Oh my goodness. happy_daiz was it you who said the Windstad Manor Bard was awful? She is! She just sang Ragnor the Red and now my ears are bleeding.

She makes up for it with her "Tale of the Tongues" imo.  In my home all she only sings this and plays instruments.

Yes, this song was much better. But Ragnar the Red... I'll have to interrupt next time she starts that.

Speaking of bad bards rofl.  I never spoke to my targets, I just did my job.

I wish you could actually be a bard in game.

Even if it was just playing music, you could level speech and make money, or play for a Jarl.
Or play a seditious song and annoy the locals!

Sometimes I get the impression Beth had flirted with the idea while game was still in development. So many quite cool  songs in the game, joinable(?)  Bard's college, instruments.  Perhaps some dusty hard drive in some dusty vault has early alpha version of Skyrim where Dragonborn sings people to death rather than just shouts at em:p

I do find the main quest enjoyable, mostly because of Paarthurnax and Odahviing, also Sovangarde. <3 Seriously I stared at that sky for like ten minutes while poor souls were being eaten by Alduin. I make terrible heros.

I joined the Stormcloaks with my current playthrough. I keep trying to join the Imperials  but every time I hear Ulfric and Galmar banter I lose my will to do so. I'm such a sucker for witty, dramatic ****s (I'm a terrible person).

I really wish Balgruuf sided with whoever you side with, bratty kids aside I liked him. I think Bethesda made it too Imperial heavy when trying to balance out the Stormcloak choice.

I actually wish we had an option to kill her. I really don't care about their group anymore. Once Alduin is defeated, they have no use for the dragonborn anymore.

I picked up Hearthfire around Xmas for 200 MSP and even for $2.50 it's a great add-on (wouldn't call this an expansion pack). Didn't get around to playing it until about 4 days ago though.

However, I have to believe this was rushed and that Bethesda didn't even bother to test this DLC. It is the buggiest and glitchiest DLC I've ever played and I'm very disappointed with all the CTD freezes that happens at Lakeview Manor (seems to be caused by your steward, I had to kick her out of my place to the area wouldn't freeze up upon entry); the no re-spawning bees at the Apiary at Lakeview; the no re-spawning Slaughterfish at your fishery at Windstad; the problems with some of the wards like in the Kitchen the Elk Antlers falling off the wall and no way to get them back up there and reloading a save won't fix it; the goat horn sconces not illuminating correctly in all rooms and wings in all 3 houses; the mannequins going invisible or shifting out of place; your kids going invisible; items you place in display cases not staying there and sometimes will fall to the floor when you exit and re-enter your home; the constant problems with workbenches already showing what you've built in all 3 houses, the Armory and Storage Room wings not connecting upstairs and outside correctly (stupid wood fence MOVE!).

That's just a few of what I'VE experienced and there are countless others having problems with this DLC. If someone asked for my recommendation I would say no not even for the 400 MSP ($5 bucks) it costs as the bug/glitches are not worth the hassle. Good idea in principal though.

Anyone else have any stories, or bugs to share with this DLC? It's been out for 5 months and no major patch to fix the freezing and problems with the workbenches which appear to be the biggest issues.

my female Bretons name was Miranda Sirenbane
My male Khajiit's name Oj'Hydt [say it fast enough, it's 'oh ****']
my temporary Argonian's name is Reeks-of-Refuse.

if i can't get Mjoll as my steward, maybe i'll get Ahtar, the executioner of solitude, to steward Lakeview, so that maybe Rayya has company and to not screw up the kids... Khajiit + Argonian =?!?

Hroar: Mr. Ahtar, there's some bandits trying to kidnap the lizard lady...

For me, the non-respawning fish in the fishery, and the non-respawning Apiary are the only two Hearthfire-specific bugs I've encountered with Hearthfire.  The ghost manniquins and stuff  falling off display cases/tables do happen a lot but they  are  Vanilla-Skyrim  bugs that pre-date Hearthfire  by at least a year.  I haven't encountered anything else you're describing.

