Character showoff tiem plz. I need inspiration for another run.
I've got a bunch of characters, but the three I'm most fond of...
Sol (Nord Witchhunter esque character. Primary skills one handed, light armour, destruction, conjuration and archery. Mostly good choices taken, flipped off most of the Daedra, did Dawnguard on the Dawnguard side, MQ, College of Winterhold, Thieves' Guild and is probaby my 'main' seeing as I've by far completed the most quests as him. Also married Serana with the power of mods. Huehuehueh.)

Genevieve (Breton Sorcerer type character, focuses on destruction, conjuration and alchemy mostly. Kind of shady person. Did pretty much all of the Daedric quests, College, Dark Brotherhood, Dawnguard on the Vampire side (but later cured) and quite a few random things, etc.)
http://cloud-2.steam...2C93FC1D96A99A/
And then there's Aithne. (Wood Elf Ranger-type character who's a complete savage and does everything evil essentially. Also a werebear. Goes crazy with that ring of Namira and eats all the doods. My homicidal maniac character everybody has.)

I haven't got hard details since we know little about some Hammerfell areas and the like but my character isn't quite that old. Would have been 10 around the time the WGC was signed and lived with his family in Elinhir. That's how I reconciled him winding up in Falkreath since they might have had some interaction.LobselVith8 wrote...
Interesting. Is your Redguard a character who fought in the Great War? Did the WGC play a role in his decision to head to Skyrim?
Now, I don't know if the area saw any fighting but it may have considering its proximity to the Cyrodil border but it seems to be nestled between two mountain ranges and is close to Skyrim. Father was Imperial Legion, later tried for 'treason' considering he went to make sure his family was safe after the WGC was signed leading to my DB having an inherent dislike of the Imperial Legion as well as the Thalmor.

Got to my first ugh moment in my current playthrough! Had to stop playing because of it. Playing through The Companions questline and was given the 'choice' of being bestowed the gift. Now, if only it was a choice instead of being a mechanism that holds the rest of the questline hostage.
Yeah, I'm gunning for the Werewolf perk achievement today, it's really cringeworthy. Not to mention as a lvl 65 munchkin I get treated as some scrub and they use me to fetch things. Too bad they are flagged essential.
The factions are so bad in this game. I loved the medieval mafia feel of the first part of the Thieves guild, the rest was meh, and the Brotherhood is fun as ever, but the mages and the fighters, so dumb. Not to mention you only have to cast like 5 spells during the mages' questline. And the evil elf dude turns out to be evil!

After getting bombarded by Seeker spells, the hit effect got on me permanently, so it's ****ed up. Even reinstalling did nothing.
Edit: found it now.

Unfortunately, the introduction is written as though your protagonist starts it early on, and the dialogue doesn't accommodate a more renown and higher level character becoming a member. It's something that came to mind since I'm planning it with my Redoran. It'll be nice to see Kodlak again, for the first time.

The Thalmor are antagonists who want to unmake reality. It's not supposed to shock you that Ancano is an antagonist, and that he tries to Undo Mundus with the Eye.
As for the storyline, I thought the College narrative was weak until I played as a pure mage, which changed my opinion on the quest line for me, and the Ritual Spell quests you get when you've mastered the different spell schools helped immerse me in the story. I'm still liking it now with my Telvanni. And I enjoyed Arniel's Endeavors.

Well yes, Whiterun has a very tutorial-esque feel to it, too bad this is an open world game.
Some things only make sense in this game if you are approaching it with specific conditions, that's why I find the main questline even more boring than Oblivion's. If I'd do that only with no distractions, I guess it would take more than a few hours and actually be engaging.
The first time I met Alduin, I slapped him back to Sovngarde with my Elemental Fury Dual Wield Powerattack Backhand™ so quick I didn't realize this was supposed to be some kind of a bossfight.
And doing another completionist run with all the new OP stuff from the DLCs didn't help this time either.

I feel the same way, and try to make the Ritual Spells part of my Archmage repertoire. If you go through it with those as your goal, and take your time with doing the college main quests (space them out appropriately), it does make it seem like you actually earned the title.LobselVith8 wrote...

