Not exactly Skyrim related, but I played Oblivion a long time ago. When I first started playing video games and didn't like it. After getting so used to Skyrim, I'm trying to play Oblivion and wow is it different. I wouldn't say archaic, but it definitely is a little dated feeling to me. Mind you I only started playing video games relatively recently (late 2009, early 2010-ish I believe).

I miss Skyrim's combat system a lot.

Want to see archaic? Play Morrowind without any mods. Image IPB

I can't wait to switch to PC so I can play Morrowind (Modded of course). But I don't know why I didn't like Oblivion at first. For some reason I remembered it being really bad.

I am trying to figure out how to level up though. Don't see how anywhere.

You have to sleep in a bed to level up in Oblivion.

I feel stupid now. But I went from level one to five. Thanks.

Guess I should give my stats.

Breton, name is Blodh-Reona. Sign is The Apprentice specialized as a Mage. Tagged Athletics, Blade, Conjuration, Destruction, Mysticism, Acrobatics, and Light Armor as my special skills. Endurance and Luck where my attributes (something about squeezing out extra levels).

I personally thought it made sense to represent mulling over what you learned, but I still like instant leveling

Alright, I'll bite.  I don't like Whiterun, so I spend as little time there as possible.

1) What is the name of the Inn in Riften?  Bee and Barb....Yep.
2) What is the bard's name who peforms in Markarth?  no clue, but he's a skald...Ogmund.  Dont really like his voice.
3) What is the name of the owner/cashier of the General Store in Solitude?  Sayma, I think- married to Beiran...Good!
4) What is the name of the Jarl's palace in Riften?  Mistveil Keep...That one was knd of easy.
5) What is the name of the blacksmith in Windhelm?  Ongvar... Strong-Shield or something like that....Oengul War-Anvil.  That was a tough one.
6) What color are the guards' shields in Falkreath?  I have mods so not sure, but I guess green...Blue, with a tint of purple.  My crayola crayon box only had 16 colors so you might want to Google images and see for yourself.
7) What is the name of the alchemist in Dawnstar?  you got meFrida.  Her quest actually gives you a very good Alchemy ring you wont want to give back.
8) What is the name of the begger in Markarth?  don't know any of the beggars except Hilde...Don't give to the poor much, do we :)  Do you mean Silda the Unseen in Windhelm?  Hilde in the old lady who says she saw a dragon when you first enter Riverwood.  Degaine is the beggar in Markarth.
9) What is the name of the fruits/food vender in Solitude (i.e. the Carlotta)?  no clue. Evette San. If you remembered her, that's probably one sign you've played way too much.
10) Does Winterhold have a jail?  no clue, I'm the thane, prison is for little people.  It does, but not in the city.  check out "the Chill" www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Chill
11) What is the name of the house the PC can buy in Windhelm?  Hjerim...That was an easy one.
12) What is the name of the alchemy shop in Riften?  good question...Elgrim's Elixers.  I'm pretty sure that's where Happy Daiz and Ingun hang out together :wizard:
13) What is the name of the Jarl of Markarth?  Igmund...yep.
14) In Solitude, where are all the places you can get a divine blessing?  Temple of the Divines, Temple of Arkay...Yep.
15) Where is the temple in Windhelm?  Temple of Talos next to the palace, Temple of Arkay near the cemetery...It took me about 4 playthroughs before I found the Temple of Talos.
16) How many general goods stores/blacksmiths/alchemists are in Morthal?  one alchemist, no general goods store, Falion sells stuff...Yep
17) You know where the smelter is in Whiterun.  Do you know which of Skyrim's 8 other cities has a smelter and where it is?  Skyrim has 8 cities?  I mostly use Windhelm's. I know Riften, Winterhold and Solitude don't have one, Shor's Stone does...Well, I don't know if Morthal and the like should count as cities, I guess "Hold Capitals" would have been a better choice of words.  Dawnstar has two (one at each mine).  Falkreath has one.  Markarth has one (it's by the Warrens, not the blacksmith).  All the mining towns have smelters.  Shor's Stone and Karthwasten are more town with mines, they also have them
18) How many ways is it possible to enter/leave Riften without fast traveling?  I guess four...I think six: main south gate, north gate, honeyside, east gate to docks, black-briar meadery, jail sewer.
19) What's the name of the Redguard in Falkreath?  the alchemist, don't remember her name...Zaria
20) Quick - are there any Dunmer in Dawnstar?  Erandur...Also Ravam Verethi on the Sea Squall.

Pretty good!  Why don't you like Whiterun?  It's not too bad...I actually like Heimskr :wizard:

It's true; I do spend a lot of time there. That might be why the vampires always kidnap her if I side with Dawnguard...?

I do too. Whenever I'm in Whiterun, I usually sit on the bench and listen for a while. I just can't help myself.

Had anyone attempted a play through by being a normal person? Earn coin by doing jobs like urging wood then going bed at 10? Role play?

I've heard about people doing that, picking crops and other stuff. Sounds crazy and I think they also went crazy out of boredom.

If I wanted to do that, I'd just turn off the console, and would go LIVE MY LIFE. Image IPB

It sounds terribly tedious to me. Why sleep, when I can make money? Improve my skills? Set bears on fire? Shout bandits off a cliff?

I remember the optimal 5+5+1 (for Luck) leveling system of Oblivion. I really don't miss it...

...although I really enjoyed the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild. Especially that quest where you return to say hello to an "old friend".

Might have to return to Cyrodiil after my Volkihar Telvanni Mage-Lord collects all his Daedric artifacts and my Werewolf tosses Miraak into the depths of Oblivion.

Wha...? Your mage came from Thedas (DA) to Tamriel (TES)? Image IPB

What's funny is that if you enter "Tevinter" on the uesp wiki, it says, "Did you mean: tainted"? Hehe.

Where else was my Telvanni mage supposed to go to avoid the eruption of Red Mountain? :P

However, it was time to go. No grandiose mushroom towers. No Cephalopod Helms. No spellmaking altars. No levitation potions. Tevinter was very disappointing.

Because anyone who tries or says otherwise has to deal with a power more feared than the Dark Brotherhood: me :D

Yes, though I preferred bow hunting then selling meat and skins or making leather.  Enjoyed mining for awhile and playing blacksmithing to make and sell jewelry (very profitable by the way) and weapons back to shops as well.  Chopped wood, harvested crops, avoided fighting, travelled, ate food, didn't use potions, lived in a modded-in bare bones shack in the middle of nowhere, made a nice little living, etc...but honestly after about 200-300 hours of it, shield bashing and lopping off bandit heads became infinitely more appealing...I mean, we are Dragonborn after all.

I have a friend who does that.
He plays an intrepid Merchant who goes around trying to make money.

He maxed:
Alchemy, Smithing Enchanting, Sneak, and Archery.

He runs from most battles has hired help to protect him, he only got the House in Falkreath because he basically hired a follower and made them kill the crap out of those bandits.

I have no idea how he plays like that.
Never joined a guild, has killed only like...12 people in his entire play time.

Then again he tries playing every RPG like it is Harvest Moon.