Actually, Dragonborn for me  is - by far - the buggiest of the DLCs.    The *main* quest is broken.  I can't advance it past the Skaal village because Storn won't read the Black  Black book I gave him.  Also  a good  40%-50% of the sidequests in  Dragonborn  are flat out unfinishable.  Off the top of my head  (this is by no means a complete list), I have the following quests still open because they cannot be  finished:

1) Find Varona   (she doesn't exist.  There's no quest marker, no body, Nada)
2) Unearthed  (the courier came and gave me the letter from Relis.... so  I went to his digsite and....  nothing.  He's still saying he'll send for me when he needs me)
3) Find the hidden mead stash in Raven rock  (same as #1.  it doesn't exist.  no quest marker, no mead stash.  nothing)

Also...

-can't  mine anything in Solthseim.   The animation is broken.    Character just stands there.   I was able to work around this one though.. equipping pickaxes  as weapons and flailing  away at the ore deposit   still works.

-Miraak doesn't steal dragon souls.  Everyone here is  talking about how they kill dragons in Solstheim and then Miraak shows up to steal the souls.  This has never happened  in my game.

-Can't float up and down  Noloth's mushroom house.   Again, the Animation is broken.  Character just stands there.  Have to use the TCL console command to fly up, and  the Become Ethereal Shout to jump down.

Agreed. I like Esbern for the most part but Delphine rubs me the wrong way, kind of arrogant actually and not the fun kind. What makes the Dragonborn so different from a Dragon anyway, besides I'm pretty sure had Paarthurnax been human she'd be totally ok with his crimes because he helped people in the end.

Disable all mods you have. That will fix these two problems.

1 - Varona was also missing in my game; used the console code to moveto player, and that worked. I also tried to move to her location, but that sent me to a small repository of all the dead NPC's in the playthrough; weird.

2 - Never had a problem here; am guessing the Unofficial patches are working for me.

3 - It took forever, but the stash was there: *SPOILER*

Head to the smith's place while facing the path to your house and the Standing Stone; go straight, past the abandoned building, look to your left to see ruins of old locations, and a barrel holding the stash is hidden between them. Hope that helps.

Miraak did not start stealing souls for my game until a certain point in the game; believe it may have been Cleansing the Stones quest. I had to head to the mainland to get the needed fuel for a few Shouts at that point.

The other things were fine in my game. Sorry.

It sounds incompatible mods, but some of the things you mentioned might not be.

Varona and the Wine stash do not have quest markers...you have to search for them old-school and since neither are in obvious places they aren't easy to find.

Miraak doesn't steal souls until a certain point in the Dragonborn quest is reached.  With all the issues you are having, I suspect you haven't reached that yet.

If you are having animation problems it is probably due to Realistic Ragdolls and Force, and/or Custom Skeleton Replacer.

If you disable RRaF it solves a ****-ton of issues in Dragonborn.
Bethesda still just codes for the 360 and never takes mods into account with their mods.

Hearthfire could be borked by Real Wildlife.
Dawnguard could be broken with some mods that altered vampires (Hide in shadows)

Overall it is annoying but using BOSS and WYRE are really handy...like I did not know that mods LATER in the load order would take effect first.
Still Bethesda really needs to hire the guys who made the Unofficial patches to biug fix for them.

If I worked at Bethesda that is what I would try doing, getting modders in early to test for compatibility and to use their talent to bug fix early. Throw in a free copy of the DLC or product and I bet most modders would be more then willing to help.

Am fairly certain Verona does have a marker, but it apparently does not show up on the compass. That said, I gained a level in Alteration using Dt Dead, read walkthroughs and watched vids (reason I believe marker is present) before using the console command to make the fix. Am all but positive she was not there to be found, but there are a lot of dead things around that area.

