" imo.  In my home all she only sings this and plays instruments.

Yes, this song was much better. But Ragnar the Red... I'll have to interrupt next time she starts that.
