I don't think anyone not already very familiar with Morrowind and Oblivion could go back and really enjoy them now. They're both games you had to have "been there" for to really appreciate. But I do just genuinely feel Morrowind was a more memorable game overall.

I'm there to prove you wrong. I haven't played Morrowind before roughly 2 months ago, that's when I first picked up Morrowind and first started playing it. I can tell you, I'm having a blast with that game.

Despite the fact that the gameplay is clearly outdated, it's still A LOT of fun to play and the environment is really memoriable, more so than Skyrim if you ask me.

It should take place in the Summerset Isle or Argonia.

I had to stop when every bandit was dropping ebony equipment and even after spending 15 mintues blocking a mudcrab I still somehow messed up leveling up.  You're probably right about the guild quest lines, mechanically the game is just too poor for me to enjoy.

That's one of the reasons I don't really buy the Skyrim is dumbed down arguments.  So many of the changes they made were targeted at rectifying stuff that was legitimately pisspoor, not for appealing to the so called "console kiddies."

I think I enjoy Bethesda games more because I don't play the same character forever.  By the time bandits are dropping ebony, I'm done with the game.  The leveling doesn't bother me because I don't play on higher difficulties so I basically ignore it.  That's why I never missed it in TESV.

My main problem with Morrowind is that it gives me motion sickness and headaches.  That is exacerbated by the fact that you have to run so slooooooowly and stare at the screen for an hour to get anywhere.

That's the thing, I just got to maybe level 15 and bandits were dropping glass and ebony equipment as if Walmart had a special.  I do admit I am biased in that if I don't feel like the game doesn't present a logical combat format its a dealbreaker, but when mechanically your MAGE needs to pick NON-mage skills and practice blocking with a SHIELD to be a relatively stronger mage when leveling up, someone on the development team needs to be fired.

I am cool with you and others liking the game - hell it was received well enough to make Skyrim hugely anticipated so it must have done a lot right - just for me it had *very* conspicuous and obvious bad mechanics that are deal breakers.

Where the heck is Argonia? I don't remember that seeing that on the map of tamriel. But I agree it should take place in Summerset Isle, I really want to destroy those monkey ****ing Thalmor.

Well, I can't relate to the motion sickness issue, but I'm sure it made the game unplayable for you.
But the second part... For me one of the biggest advantages of Morrowing was total freedom. With some time spent and practice... and maybe a powerfull enchantment, you could move blazingly fast in that game! Jump nearly sky-high. Heck, LEVITATE! everywhere, instead of circling mountain ranges trying to get access to the higher parts, like in Skyrim.
I've felt like Flash traversing the deserts. The freedom was incredible!

I very much regret Oblivion removed many of these effects.

Well, speaking of Oblivion, I just purchased it off Steam last night. I am one of those who actually liked it, (landscapes, dungeons, quests [especially the DB], etc) very much. I, of course, agree with most that the leveling system was terrible and character design was atrocious, verging on repulsive. But I still managed to enjoy it.

First time I played it was on 360, and now I finally get to play it modded! Just finished the install. Any mod recommendations? I'd really like to clean up the character design first, so any broad brushstroke mods that do that for NPCs? Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

But you have to get to that part first, and I can't.

As for Oblivion mods, like I said, I experimented with some and ended up playing mostly vanilla again.  I suppose the things that bother other people about the game don't bother me, and making the mods work was too much work when I'd rather be playing.

No Obsolete Loot and Enemies
Leveling system still sucks but enemies are easier since they don't level with you and are not armed to the teeth.  I don't play without this.

I don't see any mods that change the looks of all npcs.

Hey guys- How many plot threads are tied in to Dragonborn from the main Questline?

(Thinking about getting it soon...)

Not much connection between the DLC and main game. You get a few different dialogue options depending on if you finished the MQ, finished Hermaeus Mora's quest, and there's one or two small side quests related to people you meet, for instance one related to the Thieves' Guild. Some of the fetch quests from Solstheim have you going back to Skyrim for stuff.

Found one: "Oblivion Character Overhaul."  Need to get a bit further into the game to see how extensive the overhaul is. The few NPCs I've met thus far, look much better.

^Good lord, I'm glad there's a mod that fixes that, looks way better with the mod. What were they thinking when they designed the models like that?

Yep. Have walked around for a while now.  It's a massive improvement.

It's a new mod, it's only been up since May 25th.  Here's the link to make it easier if others are interested:

I call him the Bananna Bomber whenever I went to Kvatch, he'd run up to me and crash my game.

IMO, if we are going to allow former TES discussions to flourish on this thread, then we also need to allow ESO discussions in fairness to all.

No, there's a significance to  them,  but no one as been able to puzzle it out yet.  If you rotate those jars so that you can look at the inside of  their lids,  you'll see strange writing.

It has to mean something, but  it's stumped the sleuths so far.

In my humble opinion, Morrowind is a good game but after playing Oblivion i just can't go back to Morrowind. I like the story, but I was never able to play Morrowind for more than 1 hour before I got fed up with the annoying combat system and uninstalled the game.

It's daedric writing, but yeah I'm not aware of anyone figuring out what it means, if anything. Moths have mythic significance so maybe there's something there, maybe it's just the spell that keeps the bug alive. A lot of spellcraft is written in daedric.
