heh! While I tend towards Greatswords, a trick I have learned with Stealth is to let them come to you. One of the best moments is the Kill-Cam one gets when the victim realizes that closing with the DB was not the best option; fave way to get the Golden Claw.

The Daedric quest I dislike the most is... well, the entire Thieves Guild quest line, really. Getting railroaded into serving Nocturnal really pissed me off. Especially since the stakes include, y'know, my soul.

Gee, thanks Karliah for showing up out of nowhere and forcing me to give up my soul for the rest of eternity just so I can kill Mercer Frey. I'm sure the Dovahkiin, who has slain dragon gods, ancient vampire lords, the first Dragonborn in history, and numerous other powerful foes couldn't handle some thief with a fancy key on his own.

Perhaps Hircine, Nocturnal, Hermaeus Mora, and Akatosh will end up going to war for possession of the Dovahkiin's soul. That would actually be somewhat interesting to see, but alas, I doubt we will hear of such a thing.

I see vampirism as a loophole in the pact with Nocturnal. You can't pledge your eternal soul to perpetual servitude to Nocturnal when you don't have one. And I rather like the implications about the Skeleton Key unlocking more than simply doors.

EDIT: I just discovered a pretty monstrous poison recipe. Imp Stool + Skeever Tail + Scathecraw = complete health destruction. It immediately takes 60 Health (30 of which is permanent) and continues doing 15 points of damage for 10 seconds afterward. I'll have to make more of these, preferably with Fortify Alchemy gear on next time.

I'll check that out. I need to start creating potions.

I don't bother much about all the pacts and that. This isn't a Judeo-Christian universe with salvation and damnation. You'll go to your aligned place, which means where you've oriented your beliefs and actions, not just in one moment but in general. There's no big judge in the sky pronouncing this or that. The thing that the daedra princes hope is that you'll be so addicted to power or chaos that you'll embrace lackey status and become naturally aligned to them.

As for ESO, I don't care what they do or whether they flop or succeed, as long as I never have to deal with it.

Perhaps, as I dislike MMO's as a rule. But not to toss babies with bathwater, I do like the CC that is on display, as well as adding Racial benefits to make some races a bit more appealing. If there are things worthy of note to come from ESO, I am more than willing to see these in a future TES project.

I've been using a Shield + Mace + Bone Breaker perks. I find Legendary difficulty impossible without a shield (starting out, at least), and the mace is simply far more damaging than swords and axes.

Sadly, as effective as that combo is most of the time, mages and boss level enemies are still tough nuts to crack... and I can't wait a few dozen levels before good enchantments start showing up. I need to be effective in combat now... which is where poisons come in. A lot of the most useful poisons come from common ingredients like Deathbell, Nightshade, Nirnroot, Butterfly Wings, Salt Piles, Hanging Moss, etc.

It's also a very versatile skill in that it can fill in for certain magic skills like Illusion, Alteration, etc. with its potions and poisons, and you can also heavily boost Destruction damage by using Weakness to Fire/Frost/Shock poisons and Fortify Destruction potions.

And best of all, it's easy to train. I try not to raise it too fast, but get good enough that poisons put a real hurtin' on dangerous enemies like Bandit Chiefs. It's a real pity I waited so long to really use Alchemy, as it could have really helped me in past playthroughs.

Oh yeah, Alchemy can make all the difference.

I started my flower-mushroom-etc.-picking obsession in Oblivion. My husband hated watching me play, as I would pick every.single.thing, and loot every single barrel. I spent more time unloading my ingredients, and making new potions and poisons than I did anything else.

And good lord, do you guys remember having to tote around an Alembic, Calcinator, Mortar & Pestal, and Retort? I do not miss that.

What is humorous to me is that in almost every LPS I have watched, an Alchemist DB becomes obsessed with harvesting and ingredients. In his first alchemical playthrough, enjoy Gopher in this shorter vid during the Dragon attack at about 4 minutes:

I really enjoyed that. Nice to watch another's interpretation of their own PC. I suppose this is why I've grown to like Bethesda games over most other games with predefined characters.

ASIS looks interesting, but for now I'm getting my combat fix through 'More NPCs,' which adds to the number of encounters vice larger/smarter encounters.

Another good vid Joy.

ASIS is pretty good, I used to have it, it adds loads of stuff like encounters, combat, NPCs with potions, more spawns and more intelligent AI. However, the mod wasn't really finished, it doesn't cause problems or anything but the author never had the time. It also has a patcher to make it compatible with most other mods,  nonetheless there are some which cannot work with ASIS, but there's a solution for that too. it has a text file for exclusions where you can add the names of the mods that don't work with ASIS so that the patcher does not put them as masters or even consider them at all.

