Even w/o cutscenes, I prefer Bioware games. That said, Skyrim is easily one of the top RPG's on my lists, as well as many others.

I wish Rikke could have been talked down off the ledge. She and Ulfric would have made an unstoppable King and Queen. Knowing what we know of her, she would never agree of course, coming from a line of Legionnaires, but I find myself always wishing for it anyway; weirder things have happened. I think the people would have forgiven and forgotten if Ulfric was able to.

Of course, I think many would have been satisfied had Ulfric been marriable to the DB.

Dang it, (I'm your) Barbarossa, we were talking about books! Posted Image

But I'm with you. It would have been cool to get hitched or traverse the countryside with one of those peeps, but Bethesda opted to feast on our tears instead. I believe Addai took matters into her own hands, though...

^Yeah, I was about 17 hours behind on that one conversation...Oooops.  Posted Image  I tend to do that quite a bit, reading back through a thread to catch-up.

But, back on current topic, for what its worth, players who talk about Bethesda's stories being thin, are (in my experience) those that love cut scenes and prefer strictly tempo-ed, movie-style narratives; the one's who don't typically like to read books (Kodlak's Journal is a perfect example) to flesh out their experience; do, or immerse themselves in, quests like Olaf One-Eye; or stretch their imaginations to immerse themselves in the ambient storytelling of whatever dungeon or environment they're in.  Something I believe Bethesda excels at.

The way I see it, if a studio goes the strict, short quick story route with a few choices thrown in to offer moderate deviation, then they better do it really, really, REALLY well; and add enough meaningful choice, with a healthy dose of emotional impact (not late entry narrative breakers that do little more than ****** paying customers off--nuff said) that there's at least some substantial value in replay.

Doesn't make those who prefer such wrong, they're just not looking for the same experience I am.  Probably why I've come to prefer Bethesda much more over Bioware with their recent products.  No, to me, Bethesda writes far better than many are willing to acknowledge.

I've always thought that if Bethesda got their story options and companion writing together, they would be unstoppable. I think they took a huge leap in the right direction with Skyrim, (not perfect by any means, but what an improvement over Oblivion). Bethesda is showing improvement between iterations.  Can't say the same for others.

Hell, we're still debating Empire or Stormcloak two years later. Posted Image

I would have said the same some years ago, but then came DA2 and ME3 creeping around. Right now I prefer New Vegas, Skyrim and Bethesda. We'll see if that changes with DA:I but I really don't think so.

And I prefer even those stories to some of Skyrim. While I enjoy the overall game more than them, only a few storylines were as compelling, IMO.

However, there are some storylines and quests I quite enjoy, adore the exploration of this sandbox, and have hope that the AI will be improved for the sequel. My vote is to see Hammerfell; love desert based themes.

Glad to see a different opinion. I love the ES series, but it can be a downer when the masses call for bloodshed at its very mentioning.

I myself would like Hammerfell as well or the Summerset Isles and I thihnk it will be one of those places if Great War II happens to come by, I'd imagine out of those two places one of them is going to be the main frontline for the war. I'd imagine Cyrodiil would be as well but  I would assume the Thalmor would try to defeat Hammerfell first.

People like to hate on it for some reason, I don't understand myself, for example I know some people at the DA:I forums despise it for some reason. I still remember one guy calling it a complete failure because he didn't like Skyrim or something.

^I assume you got Ulfric to follow you with UFO right? I use AFT, and while it has the same functionality to do that, I don't think it likes it when you try to get "quest" important people to follow you.

But wait, you can tell him to 'Train some, you are weak'? How does he respond to that?

I have UFO and Followers Can Relax, and that works together pretty well with Obedient Ulfric. The "train some, you are weak," is the UFO command for them to level up. There's no dialogue response. Ulfric caps out at level 50. He's pretty effective, though. Only problem is if you get in the way of his thu'um, you end up tossed through the air like a rag doll.

I only recently got into this game.. Loving it so far, but I've never been spoiled with some much choice in a game. D:
I'm finding it hard to decide what to do first..
Ps, raising funds to pay for another clippity clop, the first died charging a dragon while I ran away.

^That's the beauty of choice. Liberating, isn't it!?

Do whatever you want, when you want.

Want to earn coin? Become an expert hunter and level archery as a bonus at the same time, then sell off your pelts...or then again, make leather, then learn smithing and make armor...then sell that...or learn to make jewelry and sell that...

Or...become an expert alchemist, spend your time collecting ingredients, leveling your alchemical skill, then sell your top shelf potions for tons of gold...

Or...learn enchanting and enchant random weaponry you loot, or that armor and jewelry you just made, to make big bucks...

Or... you can just wander about getting yourself into all sorts of trouble, doing side quests, exploring dungeons and caves, and make a few friends along the way...

Your imagination's the limit.

Oh...welcome aboard.

Edit: Nix the horse, and the carriages, for that matter.  Walkabout is what Skyrim is all about.  You'll see.

^That's not very nice, I even think sometimes General Tullius gets carried away with the barbarism, more so than Ulfric. I mean sure, Tullius beat the guy and all but can't he show some respect, instead he says he will adorn the Imperial City with Ulfric's head. No such statements are made by Ulfric as far as I'm aware.
