Then why are they on the Skyrim Nexus if they think it's awful?
If we were to use his reasoning I'd guess they are there because "mods make their game better" even though I've rarely seen anything like that over there but then again I don't spend much time there. I do know that if he were complaining the way he's complaining here he would have been banned long ago from Nexus since they really don't tolerate stupid crap like this. There's no reasoning with his logic, everything anyone says is wrong if it doesn't match with his opinion.
But getting mods for a game they hate doesn't make sense either. Why bother with it?
the game itself is bad
but it can be decent after 300 mods

As much as I don't want to step on you dishonored boner Lazengan, it got stale after awhile, maybe the story just bleh and maybe I'm just not one for stealth but even after I got 'high chaos' at the party level for killing about five guards outside the party I just lost my feel for it.
My only hard on for dishonored is the combat. Which could use some refinement, but is definitely towards the right direction.
They dumbed down elements of story telling, and this is true. The lady Boyle mission told you literally everything to do, and it is not fun when a developper pats gamers on the back and tugs them on a leash on what to do.
Apparently they had to dumb it down because beta testers found it too difficult. Urgh disgusting
Dishonored's stealth system was pretty bad too
but the combos, the powers, the fact that every counter was different and unpredictable, the limitless mechanical depth and creative potential, I loved it
You see how this works? You have a hard on for Dishonored's combat even though it "could use refinement." You then justify and forgive Bethsoft for "dumbing down" the Dishonored's story. And lastly you acknowledge Dishonored's "pretty bad too" stealth system.
You're doing the same thing for Dishonored as most posters here have been doing for Skyrim.

For much of the game, I'd agree with you. But like most RPGs, the balance falls apart at high levels.
Your basic iron greatsword does 15 damge per hit. At 0.7 attacks per second its 10.5 DPS
Your basic iron sword does 7 damage per hit. At 1 attack per second its 7 DPS.
That's a healthy +50% damage increase for the two-hander. Pretty resepctable.
Take a daedric greatsword. It does 24 damage a hit. At 0.7 attacks per second that's 16.8 DPS..
Take a daedric sword. it does 14 damage a hit. At 1 attack per second that's 14 DPS.
Now we're down to 20%.
But at that high level, you'll have: the armsmens/barbarian perks maxed out, 100 skill, and legendary upgrades.
Now the daedric greatsword does 102 damage a hit for 71.4 DPS
The daedric sword does 72 damage a hit for 72 DPS.
I could also have a shield. But you're right, sword & shield is kind of weak so instead I'll carry another sword and those perks which increase my attack rate by 35% and my power attack damage by 50%, perks which are unavilable in the two-handed tree.
If the boost in raw damage was balanced by the lack of defense at low levels then the same cannot be true at high levels because I have suffered no additional defensive handicaps and my damage output has increased far more than the two-hander.
I *like* and would prefer to use two-handed so I'm not biased or anything. It's just the the numbers I think speak for themselves.
Well, I'd have never thought I'd be arguing against solid numbers and facts. Really strange, as I've always been a Munchkin powergamer at heart.
For sure, you can blend faster with dual swords. And stuff will die fast. But if you want to fight instead... *shrug*
I didn't just mean that one-handed swords are weak only because of their low damage (which, as you pointed out, is similar to two-handed, even moreso if we take tempering and enchantments into consideration), but because of their lack of force. There is no weight behind one handed/dual swings. It's like you are swinging a feather...
It *feels* wrong. And, well, the enemies react much less to these hits. I remember when playing my orc barbarian that most non-lieutanant enemies would be flattened on the floor after the first power attack... helplessly trying to scramble and get up.
Also only two-handed weapons get the aoe swings... but that's actually of very limited use. Critical charge on the other hand... 2x damage for power attack, x2 for guaranteed critical... perhaps x2 if you happen to be an orc and rage.... That's an attack few things survive. And only raw damage counts here, as only that gets multiplied... not the enchantments, not the poisons.
I see that one handed got that perk as well. But it makes little sense to use it with a shield... plus two-handers have superior reach. And I'm not sure it would work with dual-wielding, as that's the "other" side of the tree. But critical charge and a solid two-hander is a match made in heaven.
I don't like dual-wielding... it takes away options and leaves you very vulnerable. Also doesn't seem natural or fluid. Sword and board just feels weak.
Neither of these two has any weight behind it. Neither feels right IMO (unlike two-handed, archery and a single dagger for backstabbing).
Hm, I never took the bash perks, so wouldn't know for sure. But as far as I remember, two-handed swords had same or better bash modifiers then shields, so I don't see why not. At least on Normal. Less protection from blocking with a sword, obviously. And some very nice Block perks don't work at all (shield charge, elemental protection).BTW, never got to that point in my games, can you kill with a bash when using a two-handed weapon?

Yep. In any Skyrim Discussion, After constructing and deconstructing every single feature, flaw, quality, detriment, benefit, and downfall of Skyrim's systems, perks, gameplay, graphics, physics, story, nonstory, setting, and every detail before and after, THAT becomes the bottom line.Sajuro wrote...
After admitting Skyrim has flaws, can I just say one of the reasons I love it? I was playing in between classes last year and I ran up onto a ledge of a mountain and looked across the map, realizing that I could go all the way across to the Mountain I saw in the distance and I was like "**** YES!"
Not Surprizingly, Todd Howard, when he was revealing and promoting Skyrim more than 2 years ago, based each of his presentations around this very point. It's the bread and butter behind the success of the Elder Scrolls. Always.
