No, it's really not. That's an ESOism.LPPrince wrote...
250 is old for a ES elf.
ESO- part of ES.
That means its an ESism.
Unless it gets contradicted later which who knows, it might.

I thought High Elves lived for at least a 1000 years? Don't they?
Thats what I thought too before ESO Q&A. I figured all elves had several-hundred year lifespans.

They're only doing it to keep the MMO kiddies under control, so they don't make 500 year old elves who they expect to be superpowered. Those devs know jack about ES lore and care about it even less.

Also, seeing as the devs of ESO are working closely with the team that works on the series, I'll assume they care quite a bit about the lore.
Can we also not presume to know how they feel about things? Jeez.
I get being critical but damn.

If you say you don't know what I'm talking about with l33tRaNgEr types, then you're being disingenuous.
And now I'd like to stop talking about ESO, because it's irrelevant to Elder Scrolls and also off topic.

ESO- Elder Scrolls Online
Okay, fine. I'd like to keep talking about it though, since it interests me, plus there's been quite a bit of discussion online about how much Skyrim is going to affect it.
I'm sure the easy route people are gonna take is joining the Ebonheart Pact because thats where Nords are affiliated, and Skyrim was the last ES game released which was Nord central.
I'd rather go with a race that differs from what you see in Skyrim all the time, hence my idea as of right now to go Bosmer.
Oh, and another subject that came up- how much Skyrim in ESO will look like Skyrim in TESV.
I imagine it'll look similar enough, but it'll have to be different being that ESO is 1000 years prior to Skyrim.

I'm pretty sure they said that about Warcraft too, and look how that turned out, developers say that all the time, they always promise that X won't be affected by Y's inclusion or development when it is impossible to promise such a thing.

I mean, ESO is made by ZeniMax Online Studios, in comparison to TESV and such's Bethesda Game Studios.
Same parent company, but...hmm.

I wonder in what way ESO's development would affect the single player games though.

It has already been affected, it doesn't matter if it's two different developers. Skyrim's DLC was stopped abruptly and I'm sure it had to do with them not wanting both games to compete with each other.

Then again, ESO waaas supposed to come out this year too. It got pushed back because of beta testers' feedback and the desire of the team to make changes.
I'd figure they wouldn't compete. A DLC for Skyrim would be a drop in the bucket compared to a full blown MMO release on several platforms.
If anything, a DLC for Skyrim would've drummed up more interest in the MMO for some folks.
Could be related. Might not be, but could be. Guess we'll never really know.

Yeah it would have come out this year, probably, but it didn't and you know how they ended their DLC. At first we were told more content was coming, then a while later apparently Dragonborn was the last DLC, they were working on something I'm sure of it, but they canceled whatever it was. Otherwise they would have stated that Dragonborn was the last DLC way before they had released it.
It really doesn't matter if its expensive or not compared to ESO, money is money and costs are costs, if they saw that it became a liablity then it's likely it got axed because of that. Besides, DLCs aren't all that cheap to make, if patches are as expensive as they are I imagine a DLC would cost a lot more. MMOs are too expensive and if anything thats probably one of the big reasons why whatever they were making was thrown out the window. Aside, from the fact that you have two products from the same franchise and two different teams making "similar" games, its redundant and in businesses redundancies tend to be unnecessary costs.

You can't just go and bastardize an established, time honored piece of intellectual property and expect its loyal fans to accept what you're doing with a smile. It would be like you've got this wonderful Steakhouse you've been eating at for 20 years because you love their flame grilled Porterhouse steaks, and then going there one night and discovering that they've suddenly decided to jump on the "health food" bandwagon, and they're no longer serving meat. Instead, their famous Porterhouse steak platter is now a low calorie veggie burger entree...but just to get people in the door, they're still calling it a porterhouse steak platter.

It's not like they've made it the canon sequel of a totally different game or anything

Actually, while my only concern here is the continued survival of the Elder Scrolls single player games that we get every few years (and thus I don't care either way about ESO), I *can* and *do* totally understand the vehement disapproval behind the creation of an Elderscrolls MMO.

That analogy doesn't really work for me though. I'd alter it to say that you've gone to a steakhouse for 20 years, then find out that these other people are working closely with the people who run that steakhouse and are opening a new but related other place that is also a steakhouse but sells other stuff too, and is run differently by different people. Also has a related name.
Honestly, this thread is the place where I've found the most anti-ESO opinions(by anti I just mean non-interest, rather than outlandish over the top hate)on the web.
Everywhere else I go, people are pretty interested. I'm happy about that, because I dig the idea that I can play ESO completely by myself if I wanted to, but can also team up with other players and friends at any time and go do other things.
Smart thing about ESO and ZOS is that at no point have I heard any stupid comment like, "ESO is gonna be a WoW Killer" or some stuff like that.
They're just focusing on making ESO awesome without trying to hype it up ridiculously. At least for now.

Not being a Lore junkie, it is easy for me to overlook any changes that may appear in ESO. However, what does concern me are rules and mechanics that may make playing and dying too harsh for those like myself that are more reliant on Pause, non-twitch mechanics, etc. I am certainly not going to stay away because they improved the appearance of Elves, but may never test the game due to possible implementations that make actual gameplay too frustrating and annoying to enjoy.
The way dying works in the game right now-
You have two options when you die in ESO.
1- Respawn exactly where you died. This will cost you I believe, and I don't think this is allowed in a PVP area. Just PVE zones, but I could be wrong.
2- Respawn at a Wayshrine. This will send you to the nearest Wayshrine, which is effectively a "fast travel" spot. This won't cost you, but it might take time before you get back to where you died.
At least thats how it works right now.
