So, I've been putting off leveling up. So, I'm still at Lv. 1 but will get a ton of points when I finally decide to bite the bullet.

Are there any must have perks that I should go after or should avoid? Playing as a male redguard. One-handed, destruction + archer orientated in terms of combat. Lockpick is pretty high due to my obsession with picking all (legal!) locks.

Been playing a lot more RPesque this time around. Spent around half an hour reading some of the books in-game earlier. Loved the Refugee book and background on Mankar. I know most of these books have been around for ages but I'm just reading them now. ;P

DId you play Oblivion by any chance?  That was a popular tactic, stay at low level because the crappy system could make you weaker by leveling.  Check out this cool resource http://theskyrimblog.ning.com/

That's gorgeous. For my money that's what Skyrim should have looked like instead of the bland brown tundra.

It would have been nice if it changed dynamically. In the winter in-game seasons, have everywhere looking like that, but in the spring/summer ones have it look vanilla but with the more northern holds still covered in snow and ice.

Next step for the mod author methinks, if possible anyway,

i dont usually say this, let alone in person even.but thank you for sharing these.the pics are indeed beautiful

Thanks for all the tips!

I'm avoiding Illusion and Conjuration trees due to general Redguard aversion for them. Although Conjuration in terms of weapons could be somewhat justified I guess. I ended up falling back into archery as a force of habit because I like picking enemies off from a distance, even if it wasn't the initial plan for my character. I primarily dual wield a blade and a destruction spell although I'll probably go into two blades eventually.

I've been bartering a lot. I basically loot a lot of the enemies I defeat and sell all their items when I can. I use Rayya as a packhorse if I get over encumbered. Will avoid the Lockpicking tree as per most of your advice.

Thanks for that tree Abraham! It helped me mentally sort out everything.
I did play Oblivion, blaidfiste. Once spent ages just casting "Open Lock" on a door in an Inn. Ended up levelling up several times. It was until I got into a fight that I realised how much of a mistake I had made, lol.

Once again, thanks all. Makes things a lot clearer.

Eh, you're not really missing much. Besides the unofficial bug fixes the majority of the mods are forgettable.

I agree with your second statement there.    It's the nature of any massive  modding community to produce mountains and mountains of forgettable mods that  a player has to dig through to find  the memorable one  -  the so-called Diamond in the rough.

But your first statement  (from my personal experience) is false.  Even if only 1 in every 10,000 mods is   memorable.  You're still  missing a major major MAJOR part of the true Skyrim experience by not having access to any of those rare *gems* in the vault.  Even one of the simple mods, like   "Richer-merchants", or "better looking Lydia"  can breathe new life on in a stale game and can extend replayability.  But then you've got the ENB mods,  and the various companion tweak mods that can flat out  produce a different  experience... as if you're playing a   brand new game.

I shudder at the thought of not having mods.  I'd have probably  stopped playing Skyrim a year or two ago  if it wasn't for mods.

Nope; loved Vanilla Skyrim even if it wasn't perfect. And once I started using mods, it made the experience happen again. When I first saw the E3 gameplay vids, I was enthralled; same occurred again after watching vids of Climates of Tamriel.

Falling in love all over again; lucky, lucky me!

I love the vanilla Skyrim game; I have nearly 2000 hours sunk into it. I guess I just view it as being the way Bethesda intended the game to be, and I'm perfectly happy with it.

It probably helps that I have a great tv, that makes everything look better (even non-HD channels, which would be abysmal otherwise).

Also, a lot of the mods I've seen have absolutely turned me off. Lady GagMe? Posted Image

Maybe I'll change my mind, once we get a gaming pc. In the meantime, I'm perfectly content.

Yeah some mods are crap, and mods like those are what's prominent on the nexus, but its just a fact one has to deal with. The good mods are ten times better than any of that garbage and they offer more than those things could ever offer.

