People told "YOU WILL SERVE!" after deciding which side in a Civil War, the Main Quest, etc....

I bet he is being set up for being the finale villain we face though.

Someone on the lore forum was posting for a while in-character as a priest of Maruhk. That's the talking monkey who tried to turn Alessia's pantheon into monotheism and ended up breaking the dragon. Anyway... in one of his posts he claimed that the Nords have always served Hermaeus-Mora and Atmora was named for him, and that's why it was cursed and froze over. An interesting view.

He was also calling the dragonborn vampiric because you suck the life from sentient creatures.  It wouldn't surprise me if there's this kind of mythic development to Skyrim DLCs, tying them all together.  Bethesda writers are a lot more sophisticated than people give them credit for.  I'm convinced nobody does lore meta-narrative like they do.

He has a larger part because the Nords have had problems with him the past.  They say he almost convinced the Nords into becoming the Aldmer, and he was always trying to get Ysgrammor, probably to have him as his champion. I swear, he has got to be one of the most unusual and unknown daedra,  nobody knows what he wants or why he does it. Molag Bal, Boethiah, Mehrunes Dagon and Mephala all have clear intentions and they're supposed to be scarier but they're not.

As for Molag Bal not being there I think I was glad he wasn't there, to me it seems that the connection to vampires and Molag Bal isn't the same as lycanthropes are connected to Hircine. He would have made things more interesting though. 

I'll admit, Hermaeus Mora scares the **** out of me. He seems to harbor a lot of sadistic/angry energy like during the Skaal shaman scene. The thing is did he gift Miraak with DB blood/knowledge or was that Akatosh?

Mephala I'm not sure about either, she sounds a bit like if Boethea and Mora had a baby together or something. I personally think the Night Mother is her, sounds like something she'd do, but can still be debated.

(I still wouldn't want to meet Molag Bal in any case, motivations known or not.)

Told Mora to shove it and brained Septimus.

I know what you mean, the new tentacles really get in my DB's space and from the angle I was at it looked he was caressing her. I couldn't help but shout in my mind, "STRANGER DANGER". D:

Hm, well I just finished Dawnguard. I have to say as great as the new abilities are, which fit my character, I'm kind of disappointed with the ending. Am I the leader of the Volkihar now? They didn't make it very clear other than asking to fix the courtyard...

Also damn the burnt skin glitch! It keeps making my characters face look dark and splotchy.

You know, I started to think about it, and in the end, the dragonborn have no choice but to become the champion of boethiah and nocturnal. All the others can have servitude refused by either dialogue or actions. I noticed in the house of horrors quest that Molag Bal forces the priest of boethiah swear him servitude before killing him, meaning an daedra can only have power over an mortal soul if they promisse to serve them.

Well... yeah, but then again he asks nothing of you once you finish his quest, saying you can stay with the wabbajack and go about your biseness, as he have other things to do. So it's not like you are now his loyal servant or anything.

I killed a random dragon that appeared out of nowhere and I didn't got his soul. I haven't killed any dragons yet that guard those words.

Move your Unofficial Dragonborn Patch higher up in your load order.  After the main files and before any mods.  I had the same issue, hopefully it's yours as well.

Okay I tried what you said, but it sadly didn't work 

Edit: Okay I figured out what was wrong. It seems that the Unofficial Skyrim mod prevent the soul absorbing for some reason.

Is he killable? It offends me that he can't go collect the debt to Tel Mithryn, that damn coward.

If things are still the same, the pattern has already started to repeat itself, Bethesda trademarked the name Redguard, if a patch is released then the next stage would be that someone would identify files related to the DLC and then make the connection. I wonder  if the next DLC will truly be related to the Redguard, it would make sense for Skyrim since the Dunmer and the Redguard seem to be the second largest populations of skyrim.

Makes sense, still, who tells the first DB that they're DB? Is it written some where? Do the dragons know first? Who thought it was a good idea to make a Dragon Priest the first anyway?

I still can't tell if we're merely a Champion to Hermaeus Mora or now will have to serve him which of course leads to the question on who gets the DB soul after they die. I really hope Akatosh gets first dibs and he's just trolling the Daedra.
