IMO, if we are going to allow former TES discussions to flourish on this thread, then we also need to allow ESO discussions in fairness to all.

TES Lore- Imperials

Slightly covers the period in which Molag Bal does his deeds in the 2nd Era, hence ESO.

Well, speaking of Oblivion, I just purchased it off Steam last night. I am one of those who actually liked it, (landscapes, dungeons, quests [especially the DB], etc) very much. I, of course, agree with most that the leveling system was terrible and character design was atrocious, verging on repulsive. But I still managed to enjoy it.

First time I played it was on 360, and now I finally get to play it modded! Just finished the install. Any mod recommendations? I'd really like to clean up the character design first, so any broad brushstroke mods that do that for NPCs? Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

No Obsolete Loot and Enemies
Leveling system still sucks but enemies are easier since they don't level with you and are not armed to the teeth.  I don't play without this.

I don't see any mods that change the looks of all npcs.

Found one: "Oblivion Character Overhaul."  Need to get a bit further into the game to see how extensive the overhaul is. The few NPCs I've met thus far, look much better.

um yeah it's worth it, I'll be getting it next time I play Oblivion.  Another must have mod.

Damn, what mod is that?

Oblivion Character Overhaul. http://oblivion.nexu...com/mods/43612/

It's a one-stop, single mod fix for one of the two most terrible aspects of the game.  It fixes all NPC faces (or at least improves them) in the game. And I've actually just found a leveling overhaul for the other. Just have to add on the Oblivion script extender to run it and see if it works.

I've been thinking about reinstalling Oblivion, actually, so thank sfor that mod.

But to be fair, those faces looked really good back in the day, especially after coming from Morrowind vanilla faces.

But it wouldn't be Oblivion without that moment of horror when a character turns around to face you and the camera zooms up on a face so ugly that by all rights he shouldn't alive.

I played Oblivion with stock characters once before, and after that have used one or another character redesigns. I like this one a lot and have bookmarked it for when I have time to download.

Morrowind NPCs look considerably better with the Better Bodies mod, btw.

Tried playing Skyrim in a window this weekend to see if I could avoid the door-lag. Seemed to work okay but locked up trying to load any game saved in the outdoors, and after about an hour of play when I tried to return to the outdoors from an interior map. I'm thinking one of the mods I recently installed might be causing that, as it wasn't an issue before. Ran out of time this weekend to check so will have to worry about it next weekend.

Anyone have a mod for Oblivion where the camera just stays up, over their shoulder like in Skyrim?

Here is one I cannot recall seeing before.

After reading a Black Book and receiving and dealing with a Draemora Merchant, my DB left the caves only to find a pack of wolves a short distance away; all dead. Using Predator Vision, a hunting dog is spotted a little ways down the trail, but no master. As my DB is a Wood Elf, and tries to spare wildlife when possible, I used a three word Kyne's Peace Shout, only to get a message that the dog is too powerful for the magic to pacify, so the Bosmer approached carefully as there was no sign of hostility.

The Elf tried to speak, and the dog looked up, and the Draemora Merchant inventory reopened. The 'dog' apparently wanted to tag along, but commands would only offer Stay or Go Home options; chose the latter. It sadly started back up the trail, and faded from view just over the next rise.

Sad thing; my character was rather encumbered, but the dog was still almost out of gold....

This will depend on what you are looking for in your game. However, I recommend:

* Project Reality: Climates of Tamriel - my fave weather and lighting mod;, and top mod overall.

* WATER - makes the water a little cleaner and enhances actions such as rapids, waterfalls, etc.

* XCE - Xenius Character Enhancement - makes the faces less blocky, and appear to have smoother appearances.

And I highly advise looking at Gophervids tutorials on SKSE, BOSS and Load Order, etc; extrememly informative and easy to follow.

You can work your way through the Nexus Top 100 and d/l what you like.  The Unofficial Patches are a must, everything else is up to you.  Also SkyUI is #1 for a reason.

That depends on what you're looking for. I can suggest some very good overhauls for Vampires and Werewolves. For vampires I'd suggest Better Vampires and Royal Bloodlines. They both modify vampires and vampire lords, but the second one is more toward vampire lords, they are both compatible, you'd just need to follow the load order instructions. For werewolves I'd say Werewolf Mastery and Moonlight tales, the first one allows you to modify things like health, stamina, "armor", magical resistance, transformation duration and cooldowns while Moonlight tales makes werewolves much more immersive since they can spawn randomly, infect you or any npcs they attack. It also has a function in which you can transform depending on how the moon is out. Both are compatible too, since both authors decided to work together to engineer a patch of sorts.

I saw this outside of a BMV. There was a boy of 16 inside waiting for his license exam. I can't help but thinking this was his car.

Here is some technical info that many hre may wish to know concerning Skyrim. I barely understand it myself, but this may better inform those that mod and put timee and money into their systems:

Oh yeah, that problem. Its the result of Skyrim being a 32 bit application. Before Bethesda patched the game to use "4GB" it could use only two, which means it probably wasn't even close to 2GB and you'd probably crash the game if you got close to 2GB like it works with 3.1GB. This problem could have been avoided if they had made 64 bit version, it'd also utilize the vast resources of PCs that have more than 4GB as well. I think it also has some bad resource management if the game is truly loading textures through RAM instead of VRAM.

This happens mainly because of consoles, they didn't design 64 bit because it wasn't necessary for consoles and because I bet consoles wouldn't even be able to use something like that anyways.

^ Thanks for the easier explanation. Guess getting an upgraded system and vid card for Skyrim really does not make a lot of cents.... :P

Nope, no matter what you get whether its some sort of technological marvel or an ancient fossil, if you get past 3.1 GB it means instant CTD. This same limitation also exists for New Vegas and probably every other bethesda game, except that this time Bethesda patched Skyrim to run on "4GB" RAM.

That's why its not a good idea to use mods that add a lot of objects or npcs and/or using high resolution textures on everything, otherwise the CTDs start happening often.

And so my dislike of consoles affecting my PC games grows further (or rather, dislike of Devs hamstringing my PC copy of the game because they can't be bothered to compile a PC-only 64-bit binary lacking these aging memory limits.)

I'll grab that program and monitor my game this weekend; no doubt I'm pushing the limit.

Trust me, minimal thought had been put into PS3 version of the game. Even after patches my game still freezes at over 200 hours (I had no idea). Everytime I travel to Solstheim from Skyrim or vice versa I have to save, quit the game, and restart. Becauset the framerate is <5. If there happened to be a dragon waiting at Windhelm I'm dead like a Dragur.

Yeah I know, seems like they designed it for 360 in mind. Nonetheless, the PS3's problems happen because it has dificulties with Skyrim's engine and they never thought of dealing with that and it isn't just a problem that's unique to Skyrim. It happened with New Vegas as well, that game became more unstable as more DLCs were added to it. Its a problem with Gamebryo and one they did not eliminate with Skyrim's engine which is derivated from gamebryo. I believe someone at Obsidian mentioned that problem.

Well got my giant Collectors Edition guide from Amazon, took over a month to deliver but whatever =P

Actually its really useful and its interesting reading outcomes and strategies I never even considered. Like the Riekling outcome for Thrask Mead Hall. Yeah glad I never went that direction.

Seeing the builds though is giving me the strong urge to start a new character but cant afford to lose 100+ hours right now.

I love Serana, but Skyrim is starting to get filled with Ashpiles everywhere because of this.  Its starting to get a bit annoying.  Not enough to ditch her though.

As I recall, I modified Serana to remove her ability to raise corpses. They confused me more often than not.

Also, grats on getting the book.
