Is the Elven (left) side of the smithing tree all that bad? I am sick of all the Daedric hype, so I am excited to be crafting Dragonbone stuff first. I am quite sure, however that I will make some Daedric stuff with my other non-orc character.

Not bad at all, it's the more versatile tree.  If you need heavy armor it provides Bonemold, Steel Plate, Ancient Nordic, Carved Nordic.  The right tree has zero light armor.

I dislike Glass personally, though this may change with a new aMidian texture mod addition available. But there are several new Light armors that have been added to the game (eg; Vampiric, Chitin, Light Stalhrim, etc) in the DLC.

And I am not that fond of Daedric armor, either; too spiky for most of my characters.

I agree regarding Glass and Daedric armor, though I like Glass arrows and bow appearances and used those for a "Crystalline" bow and arrows I use to supercede high end bows and crossbows (my mod).

So... the only DLC I have (so far) is Dawnguard. This means I cannot craft Bonemold or Nordic armors??

Not unless you get Dragonborn and you should get it.

Yeah... I think I cannot resist getting DB, but I don't really care about the "Hot-tub DLC"

y u say that? what has hearthfire ever done to you? It lets you adopt children and then subsequently scar them for life before sending them to wander aimlessly in the icy barrens of Skyrim.
Also you can give a starving orphan some useless wrappings to take all of her gold.

Cool. Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad to see the Dwarven smithing is a fairly popular method of training. I actually really enjoy exploring (or reexploring) the Dwarven ruins so I'll just continue doing it that way.

It's also a fairly organic development method - dive in, explore, kill stuff, collect junk and then proceed to melt the scrap and craft usefull, valuable stuff.

Left side is not bad (though I love the Daedric style)... it's just that Dwarven smithing is the best to develop the skill.
But the Royal Vamipiric (Light) Armors from Dawnguard are not half bad for hybrid caster-fighter characters.... unless you're more into that Zero spellcasting cost lunacy, of course.

Hearthfie just seems... beneath Skyrim somehow. It's a bit too close to the mind-numbingly idiotic Sims...

Like an anonymous comedian once said about going to the movies with his wife in the 90s:

"I don't wanna go to a movie about relationships for Christ's sake. I HAVE a relationship. If I am paying to go see a movie, I don't want it to be about a marriage. I HAVE a marriage. I want it to be about people who live under the stairs and EAT OTHER PEOPLE!!!"

No, that's not a great analogy, Skyrim ITSELF is very Sim-ish out of the box. Hearthfire just adds something that should have already been there IMO.

A more accurate analogy would be if you go to a movie and someone offers you popcorn and soda.... and you respond with something silly, like: "Food?! I already have food at home, why do I need to eat at a movie theatre?" Well? There's an answer to that: It's fun to munch on stuff when watching a movie. It fills out the experience.

I'm still using glass arrow becuase they are cheap, easy to find. Dragonbone and Daedric arrows are an overkill on most enemies. Stalhrim arrows are nice, but rare.

BTW Where can I farm for Daedric hearts? I only have 3 of them in store. I did Azura's quest first, without realizing how rare these items are, and killed the priest before killing and looting all the Daedric.

I believe the Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon has some, as does Enthir at the College of Magic in his stock.

Thanks. I got the two from Shrine of Mehrunes. Gotta look up Enthir. I found it very hard to tell who's who at the College.

BTW I lost Cicero somewhere. Is there any chance I could find him again? Finally my sneaking is high enought that I can keep up with him.

So...back to Skyrim again I guess.

You know you try to stay away, but suddenly you get pulled back in.
Ah well it is a sweet torment if nothing else.

Not many games can make you say "Just one more time, but with a character like this!"

Plus I can play it anyway I like now because I got 100% of the achievements!

Also look up the Shrine, as it restocks on a regular basis; inside, I mean.

I agree Giggles, gotta love me some Elder Scrolls gaming now and then, even when I'm hooked on a nother shiny game at the time.

Not sure how SIMs can be compared to Skyrim; I don't have to suffer time limits, my day doesn't go by lighting fast (well, modded day/night length anyway) and I'm not managing a family or job on any of my characters. I suppose the adoption thing could count, but after trying it I gave it up. Reminded me of Legend of the Red Dragon but with fewer benefits.

I think all alchemist shops may sell them at random. They are kinda rare though. I've had most luck at orcish alchemists. Definately can be bought, but can be annoying to get them when you want them. So I just buy whenever they are available till I have a nice stock :)

Ok... so Skyrim is NOT like the sims...it is like not wanting popcorn at the movies but then deciding to have some after all. Got it.

You know if you ask me Bethesda was probably trying to give console players a "way" they can enjoy mods. Most of that stuff about houses and adoption already existed in the way of mods or it could be a cash grab. However, I don't know if a cash grab would cost $5 anyways.

I don't like adoption either, I found the kids to be rather annoying, nonetheless I do like the idea of having places for yourself. My dragonborn needs his safehouses. I just wish they had added a house in Winterhold, its the only hold that has nothing, the only reason to go there is the college and so far there are no good sizeable Winterhold house mods. The ones that exist are crummy houses with no space.

It's really only an extension of buying houses which was in previous games.  Now they just need to make the physics so that you can decorate them more easily...

The relationship stuff is minimal.  The fanbase still takes it to extremes, a la BSN, but that part can easily be ignored.  It's just another way to get an in-game house and like someone said, probably a response to mods.
