OK; that was creepifying....

For those that like shivers and goose bumps, try going thru White Ridge Barrow on Solstheim and avoid killing the spiders. I was using Kyne's Peace, trying to speed my way, and seeing the hundreds of large purple glowing arachnids surrounding me was too reminiscent of Aliens. While not an archanaphobe, this was singularly the largest Halloween scare I encountered this year.

I didn't realize you could avoid killing the spiders with Kyne's Peace, since I thought their inception might cause them to work differently than normal creatures and animals. I also spent some of Halloween in Solstheim - Apocrypha, as well, with nothing but a tiny candlelight to guide me through the seemingly perpetual darkness.

Some cannot be enthralled; many Flaming Jumpers seem to be too powerful or mutated for the Shout. But the prior restriction made to try and not hurt any of them makes the experience more suspenseful; using Sneak instead of squish.

Apocrypha is properly creepy, too. However, I tend to have more problems due to missing a jump rather than the creatures. This is not so scary as frustrating.

Man, I stumbled upon some pretty slick custom character sliders for Skyrim earlier.

www.truancyfactory.com/mods/skyrim/warDog.html

Goraz looks especially bad ass. I'm rolling a Dunmer now just to use him.

The site also has sliders for females PCs as well as sliders to recreate most of the NPCs in the game. Check it out.

I started playing the Falskaar mod. It's really well done, I recommend it.

Though I have not played it, the Let's Play Falskaar vids did illustrate how visually stunning the mod could be. Extremely well done here; lots of locations worthy of screenies!

Okay ...please tell me I am not the only person who when they get perfect touch steals everyone's clothes then runs away into the night laughing?

Because I did it, and my friend does it too and we were both talking about it last night.
What even drives people to do that?

Though in my friends case he always leaves the guards helmets.

I was wondering about that.  I trust your recommendations, I'll DL my next playthrough.

Can someone explain to me what I am not seeing with SkyUI? It has been the most popular downloaded mod forever, but what does it actually do to make the game better? Maybe I have the settings wrong or something, but all I noticed is that its makes the menus and fonts smaller and you have to scroll horizontally on the top to go from armor to weapons to potions instead of vertically on the side.

I'm not asking to be a troll, I'm asking because the Skyrim vanilla UI is an abomination and can't even compare with games I've played during the Clinton administration. If SkyUI actually "fixes" this, I'd like to know how.

Pls be aware that once installed, it seems to be required to remain installed due to size.

For many, the Value/ Weight option is desired. For me, the larger number of options is the reason I like it, plus the inclusion of the MCM functionality. Being able to configure the UI to personal preferences is a great bonus.

I've been thinking about whether or not to pursue the Stormcloaks with a Telvanni protagonist. My original mage run (when Skyrim was released, and after my Dark Brotherhood assassin run) involved a Tribunal mage (given the return of the Hand face paint option for the Dunmer in customization), but Neloth inspired me towards a Telvanni revision for my mage (as well as the Reclamations and the disbanding of the Tribunal temples with the fall of the Tribunal and the Red Year nudging me towards a different direction for the character).

My latest run through Solstheism has me thinking about whether Morrowind's apparent sovereignty from the Empire might be strengthened with an independent Skyrim as it's neighbor, given Ulfric's interest in dealing with the Thalmor head on, while the Legionaire troops stationed at the Rift (if you broker a temporary truce or side with Tullius in the civil war) mention a possible incursion into Morrowind. I'd appreciate anyone's input on this.

I've also pondered whether or not to pursue the Dark Brotherhood with this character. I've actually never done it as a mage (the enchantment on the robe was a bit too weak when I initially condidered about it prior to the DLCs being released, and I ended up destroying the organization instead). He's not really the type who would submit to anyone, Daedra included (although he doesn't mind taking their toys), but given how I'm likely going to go the Volkihar route (since I'm doing a werewolf with another character), it might go hand in hand for the "Deceiving the Herd" quests). I could justify the Thieves Guild, since he needed currency for academics at the College (as well as the Skeleton Key), but I'm not so sure about the Dark Brotherhood. For purely asthetic reasons, I could also get Bryling's Fine Armguards after the wedding, when her essential flag is removed (I'm on console). Any thoughts?

