I do agree that the Elemental Fury shout is by far the most effective at this stage. I don't really like the dual wielding in Skyrim, but it also does wonders for two-handed combat.
Things might change a bit when I get more Stamina and the Critical Charge perk, as from what I remember, that was usually an OHKO with a two-hander - so the attack speed no longer really mattered.
And will need to test that time slowed Ice Storm sometime soon. And the Ice Cloak (possibly with Become Ethereal for some trolling). But in general I agree, the blade is usually the best solution (and that with a High Elf).
I do plan to become a vampire, after all that (and the Necomage... feauture) plays a pretty significant role in the build. But am not in a hurry, seeing how squishy I currently feel. Perhaps will hold it off till going through the Dawnguard questline. Look forward to eventually donning the Ancient Elven Armor. Though Royal Vampire is also tempting with the mana regen bonus... oh well, will worry about... aestetics later. Still have a long way to go before that.
For now I just crafted my first Elven Armor set and managed to get 240 Armor Rating. That's actually... quite bad, especially considering that I gave up a Vampire's Armor magicka regen and a bracer's 25% Two-Handed bonus for that, but better then the 80 or so I've been running with so far.
Guess I'll need to get Azura's Black Star next and try enchanting the armor a bit. My Enchanting skill is now around 50, problem is I didn't take any perks there yet. Might also need to take Dwarven Smithing in order to accelerate the progress in Smithing, which otherwise takes forever to level (or a mountain of gold). Plus some perks in Light Armor (Agile Defender 4, Wind Walker), Two-Handed (Critical Charge, Devastating Blow, Barbarian 4)and Destruction (Adept, maybe Augmented Frost 2 and Deep Freeze) as they unlock.
Get 2 more words for Become Ethereal and Slow Time, one more for Elemental Fury. Seems I'll need to go thorugh College (Morokei should be nice for magicka regen... but sucky for AR) and Civil War questlines to get all of them.
So it seems like I have at least the next 10 levels, and probably more, laid out before me.. and a lot of work awaits
Aftewards there's Dawnguard looming ahead... maybe drop some points in Alteration for Magic Resistance... Arcane Smithing, Necromage, Enchanter 5, Corpus Enchanter, Recovery 2, Maybe Block 2 with Quick Reflexes, Respite... and finally Extra Effect... then I'm finally ready to enchant that Ancient Falmer Armor.
Should keep me busy for a while. A long while.
