The way dying works in the game right now-

You have two options when you die in ESO.

1- Respawn exactly where you died. This will cost you I believe, and I don't think this is allowed in a PVP area. Just PVE zones, but I could be wrong.
2- Respawn at a Wayshrine. This will send you to the nearest Wayshrine, which is effectively a "fast travel" spot. This won't cost you, but it might take time before you get back to where you died.

At least thats how it works right now.

Thanks for the clarification. Here is one link I found that has mentioned some +/- nuggets:

http://shadowedmare....erview-day-two/

Of these items, the ones that concern me at a glance are Dodging and Lockpicking; cannot move very well even in Skyrim, and loathe to be rushed.

But as with most games, hope for the best; expect the worst....

Dodging right now in the game is double clicking one of the WASD buttons, thus dodging in that direction. Costs a lot of stamina though, so that its not abused.

Lockpicking is as it was in Oblivion, I think.

Also, Stealth costs Stamina which is a real change from Skyrim mechanics for me.

I like that Stealth costs stamina, that way you're not doing it all the time, especially in a PVP zone.

In PVE, it also would make it so that you use it when necessary instead of just stealthing 24/7, which is definitely something that can happen.

It'll be weird for me too at first(since I'm used to Skyrim) but I get it, and I think I'll get the hang of it.

That's how mmos handle stealth.  Stealth most likely will be broken on damage and there should be abilities that detect stealthers (i.e. detect life).

Stealthing costs stamina as you do it, yeah. For balancing purposes, since there's gonna be other players all over the place. Also, stealth is as of right now based on field-of-vision, not lighting.

They may add that in later. Remember, everything's up for change.

They said that yeah, there will be abilities that allow players to detect others in stealth.

Mechanically it probably has to for the PvP and even group PvE aspects otherwise it woudl be too easily abused. As it is it will probably be too powerful PvP wise.

Depends on how much stamina you have.

Right now I plan to play a Bosmer in Medium Armor- that means stealth and loads of stamina for me.

Where were you guys when I posted E3 gameplay footage here?  I think we have enough to continue the discussion on the TESO thread as I'm sure many regulars here aren't interested in mmo stealth mechanics.

Considering in these types of games stealth basically means you can hide in plain sight, I don't mind if it costs stamina. A decent stealth skill is better than the Expert level invisibility spell so yeah, there should be some sort of opportunity cost.

@ Prince. I can't speak for everyone here, but when it comes to ESO I don't think people on here are anti per se than skeptical (excepting Addai of course). How many times I heard developers insist that they are staying true to some imagined core ideals? And how many times has that promise been genuinely fulfilled as opposed to some marketing BS? For me, the respective answers are many and I can't think of one. Even when Random Project II is made by the same people who did Random Project I, we still get highly questionable changes - look at the Star Wars prequels.  I ignore any public claims about "returning to our roots" or what not.  if I were conducting the interview, I'd follow up on such a statement by asking why did you stray from these roots in the first place.

If I hear the game does not make a mockery of what inchoate yet roughly defined ideals the Elder Scrolls series has come to be known for and the graphics and mechanics do not remind me in anyway of Oblivion then I'll probably get the game.

Blaid says without posting in his linked thread, lolololol

Skepticism is totally cool. First ES MMO, so who knows.

I'm feeling pretty positive about it though, meaning I'm likely gonna play it right out of the starting gate, so you can count on me being one of those people letting you know if its worth trying or not.

Yep.  Makes all the sense in the world, don't you know.

Fun>Logic in that case. If stealth didn't cost stamina you'd have hundreds of players doing it at the same time against each other.

Anywho,

Supposedly there's 200 hours of content per alliance's area, so 600 total, give or take depending on how much you wanna do.

RPGs are well-known to use reality-bending game mechanics to balance it out. Would mana exist if not to restrict gamers from spamming it non-stop?

Well, I'm glad mana is what it is in games, since the mana of the Maori people was acquired by consuming parts of their fallen enemies.

Hah.

My immediate issue is if Stealth is Stamina based and is balanced for PvP, then it is designed for combat. But Sneak in Skyrim is designed to get into place for combat; to avoid being seen and hit. And in Skyrim, only that top Perk is able to get one hidden during battle unless there was some way to break LOS. To me, Yandros is not too far off in his description, and sniping takes a major hit if this remains as is.

I could still hit reliably with a bow and arrow in Skyrim with only a little bit of time to sneak.

I had to do that a few times. Worked well enough that I know I could do it regularly.

Its all about reliable management. But we'll see if they make changes.

They've been saying lately that they see ESO as less of an MMO and more of a multiplayer ES.

Its to the point that the MMO purists in the closed beta testing were actually becoming fond of the 1st person PoV with bows and staves(the gateway drugs to 1st person, lolololol), and after aiming in first person like that for a while, they just stayed that way, immersed in the world, leaving 3rd person behind even though its better for team based play and seeing your surroundings.

I think thats pretty cool.

I liked Oblivion's lockpicking system, and another game I saw recently had almost the same system. I forget which one. Skyrim's still better, though, its definitely an improvement over the Fallout system. Very similar obviously, but more refined and detailed.

Just completed Skyrim tonight after an epic 302 hour playthrough.

That's good to hear.  About time we got an MMO that put a little bit more focus on immersion.