Same with the Thieves Guild. If I'm rolling a thief (which, I guess I always do), I plan it so that I've restored the TG to its former glory, before finishing things up with Nocturnal. At least with that quest line, you have to do enough Delvin/Vex jobs and special jobs to actually earn the title of Guildmaster.
I kinda wish they had made the same type of requirement for the mage quest line.

The game is what you make of it. You made it a cakewalk for yourself ... congratulations.

It's bad design if the only challenge is what you make for yourself. Piranha Bytes knew how it was done. The vanilla game is always a cakewalk, it has some really serious balance issues. The start is a bit rocky, then the difficulty curve flatlines real quick. Thank god for mods though, but that praise doesn't go to Bethesda.
I don't play Skyrim for challenge, but the lack of it hurts the immersion I'm fond of the TES games.

I do exactly that with my mage protagonist.

I think it would've helped. As it is, I pretty much do what you just outlined - space out the main College quests with side quests for the College, from the Ritual Spells to the miscellaneous tasks given to you by the instructors, and also by taking on quests as I come across them. Retrieving Daedric artifacts, becoming a noble of House Telvanni, mastering Dunmeri and local schools of magic, reconstructing the Gauldur Amulet, retrieving the magical artifacts of (possibly the first) human mage Ahzidal - it's helping me feel like I'm earning the right to be the new Archmage.

In my last few runs, I started going after the Gauldur Amulet earlier on than in previous runs. For a low-level character, it really helps having those extra points in magicka/health/stamina. In fact, I typically wear that silly thing up until I get St. Jiub's locket, along with the Diadem of the Savant (or Aetherial crown).
Did Bethesda ever patch that broken Restoration Ritual Spell?

Umm, Bethesda has a history of offering tools for modders to remake their games (unlike certain companies that shall go nameless) and Todd Howard has said on multiple occasions than fan mods are part of the Elder Scrolls experience. So, yes, praise does go to Bethesda.
The game is as challenging as you make it. If you play on PC, then there are more tools to make the game challenging than I can keep track of. The game is only a cakewalk because you allowed it to be.

They won't get any praise from me for growing complacent and letting the fans do the work. They can release a buggy mess of a game because they dominate the sandbox RPG market, but it wasn't this mentality which got them there. They could do better.

I played ca. 700 hrs before modding, and apparently avoided this mess you speak of now. And like with NWN1, where the best part was not the OC, but did included Clients and a Toolset that allowed the Players to tailor their experience, the credit there does fall to Bioware. Now it is Bethesda that gets the Gold.

You have to jump through hoops to keep the game challenging, because Skyrim's not even a game, because a game has rules that create a repeatable and expected outcome to various user input.
Skyrim is a Rube Goldberg machine whose mechanisms occasionally work in conjunction to perform a game-like task. You click your mouse, and the technological equivalent of a hastily-fastened pully system whirrs and whines, causing your character to swing his sword. If an enemy happens to be neaby, then a digital baseball glove hurls a digital ping pong ball into a digital fish bowl, which is then tipped over and poured onto a digital roulette table. Dozens of metaphorical spins later, you have the outcome of a single mouse click which, statistically speaking, probably resulted with your character being flung hundreds of feet into the air.

^ Oh yeah, definitely. I've always had a goal of getting Destruction level mastery before starting the mage college quest line, just to see if I can rub J'Zargo's nose in it. I haven't quite followed it through yet, but I will.

Yes, it's useful early on. I'm aiming for the Aetherial Crown myself.

If you mean the Guardian Circle book that doesn't show, you need to click on the Augur multiple times during the last conversation (after you survive the beatdown) for it to show in Collette's inventory.

Skyrim's biggest weakness (Oblivion's, too) is that there is no sense of balance. You're either one shorting everything or getting one shot by something.

As Joy kinda said, if one plays the game that way, then that is what you got. In my game, there is a chance to see One Shots on both sides, but it is not the norm. If one takes all the Perks in 1-H, 2-H, then expect to see more of them; same with Enchanting and possibly Alchemy.
Bethesda gave us the resources to balance our own play; not their fault if some choose to place weights on one end of the scales.

It's not my job to balance the game. It's Bathesda's job.

But Bathesda games, like all games, have flaws. One of Bathesda's is balance.
Just because your opinions only exist in extremes doesn't mean everyone else's does.
