My character is kinda a Thief/Mage hybrid, though the only magic school I use is Illusion. I use stealth way more than magic, though. In Skyrim I want to use more magic, especially because the new magic system looks great

Q: Will there be Arenas?
A: Not the Arena like Oblivion. (Not sure what this really confirms beyond that)
I don't know. The answer makes me think they have something else planned. He could have just said no rather than give a more cryptic answer, lol.

It's not my first time... as in, I played a little of Morrowind, but I never got past Balmora (I think that's the name) :| So I think that for all that matters I'm new, yes. I never touched the main quest yet, between exploring dungeons and doing awesome Dark Brotherhood's quests I kinda forgot about it.

I was hoping that my characters could be relatives (in fact, I was thinking about making my Oblivion character the mother of my Skyrim character. I'll probably go for it even if doesn't make sense)
Well, welcome to the amazing world of The Elder Scrolls. Oblivion is the only TES I have played, although I completed the hundred hour long expansion, The Shivering Isles, which takes place entirely in a unique Oblivion realm. I didn't do the Dark Brotherhood (which is for the most part considered blasphemy) or the Fighter's Guild...did almost everything else. My character was a female Bosmer (Wood Elf) named Zelda. I was a Battlemage...used a lot of Destruction and Restoration and focused in on Light Armor and Security.
The Elder Scrolls is all about you...how you want to play...but I think you're smart in avoiding the main quest and just exploring and doing the factions. If you take your time, explore and take it all in, your playthrough will inevitably be several hundred hours and very satisfying.
Skyrim takes place 200 years after the events of Oblivion. A lot has changed in Tamriel and all of the Providences.
Glad you're enjoying. Skyrim is close, though!!!

Haven't they confirmed perks will also be available beyond level 50?sympathy4saren wrote...
The way levelling is going to work is that when its time to level up, you go to, literally, skill constellations and pick which set of skills you want to improve. This will give you your standard statistical increases. But along with that, each time you level (up to level 50), you will be able to pick a perk

Yes, confirmed you can keep picking a new perk every time you level up, all the way to the theoretical maximum level (around level 70-80)

This picture sold me.
I am going to play as an Argonian pure mage. I will use weapons on occasion and when needed if silenced, and of course I will use staffs. But I will be attending The College of Winterhold and adhering to a strict doctrine of magicka as a Mage.
I will also be focusing on the skill of enchantment and the essential art of alchemy. Alchemy, imo, is an important art to master as a Mage.
My name.....Gammameggon.

But the pure-mage idea is great, of course. The one I like the best is Illusion magic. Nothing like using Frenzy and watching your target trying to atack guard and die horribly.

Didn't know that...awesome.
I thought that the new engine would allow for a truly realistic Colluseium-esque Arena atmosphere, but I'm not disappointed. This game will be jammed packed with content. I just started playing a first playthrough of Fallout 3, so I don't know how many 'quests' there are, but 6-7 times anything means it has to be a hell of a lot. One hell of a lot. My biggest hope right now is for a vast array of robes and robe styles, staffs and staff styles...along with Apotheosis as an Easter Egg to so i can feel a tangible connection to IV. Spells seem to be INCREDIBLE, and I support the decision to allocate Mysticism spells into other, more coherent existing categories.
I hope it isn't too long into the game before I acquire a spell or two. In IV I remember getting a fire spell in the Tutorial. Hopefully the same happens this time.
What will be the extent of Tavern Brawls, though? Will you simply walk unto a Tavern and pick a fight, or is it Fight Club like, downstairs somewhere?

@Haplose-True magic might offer more effects But I bet magic wont help you get the welkynd and Varla stones that are placed out of reach can it? My trusty bow and arrow can.
I do believe Telekinesis will
Plus I don't think you need to be particularly proficient with a bow to use arrow impact physics to drop objects. I think this happens regardless of your skill/bow damage.
More on topic, I'm really happy with the character development changes they are introducing. Oblivion's mechanics for me had no sense whatsoever. And the set spell system should also be an improvement. While freedom is good in theory, I always found Elder Scrolls spells seriously lacking. Somehow dull and uninspired, particularly comparing to a complex system with almost endless possible effects, like in DnD. And staple spells with lore, creators, etc (stuff like Melf's Acid Arrow, Tasha's Hideous Laughter, Mordkainen's Sword or Bigby's Hand).
Hopefully in Skyrim spells will become more "iconic" rather then generic, like in previous Elder Scrolls games.
