Always a mod to fix things in Skyrim ...how sad.

More like something to celebrate than be sad about.  The vast majority of Skyrim mods don't fix a damn thing, but add to the experience.  What's sad is not being able to fix or tweak games at all, many of which are in desperate need of it, because developers and publishers want to completely control end products to milk their consumers.

Sad? Hardly.

Has anyone ever reached 100% Completion? You know only having thieves guild and Darkbrotherhood to do considering they both have unlimited contracts.

In the regular game I think I only have 2 or 3 achievements left, but I've barely done the DLC.

Got 2 of the hardcover CE guides.  1 to use and 1 to keep sealed in case its worth more down the road.

Some great builds detailed, will be very useful when I get to starting a new character in a couple months!

I just bought Skyrim and its DLC for my computer (previously I've played it on the 360). I'll be doing some mod shopping before I start, but I was wondering if someone could give me a list of recommended mods.

Note: I'll be playing with a controller.

Everyone's idea of 'recommended' tends to be different, since we all have our preferences.

You can't really go wrong with SkyUI and the Unofficial Patches, in my opinion. There is an Unofficial Patch for every DLC, so only download the ones for the DLC you have.

I'll leave it to others to suggest their recommended mods. Mine are mostly for the game's graphical and audio presentation, and I don't have the list handy (though I posted most of the mods earlier in this thread).

I play on PC using a controller as well and have about 50 or so mods on. I'd be glad to share my mods list with you, but am currently in between moves and am limited to my mobile, so typing is a chore. What are you interested in?

Ooh, that does look very cool. Pity it still is a little bit guilty of the cleavage thing.:P I'm still not sure what armor I will end up using. The description recommends Nordic carved, but I don't have the Dragonborn DLC yet, and when I looked at a screenshot of it I didn't really like it anyway. Nightingale would be great for this, but I think the Thieves Guild doesn't really fit with this kind of character... I'm considering to go for the glass armor set. I've never had a character wear that (well, that can be said of most armor in the game, haha). Oh, fashion dilemmas. Serious business.

Anyway, here's my demon hunterress

If you want to make your game prettier in every possible way you can imagine, dig through the STEP guide:http://wiki.step-pro....com/STEP:2.2.1

It has a great list of the best texture mods and graphical improvements. Of course you don't have to download everything listed. Just take a look and see what suits your tastes.

Edit: I'm sorry, I somehow messed up the link.

Mostly graphics and GUI mods.  Possibly gameplay related mods (companions, additional quests, etc.) if they're very good.

Also, is there a step-by-step guide explaining how to find these mods, download them, and get them running as they should?

Even though I have my Skyrim modded to the max with over 170+ mods I picked up a hardcover edition of the Skyrim Legendary Edition book. I never really buy guides but Skyrim is huge and a lot of side quests I never did before. It comes in handy when stuck or I want to make sure I miss nothing. It was only $30 on amazon too when I bought it =)
Also some more of my recent screenshots from Skyrim:

I've hit level 17 on my Volkihar build. Damn, it's easy to forget how squishy you are early on, especially in light armor/robes. With the Atronach stone I'm doing better then usually against casters, but am constantly starved for magicka, particularly when there are no enemy casters present.
Also a dragon's breath doesn't seem to refill one's mana. At least a fire dragon's flame DOT seems like it can be absorbed, but with frost dragons I'm out of luck. And damn, the Destruction spells are weak (just the Apprentice ones for now, but they are the most mana efficient anyway... and I'm constantly starved)... can't compare with a solid bow, unfortunately.

When I finally depeted the beast's health (after 3 reloads due to being wing buffeted and ragdolled to a rocky death), the giant lizard fell from the sky right on top of my character's head and killed him through physics again... Did I mention I tried the Dragon Combat Overhaul?

Not to mention how many reloads it took me to take out that damn Hagspawn which summons two frost trolls at Hag's End...