Mods can be divided into a few schools:

Crap
Megacrap
Useful
Very Useful
Perverted

Has anyone ever tried the Tropical Skyrim mod before? I'm thinking of playing Skyrim again, but I don't think I'll last very long unless there's some big changes to break up the repetition.

Roll a mage w/ Apocalypse Spell Package and afterward you will throw your 360 out the window.

I "made do" for years Happy, then I built a gaming rig and got into modding. Yeah vanilla Skyrim is fun, but modded Skyrim can be jawdroppingly beautiful, especially on resolutions of 1920x1200 and greater. Thinking about getting a 4k display later next year; imagine Skyrim (and other good looking games) on that. :D

You know, I'm just lazy. If I could just give someone the money, and let them build, debug, and hook up one for me, I'd be golden. But alas, I used to be a pc gamer, many moons ago, and got tired of dealing with conflicts, system requirements, etc.

I must be getting old; I like to just turn something on, and have it work. :)

I do enjoy seeing scenery screenshots, though. I will admire from afar for now.

Finally entered Whiterun. It was a pretty long journey though! Started off in Falkreath, became Thane and hung around for a bit before moving northwards to Morthal. Became Thane in Morthal and helped them with their vampire problem before moving further north to Solitude. Did a few quests, including the first Potema one and the one where we get to meet an old friend before deciding to move on when I got the quest to bring Torygg's horn to the Talos Shrine. After that I moved east towards Dawnstar, helped them with their nightmare problems and mined for a bit, took on a few quests. I decided to head off to Whiterun after completing one of those quests (the void salts, the cave was near Morthal).

This of course includes various forts and the like in between. Always make sure to get some sleep at night (or later in the day for a longer time if I wind up in a combat zone for too long), haha.
Before making it to Whiterun, I stumbled upon Rorikstead. Something is definitely odd about that town. Especially considering Rorik's bedfellow and his response to the 'secret' question about the crops and the like. It was an innocent question but his response is just like, "Secret? What secret!? Why would we have a secret!?"

Also, has Dawnguard so vampires are more obvious? The mage from the Solitude court and that duo at the mill near Falkreath had the demonic eyes going on. Alva looked normal though so it's not for all.

I'm fairly happy with vanilla as well. There are some interesting mods out there, but I'm entertained with original recipe Skyrim.

The "true" Skyrim experience is the one Bethesda half hazardly developed and sold to us. Anything else is just fluff that the developers hope will keep people interested in buying their game.

Which would be the "true" Skyrim experience mentioned above.

I couldn't believe what I had been missing out on with mods. And I was 100% content with vanilla Skyrim on my 360. Only on an impulse did I purchase it off Steam for a goof. Completely changed my gaming experience.

Oh, and if I can get Skyrim running on my PC with any number of mods I want...ANYONE can. Believe me. It is, and was, so easy, I head-desked until I had a headache for not doing it sooner. And yes, I still use my controller, since Bethesda actually supports it out of the box...You hear that Bioware?

Shopping for mods has become a secondary pastime to actually playing. I simply don't understand how anyone could say "all mods suck" and not be even mildly delighted by giving an already amazing game a personalized overhaul...but to each their own.

Sure, "most" are forgettable, but out of 15 thousand or more mods in just two years, that leaves a lot of room for some real gems.

No, that's the  "standard" skyrim experience.    Game + Mods is the *true*  experience.     And If I had more time   tonight  I'd search and link us to some of the countless  interviews  with Todd Howard where he flat out says that that  fan mods are one of the Pillars of the elder scrolls franchise.

But for now, how about some  actual physical evidence?    In January of 2012, the Creation Kit was released.  Shortly thereafter,  modders  began   putting out House building mods.  Then later.... much later, Bethesda released  Hearthfire.  This was no coincidence.  Bethesda's mindset was that Modders were on to something... something very much True to the company's own vision of the game.

But all of this is peripheral.  Bethesda's worlds are meant to be modded.    The two concepts: Game + Mods, have always    been  what the ES games are.