As for the competition aspect, most of the WvW population in GW2 will flock to it, primarily due to poor support of the WvW mode. Eve is a niche game and WoW is declining.

The most competition is likely to come from Wildstar actually given that they are both aiming to launch in the same quarter. They are quite different games however. The combination of WS and TESO is likely to kill off most of the Guild Wars 2 population.

I think I've heard this before as well and it doesn't inspire any confidence in me that ESO will ever get anywhere. Maybe it will or maybe it wont, but I don't see it as something that will attract a lot of people. I don't think it will get very far.

Sure they do.    They are the worst puppeteers.

-Sheogorath *literally* kidnaps you from reality and holds you hostage in someone's mind.    And  unlike all the other Daedric Princes, he does not allow you to reject his demands.

-Meridia makes his demand of you the second you get his beacon.  And if you're foolish enough to follow through and go to mount Kilkreath, you are  then  physicially lifted about 1000 feet in the air and given more demands.  In mortal-speak, this  the same as someone holding a gun to your head and telling you to do something.   Oh,  and you'll be a Meridia's  servant while doing that quest, and  Meridia's champion when you're done.

-Hercine and Sanguine may be "cool", and "fun",    but they use you for their own personal amusement.   They do not  see you as anything more than  a  vermin who does tricks.    Hercine asks you to become his champion and engage in a  pointless cat & mouse chase  while he watches.    Sanguine  makes a fool out of you for the lulz.     In many ways,   this kind of stuff is   worse than what the other Daedra ask you to do, because  it's   demeaning.  Not just evil.

And these 4 are no different than Malacath, for example.  No I take that back.  They're worse.  At least the Demand that Malacath makes is a natural one:  He asks you to prove your strength in battle if you wish to lift a curse that has been inflicted upon a tribe of his followers  -    That's called Questing btw... or problem solving, or ego-stroking  -  something most "Heros" would  gladly do even if they weren't asked.

They still seem like the "nicer" Daedra compared to the likes of Molag Bal, Boethia, Mehrunnes Dagon, Hermaeus Mora and Peryite.

They're Daedra. They call the hellish  planes of Oblivion home. When a Daedric prince seems "nice" it's because he happens to be   particularly skilled in the art of  deception and dishonesty.

If anything, you should  respect    the  not-very-nice  Daedric Princes like  Boethiah and Mephala more because at least they don't mask their true natures/intentions when they deal with you.

WoW isn't going anywhere anytime soon despite a "mere" 7 million subscribers (which will increase sharply when the next expansion hits), and ESO certainly poses no threat to it.

Anyway, I'm still looking out for good poisons, mainly good poisons to use on mages. There's a Damage Magicka + Damage Magicka Regen one, but I have yet to test it. It's imperative that I'm able to cripple enemies like Hagravens and Necromages early, otherwise I'm dead in one Fireball/Ice Storm or less.

I need to figure out a good anti-vampire strategy as well since they're immune to poison. The only truly exploitable weakness they have is fire as well as a few Restoration spells and enchantments, but their Vampiric Drain fills their health back up fast on Legendary.

I love how Legendary has me really sitting down and strategizing. Makes for a more interesting game overall IMHO as I have to really tailor my combat tactics for different enemies as opposed to just whacking everything with a mace or stealth killing everything in one hit.

I take it you're not using crafting skills. I just load everyone up with as much magic resist as possible and mages don't pose any threats to us on high levels. Archers, OTOH... Of course I don't play on Legendary.

You don't have the Dawnguard spells? Or Auriel's bow?

Daedric princes aren't really evil. Like I said, they're just who they are, but really devoted to who they are. A more pure form of being, if you will, rather than one with mixed or complex motives. Yet daedra worship forms the basis of Dunmer society. Just a little observation. It would be wrong to think the daedra are the evil gods of the Elder Scrolls universe while the aedra are the good gods.

I don't know, those 4 quests are about the only few I complete with regards to Daedra. At least I don't remember any of them asking your soul in exchange for something. I guess Hircine will get your soul if you're a werewolf but that doesn't happen in his quest anyway. As for the other quests, I fail them deliberately such as with Molag Bal, I just kill that priest on the spot. There's even a mod that makes this quests trigger only if you accept to help, there's even an option to refuse Boethia, in turn she summons some Dremora to try to kill you.

I may just leave that stupid beacon where it is at anyway, that quest is annoying and boring anyway.