On the upside, I now got the first words for the 3 major shouts: Slow Time, Become Ethereal and Elemental Fury.
I went with a two-handed variant of the build and that at least is pretty effective, particularly with Elemental Fury. But I guess I will soon have to work hard on my Smithing in order to reduce the squishiness a bit (and maybe on Enchanting).

Yup Become Ethereal is a major part of that build especially with no sneak/cc/followers/summons

By the way, I ended up uninstalling Open Cities; I like the concept and appreciate the effort, but it apparently causes crashes due to memory constraints if you're running more than a handful of mods. I have 40 installed and NMC's textures is the biggest by far. For all the work it only eliminated the loading screen at the entrances to the cities; still had a screen for every house within the city.

However I kept the author's Gildergreen tree mod (starts dead and gradually improves after doing Danica's quest), and his improved (as in more of them) road signs mod.

Its a good mod, Open Cities, the problem isn't really the mod, its the game and the engine. It is just not possible, the game was designed with consoles in mind. Otherwise, there would've been no necessity for loading screens when entering cities and houses.

I believe you explained that before; I know it's not the mod's fault per se, but the side effect of the game trying to load the entire city contents does cause the engine to go belly up. That's too bad. Yet another reason I hate console influence on PC games.

Fortunately it looks like Witcher 3 will have seamless area transitions. Maybe someone will do a Skryim TC using W3 engine. :D

I did, I forgt things like that. Anyways, yes, PC ports are problems, I don't know whats so hard about doing the ports for consoles insteadl. Isn't it easier, I mean the games are MADE on PC.

Heh, I rolled a new DB going that Volkihar build except I'm using fire instead of frost (too many enemies resist frost to focus on it).  I'm @ level 24 and, yeah, dragons are no joke.  If you have no archery skill or summons like the build I saw (and me), you are going to want the death shout to weaken them so when they land you can kill them before they ragdoll you.

Vamp destruction armor & restoration perk helps with the magicka, but I think the build works best when relying on your swords rather than spells.  I've found Elemental Fury much more useful than the other shouts at the early levels, but I'm duel-wielding and that combined with EF is ridiculously powerful.  Word of warning, if you are going vampire like I am, you *will* notice daylight really hampers this build bc/ as you observed you are already starved for magicka and you need stamina (if you forgo vegetable soup bc/ it is almost gamebreaking).

It's a fun build to play :wizard:  Especially a nice change of pace if you typically do other stuff like rely on stealth and summons.

Funny occurance in Skyrim today....

I have been taking a break and have been playing another game for a bit; returned to Skyrim today to fix mod updates and the like, and was hooked into playing another DB. The big difference between these two games is Pause funtionality; one uses the spacebar, and Skyrim chooses other options. However, muscle memory is difficult to alter quickly.

Got my new Bosmer high enough lvl where he was informed of Vampire attacks and the Dawnguard, and then went off to Whiterun to report of Helgen and Alduin. After aiding the Jarl against his own dragon problems, he purchased Breezeholm, picked up a couple of lesser tasks, and settled down for a good night's rest and awoke a little after 8 AM to see what the shops had in stock.

No sooner had he opened the front door when he was assaulted by a welcome call from a Master Vampire and a couple of thralls. Even at my best such surprise attacks can be tough, but even more so today as I kept hitting the wrong key to Pause. Instead, I kept leaping! My Wood Elf was continually jumping around like a flea on a scratching dog!

Now one would think that normally this would lead to a needed re-load, but not so this time. The vampire could not touch me, and his diseased spell could not best my Elven resistance. The Elf even managed to aid allies with Courage a few times when he stopped hopping. And this being the start of the market day, almost everyone in the city came running to my aid including the Smiths. The undead fell eventually, nobody from the city died, and neither did their new Thane!

Embarrasing? Possibly so had this been ESO and a MMO environment, but I had a good chuckle at my gaming ineptitude and decided to take a break for supper.

I've heard that a lot of people complain about vampire attacks. In my experience, vampire attacks only work when they attack when there's no one around otherwise the mob of people plus guards usually kill the vampires easily. Most of the times I'm more concerned about the thralls, they seem to be smarter and more dangerous.
