My opinion of ESO is obvious, but I'd prefer to keep this thread to discussion of Skyrim. If I see the thread active I want to open it and read about what people are doing in TESV, not about some other game that's only barely related. ESO's got its own thread.

Agreed. They're completely different animals, by two different companies.

There's actually more than one thread, if you do a search. Maybe that's part of the confusion.

But I think this is the main ESO thread.

I haven't been very active in this thread, because the topic seems to have changed to mods as of late, and I have nothing to contribute (I'm on 360).

Aye, same. With work on Skyrim/TESV ending, this thread slowed down to a crawl. Its pretty much just mods now, and as a console player, that means I also have nada to bring to the table, besides bringing up ESO which includes Skyrim in its game world. *shrugs*

But if were back to Skyrim and just Skyrim, *runs off*

I may try the Blood Mage next.  I'm not sure about his choice of abilities though.  The music takes me back.

Heh, I'm currently busy with both a Demonhunter and a Volkihar build. ;)

I have gone a bit overboard. I am juggling a:
- Orc Knight (Mace & Shield, Alchemy)
- Bosmer Witch-hunter (Archery & Conjuration)
- Altmer Mage (Illusion & Destruction)
- Breton Spellsword (1 hand & Destruction)
- Imperial Battlemage (2 hand & Restoration)
- Khajit Nightblade (Illusion & Stealth)

:innocent:

Man I just started playing this game again after a long time off. What modders have done with this game is nothing short of outstanding. I purchased Dawnguard, Dragonborn and Hearthfire, but all I've done is build one house and the first couple mission of Dawnguard,

I was so inspired by the modding tried my hand at making my own custom follower to place into my game.

I've been playing an archer/conjuration/sneak character as of late. It's a very different play style for Skyrim than I'm used to, and I've actually found myself plowing a few points into Magicka for the first time. However, for me, bouncing between muffle, bound bow, conjure familiar/atronach/revenant does requires a bit more constant vigil than just hitting things really hard...which is, of course, more fun than humans should be allowed; but this really does run a close second on the fun scale for me.

Honestly the only reason I evolved into this build was to level up skills to perk up, then I discovered...I actually enjoyed sneaking an entire dungeon or crypt and crit killing every enemy, without alerting a soul (well...at least until you run into that badass dragon priest)...using nothing but magic.  Definitely something different for me.

Weird thing is, in most games (with modern weapons) like Fallout, I carry a sniper rifle 70% of the time and sneak/crit my way through as much of the game as possible. Don't really know why ES, or any fantasy game for that matter, draws me toward melee. It's not like archery is difficult to use or that its lacking in any substantial way. I guess I just like playing the barbarian in these type games, and soldier up with the 'last thing the baddies will never hear' play style in most others.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm liking a combination of your Witch-Hunter/Khajit Nightblade...for now.

^ You should try adding illusion to that build. It's way overpowered combined with stealth, but it's a bucket of laughs.

Sneak, Illusion and Archery is a very potent combination indeed. And the Bound Bow is an icing on the cake, since it's one of the best bows, period (short of going to the extremes of the smithing craze) - that you can get very early. And endless supply of the best arrows!

Well, actually with archery you hardly need Illusion. It really helps for a melee nightblade build, though :) ... and to level Sneak early/fast.

Me, I'm still playing the Volkihar build. Currently doing the College quests, hoping to get the 3rd word for the Slow Time shout. Also 1 more level and some 12k gold and I'll finally be able to take the Necromage perk. Guess it will be time to cut the crap and turn vampire!

So far, I'm finding the Respite perk surprisingly usefull. Regular attacks are just too weak and I don't have too much Stamina yet (health and magicka got the priority so far). Though with a Two-Hander it's a bit of a pain to keep switching between spells and a weapon. But for those lovely Charge! power attack criticals, it's worth it!

I've looted an Ebony Greatsword that looks like a badass katana off a Deathlord. I have improved it a bit (even though I don't have any Heavy Armor perks) and that's now my primary weapon. I also carry an Legendary Elven Greatsword with Health Absorb as a backup weapon.

I try to use different shouts, mainly Slow Time, but so far Elemental Fury keeps the crown for tougher fights. Destruction is as underpowered as ever... and I'm running out of mana very fast - way before I could kill a "Lieutanant" type enemy with my spells. Well, at least Ice Storm can register multiple hits. Especially fun if they try to run away and the Storm runs them over :)
Though it sucks how many enemies resist Ice... like Draugr Deathlords and Scourges, Frost Dragons (well, obviously) and probably Automatons too (I'm yet to test it).

Still a bit squishy in that Elven armor suit, but after improving it to 380 AR, I can somewhat survive.
But I do miss the safe haven of Sneak, especially empowered by Illusion.

I've made a new vampire character which is a bit more of a lore-friendly vampire (stereotypical even) than my previous vampire character, yet he is surprisingly fun to play.

My main skills are:

- Conjuration
- Illusion

My secondary skills are:

- Sneak
- One-handed
- Destruction

I play this build on Legendary difficulty, which is very hard, but very doable and very rewarding.

This is how I play him:

My vampire always has a sword in his right hand and various spells in his left hand. I use destruction magic, but I do not use any fire spells, since I roleplay that my vampire is scared of fire (he doesn't even use a torch).