Thinking that I might end up revising my assassin (who isn't magically inclined in combative magic, and instead uses daggers in stealth and was using the Ebony blade in head on combat in my original run) into a member of fallen House Hlaalu, which could be one reason why that character would side with the Empire in the civil war.

I personally like it for MCM and because it makes looking for things easier, it also adds in that favorites groups thing which makes managing the inventory way easier. Skyrim's normal inventory is terrible for PCs, it is tedious to look for things in that thing. It's also nice that SkyUI adds in a search function too.

As to why it is so populart, I can't really say, at least that's the most popular mod and not some porno mod or god knows what..

Are one of these options to make the menus larger?

Well. I use larger fonts due to vision problems; the main reason I began utilizing SkyUI in the first place. Thus the only small menus I have seen are for Groups and the like, and I really do not use these at all. Sorry.

My Dunmer is a Stormcloak.  He's not Telvanni, but my roleplay is that he came to Skyrim looking for artifacts on behalf of the Telvanni. My reasoning on the civil war is like you said, and also the fact that the empire made him an outlaw for no reason. A bit of payback.  Mainly because an independent Skyrim + independent Cyrodiil= neither of them strong enough to threaten Morrowind anytime soon.

You know I simply love thinking about Paarthurnax (the Quest)

It just is shocking seeing the Blades think you will do everything they ask.
I kinda like imaging Delphine sitting with Esbern going "Any day now he will come back!"

Then they both die of old age.
Ha.

I'm  curious as to  why  this isn't cited more often.

A question for those who role play their side-taking:  How exactly  do you justify siding with the entity who sentenced you to death without trial,  and who knew, before sending you to the chopping block, that you're not on their list of people to  be executed?

For me, it is because the Empire is larger than any one man or woman. I find plenty of soldiers and citizens of citizens in the game that are worthy of respect; none of these are Ulfric. While Tullius is certainly no gem, there are other officers I do like including a couple of his subordinates.

Plus, I usually kill the Captain that chose my death for her heavy armor.... Image IPB

Ha, well, for me that usually is the reason why I stay away from the empire. Most of my characters ran the hell away with Ralof in the prologue.

Both my characters joined the Legion, but not for the same reasons.

My Imperial is kind of a knight errant, and full of love and forgiveness. She knows mistakes happen, especially during war time, and the behavior of Hadvar, and later Tullius and Rike, was enough to wipe the slate clean. She's a true Imperial, both in blood and heart, and she wants peace restored in Skyrim.

My Khajiit is a disreputable one... Poaching, thieving, burglary, murder... Yeah, the Legion probably had a good reason for arresting her and sentencing her to death, even if they didn't know it ^_^ She stayed away from the civil war for a long time, and first thought about joining the Stormcloaks. But after meeting Ulfric and Galmar... not so much. She eventually joined the Legion to end the war, but let's face it, because a united Skyrim as a part of the Empire is much more profitable for trade. Running a Guild of Thieves in an independent, but impoverished and recluse Skyrim did not seem like a good idea in the long run. She does not believe in the Legion ideals. It's just business.

This sums up my feelings nicely, plus the Imperials didn't do wrong by me in Oblivion when the Emperor put faith in me and Martin became my friend. Individuals can be idiots, but I don't have any qualms with the Empire as a whole, at least in this part of the timeline. (I know it's no shining example sometimes. haha).

A question I've always asked, being that I seem incapable, in practice, of ever siding with the Imperials.

Maybe I'm just an anti-establishmentarian...or perhaps, I just have a deep and abiding distaste for the Empire's notion of due process.

Thank you, Addai. Interesting backstory for your character. About the division of the Empire and an autonomous Skyrim - that's a fairly good point. It looks like Skald's decision to reward my Dunmer mage with an estate in the Pale will pay off.

Out of curiousity, how did your Dunmer respond to Astrid's invitation?

Some of the comments in Dragonborn (about the Reclamations, Blacklight, the resentment against the Empire by the Dunmer in Morrowind, and the inquiries about the Dunmer political system) lead me to think the character must have suffered some form of amnesia because of the capture.

Generally speaking, the independence of Hammerfell and the (possible) secession of Skyrim is changing the landscape. I'm curious to see how the next Elder Scroll game handles it.