A similar thing happened to me with Dawnguard.
- Serana was missing animations and will t-pose randomly
- Dexion couldn't read the elder scrolls
- The portal to Soul Cairn couldn't open because Serana was missing the animation to add her blood
- I couldn't get canticle bark due to a missing animation.

All were due to animation mods requiring FNIS that left files in my data folder even after I deleted them.  So check your animation mods and the Nexus forums since I can almost guarantee someone else has your problem.

There's no practical way for Bethesda to take into account mods that only some players might be using. If you use mods, it's up to you and the mod creators to manage compatibility, that is part of the trade-off for user-created content. Don't b*tch about it too much- this is one of the few companies that encourages modding and creating multi-platform games of this size and with so many variables must already be quite a challenge. For all the little problems here and there, Skyrim has been remarkably stable and playable for us, so I'm certainly not going to complain about little problems that are to some extent of my own making.

Disabling all your mods mid-game is not a great idea, though. It will probably cause more problems than if you try to identify one or two culprits.  Especially if you use mods that change scripts.

Miraak will only start stealing souls after you've accompanied Neloth somewhere in the MQ quest line (being vague for spoilers), and before you finish the next quest that Storn gives you.

So, about how much time as everyone spent managing their inventory? The past week its about all I've been doing after getting Hearthfire. Building the homes, furnishing them, moving weapons and inventory, in some cases creating weapons to go in the home and match the overall theme, sorting everything out in containers, etc. It has been an undertaking. I bet I've spent at least 20 hours doing inventory management over the course of this playthrough.

Good for you. After a certain point looting becomes so tedious, I shove everything in the nearest chest. Good idea on making stuff to put on the racks. FYI you'll be getting crossbows soon, I find that they look awesome in the standing weapon racks.

Oh, yes, I saved a spot in the cellar just for those to look great across from a set of Dawnguard armor. I  also saved the foyer for dragonbone weapons.

I placed 3 sets of stalhrim armor and 2 sets of daedric armor in the armory. 2 glass greatswords, 2 glass bows, 2 ebony battleaxes, 2 ebony bows, 2 glass longswords and shield on a plaque, 2 ebony longswords and a shield on a plaque. 1 daedric dagger and 1 stalhrim dagger in the small display cases. 1 daedric warhammer and one daedric bow surrounded by skulls in the large display cases. Elven arrows in the long chest (turning those into sunhallowed and bloodcursed at first chance). A stahlrim greatsword and nordic dagger on the first floor of the enchanting tower, nordic daggers in the room behind the fireplace of the main hall and in the trophy room. Elven longswords and shield on the plaque of the room behind the main hall. Elven longswords and shield and iron longswords and shield in the cellar. 4 pieces of Skyforge steel on the 2nd floor of the Enchanters tower (going to put ancient falmor armor on the mannequin). Dwemer daggers in the main hall and in the upstairs bedrooms. And an Elven battleaxe in the large display case on the 2nd floor. And imperial officer armor on the mannequin next to the display case.

That took forever.I had to make most of it. :(

I put mage staves in the foyer of my alchemy/greenhouse/library home and on the rack in the cellar. The staff of Magnus is in the large display case. Elven longwords and shield on every plaque. Dwemer daggers upstairs, in the foryer, and main hall. Elven daggers in the greenhouse and in the room behind the main hall. Elven battleaxe and warhammer in the large display cases in the greenhouse. Archmage robes on the upstairs mannequin. Generic looking mage robes in the cellar with an enchanted fine hat my character wears. I had to go buy most of those staves in the Dragonborn DLC because I'm not a mage and didn't have them on hand.

I put dragonscale and plate armor in the last house and I'll put dragonbone weapons throughout the house when Dawnguard comes out.

Now I'm sorting out the more mundane items from my move from Proudspire Manor to Lakeview Manor. Maybe I'll finally get back to Dragonborn tomorrow.
