^ Whoa. It's either been a while since I've played a full game or you're using some cool looking mods. Specifically the DB's armor. And where is that? Windhelm?
That's vanilla vampire lord armor + Seranna's hood modded in. I'm in a Stormcloak controlled Solitude.

That's completely beside the point. My response was in relation to the whole 'trespassing' thing for Drelas, lol.Yrkoon wrote...

I would have knocked if it was possible, lol. He should have locked his door if he didn't want anyone wanting coming in, hmph.

Well that adds a very different feel to the game. I like it. Makes Skyrim seem like a bitter, cold and unforgiving place everywhere.

Would be cool to switch this on and off as time goes by in a longer playthrough, as seasons pass.
(Side note, I use the personalized music mod, you got no idea how atmospheric it is listening to this track while snow falls and everything is frozen over. Maaan.)

Yes, it does. Looks like a lot of work went into it. It's too bad the consoles can't use mods; some of them look really amazing.
I'm curious, for people who sided with the deposed Nords of Thirsk, did you agree to keep Bujold's secret about Hrothmund's decree against her leadership?

I did the first time, but felt pretty guilty about it, so I reloaded. She wasn't worth lying about it. That's an interesting quest line - all of the decisions about that are kind of awful.LobselVith8 wrote...

I really thought there would be some kind of consequence for going against Hrothmund's decree.

Are there any must have perks that I should go after or should avoid? Playing as a male redguard. One-handed, destruction + archer orientated in terms of combat. Lockpick is pretty high due to my obsession with picking all (legal!) locks.
Been playing a lot more RPesque this time around. Spent around half an hour reading some of the books in-game earlier. Loved the Refugee book and background on Mankar. I know most of these books have been around for ages but I'm just reading them now. ;P

I never take perks in Lockpick or Speech. Usually after about 40+ hours or so, I have both maxed, so perks are kind of pointless.AstusOz wrote...

If you're playing one-handed, take one-handed perks that augment your power. Same with Destruction and Archery. But be sure to add Sneak.
I'm not a huge fan of Destruction, as it kind of peters out once you get to Expert level. But if you're going to use it, you might as well put perks in Apprentice, Adept, etc. I would also augment your flavor of choice (flames, frost, etc.) I don't typically max those completely.
With one-handed, though, you'll want to make sure to get points in Armsman, to strengthen your attacks. And probably Fighting Stance. I always take Savage Strike, because I enjoy the decapitations (hehe).
I'd highly recommend putting perks into Sneak; especially if you're rolling a (part-time) archer. Definitely take Deadly Aim, so your sneak attack with bows do triple damage. Assassin's Blade, if you plan to use daggers (not sure if that perk applies to regular one-handers). If nothing else, Backstab gives you 6x damage, so that might be enough.
I always roll super sneaky Archer, so if you're looking for something a little more exuberant, perhaps others could offer their take.

You can safely ignore Hack and Slash, Bone Breaker and Bladesman. If you duel wield you'll obviously want Dual Flurry and Dual Savagery. Combined with a certain shout you'll put out an insane amount of DPS.AstusOz wrote...

For destruction, you should take Rune Master, Dual Casting and Impact. Aspect of Terror, from the illuson tree, adds ten points of damage to most fire spells due to a bug.
With archery, stick to the left side of the tree and ignore Bullseye. It's not worth it.
You might be interested in using bound weapons from conjuration. They're still viable at high levels if you use enchanting and the bound bow is one of the best bows in the game. Pluss they're weightless, can banish any summon, turn any reanimated undead, soul trap and never run out of charges.
The mechant perk from speechcraft can make training skills a lot easier. Several trainers are also merchants and selling them loot or items you've enchanted will get most of your money back.

Depends on the character. If I'm playing one of those value honor types, then I don't keep her secret. if I'm what the D&D canon describes as chaotic, then I do.

Since the last couple of patches, the top Archery pick is kinda bugged, so avoiding it is good advice. And I normally only take the base perks in Heavy or Light armors; same for 1-H and 2-H, plus the ones right above aiding Power attacks. This is done to keep the battles more interesting; allowing myself fewer one shots unless there were better tactics or I got lucky.
Quiet Casting in Illusion also helps Shouts, and Respite in Restoration is a standard pick to help lower potion usage. And Light Foot in Sneak is a must.

Don't put a single point into lock picking. The only factor that trully determines your lock picking skill is the player skill and not the player character skill.
Now let's look at your skills.
_____________________________________________________________________________
1 hand:
What kind of fighter are you? Blade, axe or blunt?
Weapon and Shield
Dual Wield
Weapon and Spell
Weapon and Nothing
Perks: Armsman (5/5), Weapon of choice (3/3)
_____________________________________________________________________________
Destruction:
Pick either destruction or archery until you reach a higher level.
The only useless perk is intense flames. Well it's not useless, but an enemy running away from you is probably not a disirable outcome.
Spend: Dual Casting, Impact, Novice, Adept , then spend points into fire, ice and lightning (depending on which elements you use). If you wish to go further then expert and master are useful should you wish to specialise as a destructive mage (they halve the coast of related spells).
Perks: All except intense flames (maybe rune master?)
_____________________________________________________________________________
Archery:
Until you reach a higher level, your best bet is to choose between archery or destruction.
Archery is actually more damaging than destruction, but doesn't have the area of effect that destructive spells have.
Overdraw (5/5)
_____________________________________________________________________________
Armor: (You can get the maximum armor rating around 500-600 with light armor)
Enchanting: Enchanter (5/5), Insightful, Corpus and Extra effect
Smithing: Steel, Elven, Arcane. If you continue to Dragon, you'll be able to use very powerful weapons
Light: Agile Defender (5/5), Custom Fit
_____________________________________________________________________________
Sneak:
Backstab, deadly aim and backstab will be your best friend!
Also place at least 3 points into stealth. The rest is up to you. There are some useful perks in this tree.
As for light foot and silent roll.
If you like combat rolls then silent rolls are nice.
If you keep walking on traps then light foot is a life saver.
I don't know about silence and shadow warrior. Never used those.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Restoration:
Unlock the avoid death perk. It's very useful. When you lose all your health, your health will be restored. This ability works once a day.
Also unlock the respite perk. This will enable you to restore stamina when you use healing spells.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Not happy with this build?
There are many really good builds you can come up with.
Here is a nice website where you can plan your builds.
If you're using an overhaul mod, I can't help you.

No perks in lockpick, none, zero (totally meaningless), and on the Archery tree I run up the left side maxing Overdraw, Eagle Eye and Steady Hand (2) and stop there. I simply don't think you need anything else using it as a secondary skill. Those three maxed are extremely powerful.
Speech is a tough-y, because if you take the tree to max, barter does become significantly enhanced. That's more a personal choice in how you play the game. I normally do so at the cost of just about everything else, because I 'm the rare magic user. If you're using magic, you probably with have to forego.

It would have been nice if it changed dynamically. In the winter in-game seasons, have everywhere looking like that, but in the spring/summer ones have it look vanilla but with the more northern holds still covered in snow and ice.
Next step for the mod author methinks, if possible anyway,

Bethesda wanted to do that actually, it was showcased along with the vampire lord when they were showing potential DLC stuff. Never happened, probably too much time need to be put into it. If an author does it, I can't see it being anything more than a heavily scripted mod and a resource hog at that. If it does happen, I hope it doesn't end up there.