As a vampire I'm usually sneaking around, though I'm by no means an assassin. I make plenty of use of my night vision and a detect life spell in order to scan my surroundings while sneaking. When I know what I'm up against, I lay out a plan for my engagement. Usually I place a few runes on the ground, then I sneak up to a tactical position (while invisible if necessary). When I'm ready, I start the engagement with a couple of frenzy spells. After I have frenzied at least one or two enemies, I start using frost spells on the enemies (frost magic is the vampire's bread and butter when it comes to destruction magic, which means in order to keep up with the lore I've maxed out all the frost-related perks in the Destruction skill tree). I'll also conjure a Familiar if I feel like it. When enemies get too close, I put a frost-cloak on myself and start hack-n-slashing at the close enemies with my one-handed sword.
As soon as the first enemy drops dead, I use my Raise Zombie spell (or a more powerful version) to create a thrall. Everytime an enemy dies, I do this. When I've finished Dawnguard (I haven't with this character) I'll most likely use the Conjure Mistman and Conjure Wrathman spells as well. I won't use Atronarchs because I think they're not very vampire-like. A classic vampire relies on necromancy and undead magic, such as zombies, thralls and familiars, but not atronarchs.
If all things go to hell, I'll use Harmony or Mayhem (Master Illusion spells), but I keep those spells as a last-resort.

So yeah, that's how I play my new vampire character (who is a Nord by the way) in Skyrim on Legendary.

Also, I've installed a mod that slowly burns my vampire alive in the sun during the day (as it should have been in the vanilla Skyrim in my opinion), to make this playthrough more interesting and challenging.

Yeah, the only thing I use repeatedly is muffle...A LOT!  But, hysteria and mayhem look like a ton of laughs. Too bad I can't come close to the base costs to cast, with most points at my current level of 59 given to health and stamina. I can block run, shield charge and lop off heads like nobody's business, but I'm weak as a kitten in Magic, with no perks taken in any magic tree, to even slightly reduce costs. I mean, magic's for nerds anyway Addai. Right?  Posted Image Shooter goons just don't do it! Right?

Hmmm, of course, I could just super-enchant with a mod I already have on...that way I could do real magic, and not actually have to play a mage...then my friends would still let me in their lobbies. LOL.

Or...I could just roll a Mage.  Gods, seriously, it's come to that?! Posted Image  Is this thread turning me into a f-in nerd?Posted Image

Seriously though, I'm going to have to roll a magic user specializing in conjuration and illusion. It'll be an unprecedented thing, but as long as I can hit something with an axe every so often, I suppose it'll all be good.  Why is there no bound war axe, dammit?  Eh, dual wielding bound swords works well enough I suppose when the need arises.

Sounds fun! Do you use any magic-scaling mods though? Destruction feels hugely underpowered for Expert, I can only imagine how bad it is on Legendary... Minions fall easily, but what about the tougher enemies?

Also what kind of armor do you wear? I guess must have done some smithing?

Remember you can use Master of the Mind + Call to Arms to buff your undead. Add the Ritual Stone for even more undead once per day.

Here, I knitted you a cap to wear, while you think about it.

You could wear the Gauldur amulet, as well as several others that boost Magicka...of course, that's the only one I thought of, which makes me sad. I really should play again.

lol @ happy_daiz; that's great!

This morning I woke up early so before going to work I fired up Skyrim and looted all the homes and buildings in Whiterun. Meanwhile everyone went about their morning business in the rain and thunder. Kinda miss The Witcher's AI where NPCs would hide under the eaves when it rained. In Skyrim they just mill around as if it was perpetually dry and sunny.

To be fair,Nords are 50% resistant to Cold. But the Wet & Cold mod among others does have the seek shelter or wear rain/ snow gear improvements.

Hmmm, I'll check that mod out. thanks for the tip.

I live in the northwestern USA where people are used to rain/snow ~6 to 9 months out of the year. However, we don't stand in it letting ourselves become drenched, if there's a dry place to be found nearby. Posted Image

@ Endurium - Pacific Northwest? I am jealous; I love that neck of the woods.

Well, at least it's not like Dragon's Dogma, where every time you fast travel from Bitterblack Island to Cassardis, you see the same kid running past you, in the same location, every.single.time. And the same NPCs are in the same places. Sure, they move around like in Skyrim, and head home at night, but something is amiss. I had never really noticed a Groundhog Day theme in the game before, but now that I've seen it, it can't be unseen.

But back to Skyrim, yeah, it would be nice if NPCs noticed such things. I would expect them to drop whatever they're doing when there's an aurora borealis, and just stare at it. I would. Hehe.

I've always wondered, who are the bad guys in the game? The Stormcloaks or the Imperials? After hearing both sides, it's kind of hard to tell.

Alduin, and the dragons serving him.

The Imperials and Stormcloaks are merely warring factions. The lesser bad guy is whichever side you disagree with. You can choose neutrality (focusing on dragons entirely) but will lose out on most CW quests by going that route.

A shame the game mainly isn't about fighting the Thalmor. Just generic dragon baddies.

Oh, okay, that's interesting. I'm still in the first hours of the game so it mainly seemed like the war was the main focus of the games and the dragons were in the background.
