So I've been wondering...I keep seeing a message on load screens about converting your existing skills to Legendary Skills, as of patch version 1.9.

Have any of you guys done it? Is the point just to be able to go above the level 81 level cap? The reason I'm asking is that I've got Sneak nearly maxed, and wasn't sure if I should bother making it Legendary.

I'm not sure about Sneak being useful above 100, but Enchanting above 100 can benefit you because Grand/Black/Daedric soul gems are only capped by your Enchanting level, so you can get some godly enchants that way :D

If you make your skills legendary, they reset to 15.  Yes, that means you go from master of stealth to complete noob.

If you asking what are the benefits, well, there are none for the skill you are legendary in: you are a total noob.

But you do get all the perks back in said skill...you can reinvest these in other skills and make them better.  it also theoretically removes the level cap since once you start reaquiring ranks in Stealth, that contributes to overall character level.

It is really re-training than becoming legendary.

Ahh ok, thanks! It seemed kind of pointless to me, but I thought maybe I just wasn't getting it.

I think with Sneak, I'll just keep that maxed, and not bother with making it Legendary. It's kind of fun just walking up to enemies, and not having them see me for once.

I'm also thinking it will help in Solstheim. IIRC, it seemed like the Draugr and everything else on that island could hear me coming from miles away, so I never had the element of surprise.

I was reading up on that patch on uesp, and saw that it fixed the naked couriers. That makes me a little sad. Posted Image

Yeah, sure there were many MMO console games, but where are they now? Most never make it to something like WoW but I guess the same applies to MMOs. I still think it is a desperate move. I don't think ESO will go well for Bethesda, they're counting on fan loyalty to make it work and from what I've seen or heard people who play TES games don't want something like ESO.

But...I'm someone who plays TES games. Aren't all of us in this thread? Do you want ESO?

Nope, I don't mean everyone of course, but I personally think they're counting on that factor. I know there are a lot of people who do not want ESO. I don't like MMOs and ESO doesn't seem to be very lore friendly anyway.

The only reason I was interested in ESO at all was to fill the year delay in getting DAI. But as I do not wish to pay a sub fee to play Skyrim w/o Pause features, I shall pass.

I have used Legendary on Skills that were secondary only, but overall I believe it is rather useless.

So, if I could care less about leveling two-handed, specific schools of magic, or light armor, but dig one-handed, blocking, heavy armor, archery and conjuration, I can reset those 5 skills back to 15 on Legendary and still move up toward level (Infinity?), since I stall out my character's actual level, being that I ignore, or have no interest in, certain skills?

Sort of like prestige-ing or promoting MP characters?

Really? I never snuck around much in Solstheim myself, although I did it quite a bit on Skyrim (especially with my assassin); my Riekling companion wasn't really stealthy, and I really enjoyed fighting alongside companions for a change - especially Teldryn Sero.

I'm curious, do you know if heading to Solstheim early (pre-Dragonborn discovery) allows you to work for Neloth?

@Barbarossa - Seems like you could burn (make Legendary) the ones you don't care about (two-handed, light armor, etc), to gain the stat increases in Health, Magicka and Stamina, if nothing else, when you level up. Right? Then use the perks on the ones that you do? Heck, I don't know.

Maybe it was just my experience, but I could have sworn that every enemy saw me whether I was in sneak or not, and it was kind of  frustrating. I eventually just threw a Dremora Lord in each room before I entered it.

I bet you could work for Neloth as soon as you meet him? Not sure, but it's worth trying. P.S. I love Teldryn Sero. ;)

Yep, I normally go there ASAP to get bound dagger and poison rune. Ash spawn are miserable early game though,

You'll be gimping yourself if you reset combat skills.  Speech and Lockpicking are the best skills to legendarize once they reach 100.  You can also reset the crafting skills once you've made what you need.

Combat skills like 1-handed and archery will re-level *really* fast.

Good god, I finally escaped from Forelhost last night.

I'd taken a couple of days off, because I was feeling ill, and the game had locked up when I last played, so I just kind of left it. I had no idea where I'd be starting, because of the crash, but happily, it was right outside the well, so I didn't have a whole lot left to go.

Even by taking the well 'shortcut', there were still a whole lot of stinking Draugr. Rahgot was actually a breath of fresh air after the horde.

I was a little sad to see that so many of the Deathlords had been replaced with Hulking Draugr throughout the dungeon. I mean, they're easier, but it's still a little weird to see them everywhere now, due to Dragonborn.

I just thought of something.  I think you have rolled more Khajit DBs than anyone else in this thread :wizard:

Really? I've only got 3 Khajiit Dragonborn:

J'Azam-Ali (above)
Ahdaira
Ashirani

Unless you meant Smudge. He's the most badass Khajiit of them all. Posted Image

Seeing how there are 9 races, I'd say that's a lot!

I have a lot of characters. I thought I had 19, but I actually have 20. It's kind of ridiculous:

3 Khajiit
3 Bretons
3 Orcs
2 Redguards
2 Dunmer
2 Bosmer
2 Imperials
1 Nord
1 Altmer
1 Argonian

...So on another topic, I'm getting ready to murder Gaius Maro for the DB. What have you guys found to be the best location to kill him in, and how? I seem to always get caught, and have to fight my way out, but I've mostly tried it in Riften and Markarth. Once in Whiterun, and that actually turned out ok.

You can catch Gaius alone in Whiterun's inn. It's tough to get him walking around the city because there are so many people around. There is usually less attention inside buildings. I once got him in Windhelm's Palace of the Kings (!) and if your illusion skill is high enough, you can get him to go bezerk and hilarity ensures when gaurds, shopkeepers, and people like Nazeem all gang up on him.

Illusion is my favorite way to do the DB quests. If the guards aren;t directly doing the dirty work for me, then I am, in the eyes of the law, an innocent victim who the guards try to help :wizard:

My assassin slit his throat in the guard tower at Markarth with Mehrunes' Razor, while the slumbering guards were none the wiser. He had a high stealth skill, and incurred no bounty; stealth kills are my preference for deaths in the Dark Brotherhood (both in Skyrim and Cyrodiil, although the kill cam makes it more interesting for me in Skyrim).

I see you have a Khajiit amigo to play Skyrim with! B)

Yes! I absolutely love stealth and had a great time with it in Oblivion. I had to mod Skyrim a bit to make it work better.

LOL  Wow!  That's a nice even spread.  Mine is more like:

12 Orcs
7 Nords
3 Redguards
1 Dunmer
1 Breton
1 Bosmer
1 Imperial
1 Khajiit
1 Argonian
0 Altmer

No Imperials for me; have only a couple of Argonians, Khajiit, and Redguard, and several of the rest. Bretons are my favored race due to Magic Resistance.
