Umm... Faendal, up until the last couple of runs. I'm not proud of it. I still haven't tried Sven out. Faendal wasn't as awful for me as your experience, though, @Joy. He hung back, which is what I was looking for. He let me stealth kill pretty much everything...maybe he was just scared. Hehe.

Now, I just get Uthgerd or Jenassa to start.

I can only choose Sven, because we have the same name and thus share a brotherly connection that I cannot betray.

I usually still have him with me even when he's been painfully outleveled. My usual follower posse (Serana, Sero, etc) carry him. :S

No one, I rarely use followers. if I do it came from a mod and it is most likely a follower with more dialogue.

Same here. I have only ever used Serana cuz Laura Bailey yo - and the fact that she can't be killed.

The vanilla, non Serana cardboard cutout followers are much more entertaining when you get a whole fellowship of them via mods.

All with the same voice actor,

Mjoll the Lionness is another one that can't be killed, iirc. She can't even be sacrificed to Boethiah. I usually take her along if I don't have Conjuration up very high, and am rolling a squishy Mage.

Sero is my favorite. And Ghorbash the Iron Hand. Give that fellow a decent bow, and it's all over.

And Belrand and Eola. Can't forget about them. Nightblade/Spellsword, mmmpf.

Pure speculation on my part, but I think Mjoll might have been intended for a 'Destroy the Thieves Guild' scenario, given her essential status.

^ You're probably right. And gosh, we can't have Riften's protector dying. :)

@ Happy - I can see how Faendal would be useful for someone looking to stealth...Talos knows he'll never actively engage enemies on his own! :wizard:

I also like Belrand. Too bad without mods he still summons wolves at like 30th level.

I would have liked it you could have selected some of the Volkihar crew if you sided with the vampires. Fura talks a big game and that voice

Vingalmo would have been nice too. I wonder why they never put any high elf followers.

I agree.  Her protector status seems like it was meant for more, but became wasted potential, since we can do nothing to alter the situation in Riften. Mjoll is still my favorite vanilla follower in Skyrim, even if I do have to tune her out after a while.

Do not use them myself, but Kharjo is looking pretty good as a Tank follower in the LPSA series by Gopher. He seems to be somewhat quieter than most. Durak may be another Follower with potential.

And I was pleased to have Ingjard from the DG as a Steward.

I like Kharjo, but I seem to pick him up during his low points...where's he's just not all that effective. There must be some kind of sweet spot, as far as optimal time to have/recruit him, but I haven't figured out when that is. I've heard that both he and J'Zargo are good followers, but my experience has been that they run into battle, then end up hiding for the rest of the fight.

It is pretty awesome to have a Khajiit follower when you're rolling a Khajiit DB. Tails swaying everywhere, and noses sniffing everything. I wish they would have had a female Khajiit follower.

DB followers are probably great, if you're looking for someone with little dialogue. Durak is on par with generic Orc #27, but he's an Orc, so he's bound to be pretty awesome. Beleval seemed bugged (she kept disappearing - like literally vanishing). I also tried Ingjard as a Steward. She wouldn't shut up about Dawnguard, iirc. But I didn't try her as an actual follower. I see in the wiki that she has no max level (same with Durak and Celann). That could prove useful.

Wait...it just sunk in that you could use Celann as a follower. Image IPB

Just picked up a playthrough I had started a few months ago but hadn't progressed far in. Was still hanging around at Riverwood and had the quest to go meet Balgruuf. Decided to forgo all that and head south to Falkreath. Kinda go with the idea that my DB escaped straight from Helgen to the place. Rping a male Redguard who ran away due to some **** going on back home.

Planning to stick around for a bit and complete few quests. So far I've given the mead to the douchey Jarl (already had it in my inventory), retrieved the Priest's journal and completed Sinding's quest. I ended up killing him but didn't like that I ended up saying, "I did as you asked." to Hircine. I killed him because I perceived him to be a threat and not due to Hircine's request and it would have been nice to have had a dialogue option with either Hircine or Sinding to acknowledge that.

Anyway, went to do the Jarl's quest and clear out the bandit cave and stumbled onto a Forsworn encampment. Was not expecting that, lol. Killed most of them and then heard some singing, dragonwall and all that. Walk up to it and run into two lovely Hargravens resurrecting one of the Forsworn.

That didn't end well.

The AFT mod does help Followers, as it has an option to have them stay away a fair distance. Serana is vastly improved, but still manages to run into LOS anyway. But I know that you do not have access, so perhaps keeping your chosen one armed with a bow/ crossbow only may help.

J'Zargo simply chats too much for me (Gopher used J'Z as a Follower in the first LPS series). However, it was absolutely hilarious to discover that even a cat has limits on death by Friendly Fire, and J'Z quit after his last resurrection).

Who's your first follower: Sven or Faendal?

I always go with Sven. I tried Faendal and he sucks .  He stands back there with his bow and all I hear from him is "I cannot best you." Meanwhile Sven is always willing to get in the thick of the action. In short, Sven acts like a Nord.

Plus it's usually Faendal who asks me to pull that sleezeball "romantic" tactic.

Back when I used followers, my first was always Lydia.  So many adventures

Currently have Rayya as my companion. Absolute dual-wielding beast. She tore through three spriggans with the greatest of ease.

Chats too much? When I had him with me he barely said a thing. I was glad when I finally got an "ooooh, cave" comment out of him. :( I saw very funny quotes of him on the wiki, like when approaching the College, but in my game that cat refuses to talk!

My favorites are when they say "Something smells foul", or "By the twin moons!"

@AstusOz - I hear that. Rayya has some serious skills. A giant showed up at my Falkreath house, and she had it killed before I could get my blade unsheathed. I just stood there in awe.

That was so great! Lmao. I had seen the first video before, but the second really is awesome. All those ice spells at the same time. Now I want an army of J'zargos.:innocent:

Edit: just stumbled on this on youtube:

The guy is playing as J'zargo, and he's got the voice spot-on.:D Very entertaining.

J'zargo is the number one reason to join the College of Winterhold.
The pad is pretty epic.
The quest line is pretty good though a little on the short side.
