^ That stuff I could probably get behind.

The ones that I see that make me scratch my head are the appearance mods. Some of the hair mods are kinda...well, ugly, imho. I like my DBs to be rugged and a little dirty; it's more believable, considering the environment. I mean, I DO like to make my DBs pretty, but there's a line in the sand for me, for what is too much. Looking like a model, with flowing, perfect hair is weird.

The biggest hair mod that there is pretty bad, there are others that are more believable and practical. The biggest one is just horrible, the hairs have too much color, they look like what some princess would use or something and the male hairstyles that exist make them  look less like males/warriors.

I just stay away from the image share on the Nexus these days, it seems like breeding ground for all that stuff, and while I don't have to use it or mind that other people use, it still brings up the question of why people would want to make their characters look that way. What's the purpose anyway? A super model in Skyrim wouldn't last 10 minutes without freezing to death or getting shot with an arrow in their "heavily armored" outfits.

Don't even get me started with the japanese/anime stuff, that is probably what I dislike the most out of the nexus.

You're killing me here! But illustrated my point perfectly.

Are we talking chainmail bikinis here? Because I will never understand the appeal of those. Or ginormous ta-tas. The surface area and added weight should be a serious handicap... and should make the DB walk hunched over, and/or require a support bra, with super thick straps.

I am over-thinking this.

Not particularly, but often those "super models" go well with those things, well for those people anyway. Pretty, is one thing but then there's also too pretty which tends to be the norm over there. I don't think a female warrior of all things is going to put on make up before going to kill a group of idiot bandits

I hate the hair mods. I do like subtle mods to make prettier faces, but the hair mods are terrible, and look worse, in game imo. Total immersion breakers. I despise anything anime and avoid even looking at it to spare my innocence. Image IPB

Having said that, most mods I have on in Skyrim, merely extend the experience and make the game better (yes, it could stand improvement!), whether it be an expansion of the vanilla weapons, armor and shields; new quests; nicer water, trees or cities; adding in an actual weather climate; an improved UI (god, does it need it! - SkyUI - 2.5 million unique DLs btw); adding in an alternate start; overhauling followers with UFO, which greatly extends the follower experience; interesting NPCs, which adds in about 200 voiced NPCs into Skyrim; Breezehome tweaks and storage; Unlimited Bookshelves, which makes the bookshelves of Skyrim actually interactive; More NPCs, which adds hunters, bandits and SC, Imperial and Thalmor patrols throughout Skyrim; giving my DB a backpack and bandoliers; and minor mods to expand the crafting system even further.

I added on Battlefields of Skyrim as well, because I do like combat mods, but the great part of that mod is that it removes you from Skyrim proper and takes you to a stand alone arena where you can battle to your heart's content, and simply leave when your done. A great mod to experiment with different things/tactics.

There are a ton of experience extending mods, but unfortunately, there are a ton of crap mods.  But, very few crap mods get the higher endorsements, and that's pretty much how I weed out the majority of the ridiculous add-ons and not even have to look at them. If you don't want to cheat, just avoid the "Cheats and god items" section.

The way I look at it, there are literally thousands of free DLC items for the games I like most, made by the community, who are closest to the game and have the flexibility to fix or add needed things quickly; and 90% of them actually run and integrate well within the game. If they don't, delete them. You want to play it harder, you can do that; you want to cheat your way through it (don't understand why anyone would), but you can do that too. Mods give you freedom to play the game the way you want to play it after you've played the game the way the developers wanted you to.

Armor. Yeah, that's something that stinks in vanilla Skyrim. Especially if you want to wear light armor and not join the TG.

The hide and leather stuff is ok, but the rest of the non-affiliated light armors are crap until you get up to Dragonscale. So...I usually join the TG out of necessity, or go heavy. Not a fan of the DB armors.

I never really had an issue with the UI, tbh. Maybe playing with a controller is easier? One thing I can say for sure is that it's WAY better than the UI in Oblivion. That thing still gives me nightmares, from time to time.

It is easier, well to use the UI it is. The current UI was made for consoles, so it works better with a controller. In PC not so mucn.

I haven't seen the PC ported version of the UI in action, but I assume it would be the exact same thing it is on console, but manipulated via mouse or keyboard?

That seems like it would be a ridiculous amount of clicking. I can't even imagine the level of suck involved in that.

It's pretty easy to take it for granted on console.

I don't use SkyUI, but Categorized Favorites takes care of most of what I need anyway. Plus you can do keyboard mapping and hotkey your main things. It's not great but not horrible, either.

Here's a fearsome dovahkiin if there ever was one.

Being able to see muffle, stoneskin and potion durations?  I cried tears of joy.

@Addai - Oh, the horror! OMG, I can't look. I can't. It's just too awful. And blasphemous to Daedric armor and DBs everywhere.

@blaidfiste - thank you for posting, and saving me from having to look at that abomination. Image IPB

Also, with that mod, are you able to see summon duration? I'm always wondering how much time I have left on my Dremora Lords.

 That must be the Skyrim version of an abomination. It even has a name too: "Diamond Drag-Born". Omg.

I do use the hair mod that everybody is complaining about:P though I use only a few of the hairs it offers. Only the braids, actually. Most are too shiny and stylish and look ridiculous on my otherwise quite default-looking dragonborns. I love those hairs on my sims, but in Skyrim it's too out of place.

Take a look at this older vid of aMidianborn Armors Textures, as well as the follow-up on the consolidated pckg; Book of Silence. It improves the Vanilla armors quite a bit, and keeps them lore friendly:

Man, it'll be what, a couple years from now till we MIGHT hear something about the next Elder Scrolls?

I can't wait.

Can't see how that is going to be anything but a flop, but yeah it is going to make the wait longer. People are saying the beta wasn't so good.

ESO's not made by the same team. Why would that hinder another main TES title?

Perhaps for the same reason the DLC for Skyrim stopped at a time when ESO is gearing up for release? More than a few people think it's little more than a coincidence.

Why wouldn't it? Two games from the same franchise competing against each other, each one having to get money to get support such as patching, DLC and PR. There's a redundancy in supporting two things of the same make and even then, when Bethesda makes one of these games it puts another to rest for a while. Look at Fallout and TES, if there's a Fallout game, TES is put away, if there's a TES game fallout is put to rest. Besides, an MMO is a pretty big investment, big enough to interfere with other projects.

It's funny how people love to use generalized reasoning when they certainly never had any participation in decision-making and management of a game company.