Well I'm speaking more about the first few dozen levels or so. Auriel's Bow is an endgame item, and of the new spells only Stendarr's Aura is really useful (and only if in melee range). I do have Dawnbreaker which is quite useful against the weaker draugr and vampires, but less so against boss level ones like Deathlords and Master Vampires. It also harms Serana who is my follower 90% of the time.

As far as Enchanting goes, most of the really good enchantments don't start appearing until later, and even still require 100 Enchanting and perked straight up the middle of the tree to get really good magnitudes on them... so Enchanting is not particularly useful until then.

Poisons work fantastic in the meantime, though. Even at low Alchemy levels you can get some pretty good damage and other nasty effects out of them. I just need to research effects and test poisons out on different enemies to see which ones are the most effective against what sorts of opponents.

Also, I would consider Dagon and Molag Bal to be "evil" in the conventional sense. Their methods and intent are wholly malevolent and often highly destructive (especially in Dagon's case, since he's literally the Daedric Prince of Destruction).

The others range from being malevolent (Namira, Vaermina, etc.) to just being plain ol' self-serving (Azura, Meridia, etc.).

I actually remember something funny about dawnbreaker, one of those Draugr deathlords used disarm so I equipped Dawnbreaker and killed him with, however I was also using a vampire so I killed myself as well. I forgot that those explosions affect the Dragonborn as well if he/she is a vampire.

As for Dagon, I wonder if in the end he was actually victorious. He is the lord of change and the Oblivion Crisis managed to remove the Empire's grip on Tamriel and the Thalmor rose to power. When you think about it, Tamriel is a mess, the Argonians control Southern Morrowind, Vvardenfell's explosion destroyed a big part of Morrowind. Cyrodiil is probably a mess, Skyrim isn't any better. I don't think anyone except for the Altmer and the Argonians are having a nice day.

I wonder if High Rock is in a situation as bad as everyone else. I wonder if they are also considering leaving the Empire as well. I don't think Hammerfell is well at all given that there is infighting between Altmer refugees and the Thalmor in their country. I'm also assumming that the number of Redguard in Skyrim is indicative of their trouble, it seems like every hold has Redguards running around, or at least the major ones do. I'd say that after the Dunmer they're the next largest group of foreigners in Skyrim.

Ah, I guess you could try the restoration tree. It's meant to be anti-undead. Can't say if the spells actually work, I don't use them.

Pretty much, but I still don't think the characterization fits well.  Example Molag Bal, you'd think there's no way that guy could do anything good, but Vivec learned CHIM from him and attempted to use it to teach the Dunmer how to ascend.  There is a lot more to Dagon than meets the eye, too.  Besides MK's suggestion that his state was caused by Alduin as punishment for trying to stop the world from being eaten, he's also the god of change and ambition, which aren't really bad things. The problem is that no daedroth can do anything in moderation- they don't even understand that concept.

They don't mix well with mortals because they have no stake in the project of mortality. No skin in the game. And it's just a game to them.  They're like an image of the player, playing god with NPCs.

This is funny:

Interesting. I wonder why they don't include his stuff on that site in any in-game books - they'd fit right in and provide some more insight into many story elements.

On a side note, there's a guy who has dozens of "Skyrim Battle" videos of different NPCs fighting each other.

https://www.youtube....8?feature=watch

They're all pretty intriguing to watch - I especially liked Arch-Curate Vyrthur vs. Harkon, which proves once and for all who the real "Vampire Lord" is (hint: it's not Harkon).

Also, Miraak really could have killed Alduin if he wanted. Too bad he decided to be Herma-Mora's pet instead, leaving the task up to us thousands of years later.

He wrote Knights of the Nine DLC in Oblivion, and they used some of his obscure lore in Skyrim- the painted cow and part of Heimskr's speech. And he created the White Gold Concordat and the Thalmor so there's that. I don't know why they don't hire him for more. He also applied for ESO and those fools didn't take him.

His writing will be sorely missed in ESO as I'm certain the storylines in that game will be terrible and completely butcher TES lore (which they've arguably done already as someone earlier pointed out).

On the other hand, at least he won't have the stain that is ESO on his good name, so there's a silver lining at least.

The translation of his ideas sometimes missed the mark in the actual game, like with Pelinal Whitestrake and the depiction of Cyrodiil.

And I'm surprised they turned him down - he's a brilliant writer.

Hehe, as a one-time student of ancient history Dagon also means something different to me. In this thread it's just shorthand for Mehrunes Dagon, his full name, of course.

I'm not much of a lore junky when it comes to ES games so I can't contribute to the discussion. I just enjoy the games, and the freedom they offer me to do whatever I please.
